Mapleleaf listend to Sundust intently as he spoke his piece, though he didn't directly answer the question she had asked him. Any chance she was pregnant? Well, that came as a shock to the young she-cat. Certainly something I didn't expect... Nevertheless, the calico tabby situated her paws next to each other once again and tilted her head in thought. It perhaps was a possibility... Thunderblaze and her had talked about having kits before.
"Perhaps. Thunderblaze and I were in Sunkissed Creek when we spoke about having kits one day, I suppose that day is in the near future," Mapleleaf looked at her large belly once again and chuckled. "Do you think I am expecting?"
If this was the case, she would have to speak to a queen about adopting them... Mapleleaf was young and still had a lot of energy to give into ThunderClan, she couldn't spend six moons in the nursery. It would drive her crazy, and she knew that if she was in the nursery, she would be exposing her kits to anger outbursts which were in no way good for any kit to witness or be a victim to.
|
Sundust nodded as the molly explained the situation.
“The symptoms certainly seem to match up.” Her reaction, thankfully, didn’t seem negative, just surprised.
“It seems we have many kits on the way; there’s been a startling amount of new queens over the past moon, he remarked. He kept his ever-neutral facial expression as he spoke.
And now here’s another one.. Again he was reminded of the fact that he really needed to speak to Sparrowstar about volume of kits that would soon be coming.
“As long as there are no complications or abnormalities, you shouldn’t have need to visit me very often. If you find yourself to be severely uncomfortable or in a lot of pain, then please do speak with me or Rosepaw. Are there any questions that you might have?

Sundust flicked an ear at the molly’s response.
“That does seem to line up with your suspicions. Congratulations!” Despite his concern about the upcoming leaf-bare, it was always exciting when new kits were on the way.
“You can go speak with Sparrowstar about moving to the nursery after we’ve wrapped up here. Do you have any questions for me in the mean time?”

She wasn't used to apologies; no one seemed to know what those were nowadays, or if they did, they apologized too much, too often, for things that were insignificant. There seemed to be no in-between.
She responded merely with a tired shrug, unsure of what to say - then winced as whatever Sundust held was pressed into the wound. "Ow."
The silence was awkward and she was almost glad he chose to break it - until she actually heard what he was saying. Both ears flipped back and she glanced away. "I don't need someone to take care of me. I can handle myself just fine."
"Friends" was a lose term. Cinderpaw was dead, never coming back; she'd thought Softpaw counted, but the she-cat had been gone so long, Bumblebreak wasn't sure if that still stood; Asterdance was a vague "maybe", if at all; and unless "friends" also meant "arrogant fish-faces who Bumblebreak really wanted to stomp into the dirt and then dunk in the river twenty times for good measure", then she doubted Violetfreckle made the cut.
She gave herself a mental shake, searching for a distraction from the train of thoughts, and turned to sniff at what he was doing. "What are you using? What's that for?"
|
Sundust simply released a quiet sigh at Bumblebreak’s defensive response. He supposed there was no helping a cat who wouldn’t let themselves be helped. He let the silence lapse again, wanting to avoid raising any more conflict for the time being, and was relieved when Bumblebreak switched to a new topic.
“It’s marigold,” the medicine cat began explaining,
“It’s used to treat infections.” He finished off with the marigold and plastered on a thick layer of cobwebs.
“Try and keep these cobwebs clean and dry for the next day or two. If the wound starts acting up again then come see me or Rosepaw; is there anything else you need me to take a look at while your here?” Sundust had only noticed the rat bites, but he liked to double-check to make sure there wasn’t anything he missed.

Petalbee spoke somewhat quickly the confusion evident in her tone.

[ my apologies! ]
Sundust sat, curling his fluffy tail over his paws as Petalbee explained her symptoms.
“I see. Is there perhaps any chance you could be expecting kits?” That line was becoming more and more familiar to the medicine cat these days. That would be, what, his fourth queen in the past moon? For a brief moment the absurd idea of there being an illness that just happened to have identical symptoms crossed his mind, but he quickly discarded the idea. That would be a bee-brained and rather far-fetched idea if he were being perfectly honest.

"Tangle?"
She repeated after him, lowering her face in thought. What a stranger expression. Tangle. She hadn't gotten into a tangle. She protected Ashy from a big bully!! That wasn't a 'tangle'. Vixenkit lifted her head back up, ready to correct the silly meddie cat when he interrupted her before she could even speak! Oh!
"Blood...?"
Once again she dapped her eye with her paw, quickly retracting when, of course, it hurt. That wasn't nice!! She glared at her bloody paw, displeased with this whole situation.
"I don't like red blood."
She decided as she set her paw down. The spotted kitten was likely pulling all sorts of strange faces and expressions when Sundust began to clean her booboo's, much to her displeasure. That hurt too! Or more like stung, but still!! Her first instinct being to try and pull her head away, which obviously didn't help much.
|
Sundust’s ears flicked with amusement as the kit began to start up typical kit shenanigans.
“I’m not a big fan of blood either,” he mewed, whiskers twitching. With the wounds cleaned up a little, he was able to come to the conclusion that the wounds on top of Vixenkit’s head were shallow enough that they should be fine without marigold. The one by her eye wasn’t super terrible either, but he didn’t want to risk her getting an infection that close to her eye.
He continued treating the wound, his catbrows furrowing as she began to pull away.
“Can you please try and sit still? I can’t make you feel better if your wiggling around.”

Mapleleaf took great care to prevent Violetpaw from being poked with sticks and leaves while she made the trek to ThunderClan's camp. The fox was unexpected to see during the badger search patrol, but it was still dangerous. Violetpaw was barely clinging onto life. She didn't need a medicine cat to tell her that.
"Sundust!" she called, rather tired and desperate. "I-it's Violetpaw, she's injured!"
The calico tabby didn't typically sound so frantic, but this was about Violetpaw. Her niece. Her kin. She couldn't allow herself and Thunderblaze to lose any more family. Robinflight and Snowcloud (and Snowpaw) were enough.

Sundust’s ears flattened with alarm as he caught sight of Violetpaw.
“Rosepaw, I need an extra set of paws please!” He hurried to the her storage, collecting marigold and cobwebs.
“Can you start treating the wound by her throat while I examine her tail?”
It was clear that most of the tail was now missing, but what was still there was bleeding profusely. He shoved his panic to the back of his brain, eyes narrowing with concentration as he thought through his next steps. The bleeding needed to be stopped, but before that he had to apply marigold. He took a few leaves and began to chew them into a paste, then apply them to the tail, followed by a quick plastering of cobwebs.

[hello! for future reference please refer to the medicine den guidelines and wait for me to accept your healing request before posting in the medicine den]
Sundust’s ears flicked up as Streamtail padded in and he mewed a quick,
“Hello,” as he padded over. It seemed it was just a thorn - that was good. Sometimes the simple injuries were a nice change from the constant infections he seemed to be dealing with. The medicine cat leaned down to inspect the thorn
It was indeed buried deep, but shouldn’t be
too tricky to get out.
”Try your best to keep your paw still; this may hurt a bit.” Carefully Sundust took the thorn between his teeth, and gave it a quick, firm tug. There was more resistance than he expected, but he managed to remove it.
“Go let the water from the medicine den’s stream run over it, any bleeding should stop shortly. Come back and see me or Rosepaw if you notice any redness or swelling where the thorn was.”
