Sootfur turned his gaze abruptly away from her mate, toward Sparrowstar. The leader had just announced something... stunning.
"Me... a mentor?" He then glanced at Flameheart, as to confirm that he hadn't dreamt his name being called out loud by the Thunderclan leader. I've just become a warrior, and.. I already have an apprentice? It felt so unbelievable, but since everyone was staring at him waiting for him to spet up... It's true!
His former mentor congratulated briefly with him, and finally Sootfur regained consciousness on what was happening around him. "Thank you, Darkpetal." He replied a bit uncertain, but still happily.
The gray tabby then made his way among his clanmates and found his place in front of the crow. Quietkit, no, Quietpaw was waiting for him with an eager look.
Sootfur took a deep breath and puffed out his chest, hoping to get a good first impression for his first apprentice. Emotion swelled inside him, and he couldn't wait to meet the cat he would be training with for the next few moons.
"Hi, Quietpaw. I am Sootfur, and I'm glad to take you as my apprentice." His grey-blue eyes flicked for a moment to Sparrowstar's, who was staring at the two new apprentices greeting their mentors. I hope I'm doing this alright.
"I'll do my best to help you become the best warrior you can be." He promised solemnly, before craning his neck to touch noses with the quiet apprentice.

Suddenly panicking slightly, though she hid it, she glanced at her brother then back at Sootfur, hoping that her new mentor wouldn’t thinks he was being rude for not speaking or answering him.
Giving Sootfur a slightly timid smile, she made the usual gesture she made when telling others she couldn’t speak. She dipped her head slightly and raised a paw to gesture to her mouth and shook her head a slightly, hoping that he would understand what it meant. She wished that she didn’t have to do this in front of everyone, but it couldn’t be helped and her fur grew hot in embarrassment. If there was ever a time she wished she could just disappear, it was now.
(My poor anxious child. Sootfur can go ahead and mistake her for just not wanting to talk to him if he wants. )

Rainpaw
Rainpaw watched proudly as Quietpaw was called up to the Thunderwillow, his gaze shined proudly on his sister. A little upset about his parents' lack of appearance, but he'd give them an earful later. After all, this was Quietpaw's moment, not theirs. When Sootfur came to introduce himself to the small she-cat, the young tom padded forward, not many cats knew about Quietpaw's... situation.
"Congratulations," he started off with a nod in Quietpaw's direction then turned to look at his sister's mentor.
"Sootfur. Not many cats know this, but Quietpaw is unable to talk. I know a few signs I could teach you, but Butterflyblaze is your best bet. I want her to have the best education possible, so do me a favor and don't fail her, will you? Our parents failed her once, I don't want anyone to fail her again."
The way it came out made it sound a tad aggressive, but Rainpaw didn't care. He was looking out for his sister, no one could blame him for that. After all, he seemed to be the only one in the family aside from Flameheart to be out here with them and watch the ceremony.
Flameheart
After Sootfur was called up by Sparrowstar to be a mentor, pride surged through her large body. Her mate was becoming a mentor! And he was mentoring Quietpaw! Quietpaw, who was Quietkit back when she and Rainpaw had rescued her, looked much healthier.
"Go on," she purred and lightly nuzzled her mate forward before watching the pair meet for the first time.
"Touch her nose with yours." she mouthed in the gray tabby's direction.
He'll be a great mentor, I'm sure of it.
