Hawkbite walked through the camp, the kit hanging from his jaws. He wasn't going to kill this kitten, no. He'd take it to the Twolegplace. The humans seemed to like taking cats, so he'd offer a kit in place of a potential clanmate. Unfortunately, his sour attitude might've radiated in the direction of Mistlewhisker because before he could make it out of the camp, her presence was very noticeable.

So, in a simple statement that was muffled through fur, Hawkbite would state his business to the deputy. "Taking kit to Twolegs, be back later." He didn't care if any of his other clanmates noticed or heard, it wasn't like this was a private mission. He'd just prefer if he went alone.

Little missed the watchful eye of the ShadowClan Deputy, so when Hawkbite emerged from the Leader's den with a scrap of fur in his mouth and a glare in his eyes, she was swift to join him as he left camp. Frustration radiated off his pelt, and if his short explanation was any indication... "She didn't turn the child away, did she?" She meowed, looking over her shoulder at the Leader's den. Dawnstar of course had the right to refuse anyone from their clan, but a kit? Newleaf was here, and prey had emerged from their hiding places. It wasn't a matter of not enough food, though it could be due to not wanting to strain Nightshiver more than she already was.

Mistlewhisker padded along her mate as he made his way to the Twolegplace, lost in thought. She tried not to look too hard at the kitten, lest her ridiculous bleeding heart twinge at the sight of something so small and fragile, something with so much potential, out in the wild. But the cold, seasoned warrior that Mistlewhisker was knew that this was simply the way of things, and it was not up to her nor Hawkbite to question it.

[*rubbing my hands together like an evil fly*]

Hawkbite padded quietly. He almost didn't want to answer the deputy's question, feeling as though it was an obvious answer. Mistlewhisker typically wasn't one to ask such things, but it wasn't his place to question. He tried not to offend her and feared being sarcastic would cause a quarrel he didn't want.

"She did."

The scrap of fur was quiet, which made it easier for him to move through the territory. Even with Mistlewhisker at his side, he didn't slow. He wanted to get this over with. He could feel the corners of his eyes stinging more with each step. The Commander had this kitten for maybe two hours and already, the scrap of fluff was tearing a hole at his heart. He didn't realize how badly he wanted this. How badly he ached for a full family. How badly he ached to fill a space in his heart he only thought a kit would.

Each step was quicker and quicker, hiding his face from the dark feline beside him. His claws were sinking into the ground, flicking up chunks of dirt with each step. She'd consistently seen him break down. Not today. He couldn't... not today.

Maybe.

Mistlewhisker kept pace with the Commander, their silence tense and brittle. Hawkbite grew angrier with each step, his claws tearing up dirt and moss and flinging it behind him. She let him stew until the Twoleg dens peered out behind the trees. Her one-eyed gaze slid to the kitten, its russet fur stark against Hawkbite's brown and white muzzle.

She paused at the edge of the gardens, the outskirts territory enveloping them unfamiliar and daunting. She watched the canopy idly, waiting for Hawkbite to drop the kit off and head back.

[I figure once he starts complaining and she isn't receptive we can get into it >:3]

Hawkbite made quick work of the mission. He'd scale the fence, tap the door a few times and scatter the moment he heard footsteps. However, the Commander was caught in the tree above the fence, watching as the twolegs scooped up the amber kitten and swoon over it.

Then, they were gone.
Gone forever.

His claws sank into the bark, releasing some tension he felt in his muscles. He stared longingly at the door for a moment longer before he'd look away. The gaze was blank, staring down at Mistlewhisker. Then, they were intense.

Hawkbite leapt down, avoiding Mistlewhisker's gaze as he stood for a moment contemplating his next choice of words. He could've kept his mouth shut. He could've moved on from the situation, but instead, he spoke. "Dawnstar was cruel for that one. Sending away a kit like that. Even telling me to put it down if I needed to. What monster would do that? I guess that's why she was always rumored as such," his voice was fairly low. A subtle growl lined it. However, he never met Mistlewhisker's gaze. Honestly, he momentarily forgot she took Dawnstar as a mate. "I would've lost my rank if she demanded that of me. I won't do it."

"Let's go back so she knows it's done," he spoke simply. His tail lashed behind him.
