back at it again at krispy kreme [priv.]
round 2, the boys are back in town
@ Beau
@ ghostwriter
and now here they go out of town
Come to think of it ... Firesweep kept finding himself itching to move. Maybe it was the lack of a deputy channeling an obvious yet repressed nervousness in the clan, or the pecking thought that he was losing too much vigor, yielding to the cold and subsequent reluctance to expend energy ( and oh-so precious heat ). Either way, his legs are too long and his fur too thick for him not to be useful at a time like this.
And some capable fellas are joining him whether they wanted to or not. He'd do them a favor and make this trip as entertaining as possible.
Firesweep peeks into the warrior's den - the tip of his tail tapping in consideration.
"Eelsting and ... Larkstripe! I know you're in there. How 'bout a hunt?" Huh, what a funny sense of deja vu.

(THE TITLE OMG)
Larkstripe emerged, his fiery pelt bristled against the cold, sea-green eyes narrowed as if he were wincing in response to the brisk air.
“I would...love nothing more...than to warm up...by any means necessary...” the eloquent young warrior stated, whiskers trembling. His slick pelt and slender build offered him little to no protection against the frigid wind, and it was obvious that he had seen better days.
He shuddered fervently and cast a particularly sour glare at the gray sky, as if cursing it for their current circumstances.

[ @jimothy @ghostwriter I’m crying at the title ]
Making his way downtown- that was what Eelsting needed to do. He had no idea what a ‘downtown’ is, but that was where he needed to go. That or into the territory, whichever happened first.
Ah, so it was the territory! That suited Eel fine and the smoky tom bolted out of the den into the cold, immediately fluffing up his fur against the surprising temperature difference. Perhaps it shouldn’t have been to surprising since it was leafbare, but his body didn’t know logic! It knew only the warm nest and the cold air.
“Let’s go!”
Larkstripe’s voice trembled to Eelsting’s ears like a dying elder and the warrior tsked his companion. That wouldn’t do at all! Lark needed to put some pep in his step!
“Cmon, Larky! You gotta warm yourself up from the inside out- you gotta get excited!”
To demonstrate, Eelsting set himself up like he was about to go to battle and subsequently started bouncing up and down wildly. Whether he’d gotten too much or too little sleep, something was making the blood pump faster to Eel’s head and the warrior was about as hyper as a kit on catnip. This was going to be fun.

Larkstripe flattened his ears against the cold, resembling a rather irate orange pinecone, “F-Fortunately...” he muttered, “I believe you have...enough energy for both of us...”
However, his sense of humor had not been totally frozen over, “W-watch it...you’re on thin ice...” he chided, shaking his head, “My inevitable frostbite is snow joke...but I agree, we should freeze the day.” He declared, bristling against the cold and snickering to himself.

Re: back at it again at krispy kreme [priv.]
"Something strange must've been in the fresh-kill this morning." He can't help but laugh at dynamic between the two. A puffball who's face and dry tone completely clashed with his humor-laced words, and an excitable blur of black drawing attention with his spirited show.
Either way, seems like they've got their troupe.
"S'ppose we should get a move on before Larkstripe sticks to the dirt there." The tall tabby shakes out his fur as he makes way for a camp exit, and his head tilts slightly as he considers their options. "Should we walk along the edge of the thicket? The trees should block the cold winds."

(just gonna leave this here... https://youtu.be/l9J6HcSpTbU )
“I couldn’t agree more...” Larkstripe chattered, leaping up and shaking flecks of frost from his pelt.
“I definitely think sticking to the tree line is a pertinent idea, if we’ve any intentions of avoiding becoming catcicles.” He agreed. Once he was up, Larkstripe was light on his feet—either due to his WindClan heritage or his frozen pads, one could never be sure. The snow along the slope nearly reached the warrior’s belly, and he looked a bit like a drunken fox, half running, half bounding up the snowy grade, his banded tail flagged above his back.
“I am a distinguished warrior of RiverClan, and I will not allow a simple snowbank to best me.” He announced, locking his jaw and furrowing his brow in a rather fearsome glower. He built up strength in his hind legs, and with an effortful grunt, took a flying leap.
He landed in a whirlwind of frosty powder, nothing but two ginger ear tips and a banded tail visible above the drift.
“It appears...I have underestimated my opponent.” Came a muffled, crisp lilt, from beneath the heap of snow.

(lol)
The snow puns sent Eelsting into a fit of laughter- mostly snorts and suppressed wheezes- and he trotted a circle around the grumpy Larkstripe.
“Well, it’s nice to snow you still have a sense of humor!”
As for Firesweep, Eelsting shot the other warrior a grin and lapped him once before jogging toward the entrance to camp. It was tome to get this show on the road! Despite Eelsting’s cheer and assertion that Lark needed to put some pep in his step if he wanted to warm up, Eelsting himself was feeling the cold seeping through his fluff.
“Sounds like a good idea, Sweepy, Lark looks like he might shatter like an icicle of a strong wind blows him over.”
Of all things, the last thing Eelsting expected was for Larkstripe to sail into a snow bank. So the eloquent tom did have an adventurous side! The smoky warrior beamed and wiggled his toes with glee, already coming up with a mischievous plan. Tucking in his head like a ram, the warrior huffed and ran at Firesweep, trying to shove the fellow feline into the snowball with Larkstripe. Eelsting himself couldn’t be left out, though- obviously- so he took a running leap and dove head first into the white fluff, snorting and hiccuping out snow as he went.

Larkstripe floundered in the deep snow, grunting in dismay and finally managing to surface—at least partially—his eyes, ears, and frosted whiskers managing to make an appearance. His sea-green eyes widened as he saw his counterparts heaped in the adjacent mound of fresh powder. He twitched his whiskers.
“Well, hello there.” He announced, nearly nose-to-nose with Eelsting. With an effortful grunt, the sleek warrior managed to free his forepaws and haul himself out of his icy trappings, huffing dramatically, steam clouding around his muzzle.
“Watch your step, lads...oof, I know when I’ve been beat...” he huffed, rocking back on his haunches and shaking snow from his ears.

Re: back at it again at krispy kreme [priv.]
If they were a handful of apprentices, surely they would've been scolded and sent to the Elder's den to clean by now.
Firesweep widens his green eyes when Eelsting goes uncharacteristically quiet - his huffy breaths clouding around him - and charges. Without even a yelp the tabby launches up like a leaping fox, not really thinking about his landing pad. So, Firesweep piles right into the snow, sinking in the whole length of his legs! The cat held his long tail straight up in discomfort - not quite as disadvantaged as smaller Larkstripe but he felt the helplessness.
He twists his head around to shoot a grimace at Eelsting then clumsily shoves his way out of the deeper snow. "Well, off to a great start!"
"Let's not flake out on this now, Lark. Eelsting, I'm confident you'd make a fantastic line leader! How 'bout we excavate a way to the nearest sunny-ish path. The less snow we trudge through, the better."
