[RiverClan] New Landmark Competition! [70,000 kk in prizes!]

Hello WCO Community!

So as it stands right now, RiverClan is eligible for adding two new landmarks to their territory due to letting go of quite a bit. One of those landmarks has already been determined to be an old, abandoned lighthouse that will be discovered through roleplay in the near future - but the last one I wanted to reach out to the community to see what you all would like to see!

I haven't included a form because I want to see creativity with these landmark ideas. Be bold! Adventurous! Think outside the box! I want to see creative areas that scream "RiverClan" that perhaps haven't been used on site before.

Areas or locations to avoid: anything two-leg related! We've already had a Twoleg Den, and with the addition of the abandoned lighthouse I want to veer away from twoleg-esqe additions.

Other than that, feel free to toss your ideas at me! These ideas are due by 10/31 at 11:59pm PST. After that, I will go throuh with the rest of the RiverClan High Rank team and select the top three candidates*. Once those are selected, I'll lay them out here to be voted on by everyone else! The top landmark will become established in RiverClan's territory through roleplay, and the member who came up with it will receive recognition in the roleplay thread for having created it! But that's not all; they will also receive a prize of 50,000kk! Additionally, the two runner ups will each receive 10,000kk!
*RiverClan High Rank members are ineligible for this competition.

WISTERIA MAW

 

Wisteria Maw is a cave in which a Wisteria tree lies, a hole in the top of the cave allows light and water for the tree to flourish. The cave is named after the pointed stones lining the entrance, making it look like a jaw.

Samphire pools

Nearing Lionsbeach you'll find an array of saltwater pools fed by the sea spanning a large stretch of land and bordering the outskirts of Rivedclan territory. The land is mostly marshy all year round due to sea water lapping at the ground. This terrain is difficult to navigate because of the thick mud that surronds the pools and can cause slipping and various injuries if not careful, watch out for sinking as well! An unlucky cat might find themselves stuck!

However, the muddy conditions mixed with a plentiful supply of saline cause a multitude of costal plants, the majority of it samphire, to thrive. The abundance of sea faring plants create a thick boundary around the pools, providing coverage for small critters and opportunistic hunters! The fields of samphire provide a saltly snack for any cat brave enough and help support the harsh ecosystem of the pools.

Samphire pools are subject to cold temperatures and wind due to it's rather barren landscape. Ideally, it's not the best place to seek shelter and is vunerable to flooding in the case of storms or heavy rain, however there are many prospects for scavenging here, whether it be lost twoleg trinkets or small creatures. The terrain itself may also prove useful as a natural barrier for Riverclan due to it's large expanse and unforgiving conditions.

Plot ideas
•Mud races being held for the clan occasionally
•Apprentices learn stealth in marshy enviroments(using mud for camouflage, how to silently swim, ect)
•Scavenging competitions for the clan(who can the find the most and intrested things)
•Used in battles and stealth operations

THE CLOUDPEAK

A Shrubby, Mossy Area With Few Trees Surrounding A Large Clearing, With A Large Stone Jutting Out To Reveal A Small Forest Of Birch Trees. Below The Large Rock, Is A Slope Leading To The Small Forest. (Really Small. Like- 20-45 Trees) Birds Sing, Mice Scuttle. Tippical Prey And Stuff. A Small Stream Runs Through The Forest's Heart, A Fallen Tree Allowing Easy Crossing For Any Animals.

The Underground Lake

Pretty similar to what it says in the title! Also for real life examples see: Mystery Cave, Minnesota, or Craighead Caverns in Tennessee (though it doesn't have to be anywhere near the scale of those).

A loose description:

What first appears just to be an abandoned den of some burrowing creature smells odd-- almost like the fish and rivers. Although the descent down is dark and rocky, the light that manages to poke through reflects off of a giant pool of... water?

Yes. Water. A lake not dissimilar to those found aboveground sprawls out beneath here. Moss and other damp plant-life grows upon the slick rock walls while the pale water stretches out over a stony basin. Small caverns extend past where the last reaches, but who would be brave enough to explore so deep?

It allows for some flexibility of the cavern being as deep or shallow, and as big or small as needed. And the possibility of unexplored holes in the walls can be discovered later on to expand it, or just be set dressing to add to the overall feeling.

Starlit Cove

A cove with a series of natural underground tunnels linked by shallow rivers that lead to a possible underwater trench. The surrounding flora is mostly made of lush moss, seaweed, lichen and vines, with hardly any flowers or trees around. The only openings to this area are the holes in the cave's ceiling, allowing cascading sunlight (like stars), and the main cove entrance. Prey in this area is plenty during the summer, with many oceanic critters gathering to eat moss and other aquatic plants that flourish. In the winter, the central pool is completely frozen. When the light falls onto the iced over waters, it illuminates the cave with stars.

Okay, so, I have a… couple of ideas perhaps! I will list them out below and give some insight to them.

 

Echoing Cavern

This cavern lies hidden beneath a rocky hill, accessible only by a narrow, winding tunnel. Inside, the cavern opens into a spacious, dark expanse with natural acoustics that amplify even the quietest sounds. Underground streams trickle through, creating shallow pools that catch reflections of light from the mica-flecked walls, which shimmer faintly in the dimness.

The Echoing Cavern serves as a great training ground for apprentices learning how to navigate in darkness, with the water pools offering a unique challenge for catching fish by sound alone. It’s also a safe refuge for any severe upbringing of storms.

Potential Ideas:
- Following strange echoes deeper into the cavern than ever before.
- Discovering a hidden underground pool that glows faintly in the dark.
- Both warriors and apprentices can practice stealth and sound-based navigation within the echoing tunnels.

 

Silver Shoals

Hidden along a secluded river bend, Silver Shoals is a series of shallow pools scattered across smooth, flat stones that extend like stepping-stones into the river. The water here is clear and calm, allowing cats to see small fish darting between the rocks. During dawn and dusk, sunlight glistens off the scales of the fish, making the pools look as if they are filled with silver.

Silver Shoals is both a peaceful retreat and a prime spot for fishing practice. Cats often come here to test their speed and precision in the shallow waters, or enjoy soaking their paws and basking in the gentle sunlight along the smooth flat stones. The pools often have a calming effect, and it is often believed that spending time here brings clarity and focus to the mind.

Potential Ideas:
- Spotting rare fish with shimmering scales thought to bring good luck.
- A sudden flood washes through, changing the layout of the shoals and pools.
- Warriors and apprentices can compete in fishing competitions here.

the twinkling tidepools

The Tidepools are located along the rocky coast east of Lionsbeach. Along the rocks are a series of shallow tide pools, varying in size. The shallowest of the pools is just enough water for a kit to splash in, while the deepest is deep enough for a warrior to swim in. During the day, the pools shimmer in the sunlight, but the night time is when they're truly dazzling. The pools twinkle in the starlight and create the illusion of tiny stars inside the pools.

The tide pools are home to a few different types of marine life. The Twinkling Pools are home to several different and unique types of creatures, like colorful barnacles and starfish. Even some more dangerous anemones and urchins that RiverClan learns to be wary of. There's also numerous types of prey located here. Many of the fish are tiny, but some of them are still big enough to be caught! There are also many crabs, which attract many types of sea birds, which makes it the perfect spot for bird hunting.

Shallow pools that lack sea life could be a good place to teach kits and apprentices to swim for the first time, due to the shallow and calm water. It could also be a good place to teach fishing. Maybe the cats could even learn to catch crabs? (Crabbing could be a fun new RiverClan skill... ) The tide pools are also a nice place to collect pretty trinkets like shells and stones.

The rocks' around the tidepool allow for a nice place for cats to sun themselves during the day. Also the proximity to the ocean allows for pretty sightseeing. (Think of all the mate proposals that'll watch the sunset by the ocean~)
