Suddenly, the crystal dimmed. Now, it wasn't glowing at all. The burns on Hugo's hand now reached past his elbow.

"It's fine..." Hugo said through gritted teeth, examining his arm. The place where the crystal had burnt through his pocket also hurt. He was guessing that that burn had grown too.
