• Springpaw •
long-furred, oriental-shaped, gray-and-orange calico molly with blue eyes; torn right ear
_________________________________________________
Either it was just her gut telling her this, or it was just her opposition, but Springpaw could easily see through the barrier that Dovefluff was already putting up on herself. The calico may have been naive at times, but she wasn’t full-on oblivious to such facts like that. Dovefluff’s pain from losing her children had a profound impact on her, as Springpaw’s keen eyes had occasionally caught sight of her bagged eyes or ragged fur. Hell, she even caught sight of the tear stains smeared on the gray molly’s face. So that was one of the biggest factors for how Springpaw mentally knew that Dovefluff was initially not okay, she just didn’t dare to speak it out. That would’ve felt like a wrong and impulsive decision to do. She would allow Dovefluff to be within her own space, and Springpaw would be with her own as well. The calico didn’t want to cause trouble within the small trio.
However, Springpaw couldn’t help but flash another small smile at the gray molly as she began to speak, nodding slowing in understanding of the gray molly’s explanation. Of course Springpaw knew both Goldenpaw and Hazelpaw were indefinitely great cats, as Goldenpaw was quite literally the apprentice of Bumblestar herself and Hazelpaw?… well Springpaw felt like that apprentice had more potential than her. Springpaw didn’t bother to pay much attention towards the thought too long, the thought only making her doubts cripple themselves around the corners of her mind. Bumblestar chose her for a reason; a reason that she couldn’t exactly compute for. Was it from that… omen? A small shiver ran down her spine, ears twitching as she tried to succumb the tingling feeling in her chest. Even if it was an omen, and it was StarClan’s choice. What if it just ended up being the same as Cinderpaw? Cinderpaw was chosen by StarClan and look at her: she gets demoted from her rank. A quiet huff escaped from Springpaw as she let out s soft sigh, shaking her head to clear away the thoughts.
Springpaw’s attention soon turned towards the russet tom when he began to speak against his silence. The corners of her lips curled upwards from his rather lame attempt to joke, but it was enough to get a small chuckle out of the molly and give her a smile at least. Springpaw didn’t admit it, but she didn’t think that Alderstep was that much of a bad tom. No, it wasn’t from the fact that he was quite literally her former mentor’s best friend. It could’ve been from her being around him often, or from their interactions from the sinkhole evacuation from the old camp, but Springpaw didn’t necessarily see him as a bad dude. She had hopes that he could be a good deputy and eventually gain Bumblestar’s trust, just as Springpaw could eventually do the same with her rank. “Yeah, I’ll try not to let her eat me,” she mused, purring softly in response, “I’ll keep an eye out for myself.” Her response felt bland, but it was a simple way to respond to the russet-furred deputy without being overly enthusiastic or hyper about it. Those emotions weren’t technically her strong suit.
As she lifted herself atop of her paws, she twitched an ear briefly to flick off any intruding bug that was going to try to land on one of her ears. Bugs were annoying, always causing her skin to itch or her to flick a tail or an ear. Gross. Other than that quick little thought, she glanced back-and-forth from Alderstep to Dovefluff before speaking again. “It’s probably best if I go out to find Roseraven. It was what I came out here for anyways so she could help me and Drizzlecloud out. I hope you both have a good conversation though! Oh, and Alderstep,” she quickly turned her attention towards the tom, a small smile apparent on her face, “I believe that you’ll be a good deputy. You’re outspoken and responsible, and I completely agree with why Bumblestar would’ve chosen you to be deputy. She’ll warm up to you eventually.” She chided, whisking the tip of her tail for a short ‘good luck’ for the both of them before beginning to shuffle her way towards the warriors den..

Alderstep half-listened to Dovefluff's reassurances to Springpaw. Rather, his mind was on the recent meeting. Bumblestar had said something about an omen. The rain or whatever. He had his doubts about that, though. Not that he was a killjoy (he totally was), but he suspected that Bumblestar had made that up. He just had a hard time believing StarClan had anything to do with the selections. The leader had only seen capable cats and did what she thought was best. Or so he thought.
The deputy nodded as Springpaw promised to watch her back. He got the feeling she meant more than that, which was good. ThunderClan needs its cats to be wary for themselves. Alderstep glanced at Dovefluff, hoping to make eye contact (ew) to convey, "you better keep an eye out for this child or I'll feed you to the dogs." ThunderClan could also use a pawful of threats. But Alderstep had no doubt that Dovefluff could manage to look over Springpaw. The queen was, well, queenly.
Nodding as Springpaw excused herself, Alderstep hoped Roseraven had some information to divulge, for the sake of the clan. Color him surprised when the apprentice addressed him. The deputy looked at her, wondering what she had to say. Had she seen something? Heard something? Nope. Just a bunch of sickly sweet compliments. Alderstep kept himself from rolling his eyes, for Springpaw's sake. He guessed it was nice that the young she-cat was confident in his abilities, but he didn't think he could live to disappoint her expectations. At least everyone seemed to know he was responsible. That was his single dignity. Alderstep snorted a bit of laughter at Springpaw's last comment. So she felt the intimidation as well. Good to know. The tom watched her go, sighing just a bit.
Looking at Dovefluff, he answered, "It's all the same to me." He bet he sounded like a butthead for having such vague answers, but this one he didn't really know. "But if you see me in the warrior's den..." he trailed off, his gaze flicking up to the sky. "Just know that Bumblestar is a snorer." With that, he fell silent. There wasn't much the two had in common, Alderstep realized dully. They were almost polar opposites. Not even almost, it was completely.
Never one to devour someone's time, the tabby rose to his paws. "Take your time," he said in lieu of a farewell. Alderstep had no idea how grief worked for her, much less grieving for a child, but he supposed that statement was generalized enough to suit Dovefluff. He padded to the camp entrance, intending to blow off his pent-up anxiety through a wander in the woods.

The newly appointed medicine cat poked her head out of the medicine den. She noted seeing her apprentice, who was currently toddling off to the warriors den after a chat with Alderstep and Dovefluff.
Her eyes drifted across the clearing, and eventually her eyes landed on Tigerblush. A sudden rush of excitement ran through her veins, and within a few moments, she was darting out of the den and out to go see her mother. Her excitable demeanor was one to be expected from a young apprentice, not Thunderclan’s new medicine cat.
“Hey!” She chirped as she approached her mother, leaning down to poke her on the forehead with her nose. “I promised I’d come see you, so here I am.”
[ @GANDERGOOSE , sorry for taking a bit to reply! Busy day yesterday, and I wanted to get to some of the other rps that I hadn’t responded to yet. ]

"I'd do anything to have them back. I don't know what to do... I don't know if I'm a queen or a warrior now, I just want my kids back." She sobbed, words muffled. Why did they have to be taken from her? They were just children. Her children. And how would she talk to Hawkbite at the gathering? her only friend from ShadowClan, surely he would ask about her kits. What did she say? How could she explain it?
The queen wept, unaware that perhaps she should've been more careful with her actions in her grief filled state, face pressed into the fur of the kind tom who had offered himself as the cat to comfort her. She wanted Morningcall. She wanted her best friend, but she wasn't here. So Dovefluff just melted into the comfort that Lioncrest offered her, her loud, heart wrenching sobs eventually subsiding into hollow sniffles as the gentle strokes of the other cat's tail lulled her into broken, silent calm. Like the calm after a hurricane, the silence, and the molly just stared off into space, numb.
Gently pressing her nose into his side, she wiped her eyes and nose. "Thank you." She whispered hoarsely, with a certain tone of defeat and numbness that only came with a parent losing their child. A broken cat, breaking more and more but somehow still holding themselves together after such a painful loss. She had been so sure that the grief would kill her, so how was she still standing? "Will you help me bury her?" She choked out, voice shaking and hollow. No one new had come over, and she assumed it would be... time.
The mere thought of burying her child, the final goodbye, made her want to vomit, but she miraculously didn't, sliding back to rise to a sitting position, legs shaking. She was shocked to realize that she was able to stand. That she was able to still breathe after the agonizing death of her daughter. That she could still function.
Crazy how the world kept turning even when you think it should stop.
(we can move this to willow's rise either with your next post or mine, just so the burial can take place butterflypost is coming out tomorrow!)
~Lioncrest~
Fluffy golden tail continuing its gentle and comforting ministrations, Lioncrest simply let out a (hopefully comforting) rumbling purr in response to Dovefluff's grief. He could not solve this terrible situation with words, but he could be there for support and comfort, so that was what he did. Careful not to overstep his bounds to far, he gently rested his chin atop her head; the grey queen was practically enveloped. Giving her some semblance of privacy as she grieved.
As wails and sobs turned to sniffs and aching quiet, the large golden tom pulled back and tilted his head down slightly to carefully observe his charge. Her gaze was distant, clearly still distraught, but the queen buried in his pelt was strong. She would be able to make it through this.
"There is no need to thank me Dovefluff," he murmured, voice low and steady as the queen finally spoke. "You are entitled to both grief and comfort in this clan, I am merely honored to provide you the later."
As she choked out her desperate request, that spark of pride burned even brighter in his chest and his amber gaze filled with a solemn sense of duty.
"There would be no higher honor than to assist you in such a sacred duty," he stated softly before rising up alongside the grey queen. "I will ensure that no harm comes to her as we traverse the territory to our ancestor's resting place. We can take as much time as you wish."
With a surprising amount of care and gentleness, Lioncrest leaned down to scoop the fallen kit up by her scruff. The scent of milk and nursery was fading from the young child, however he would not do them the disrespect of crinkling his nose at the encroaching scent of death. No, this kit would be cared for as if he was tucking them into a new nest.
Amber eyes met Dovefluff's as he gently placed his tail atop her back to lead her to Willow's Rise. This was a somber day for Thunderclan...
[ I wanted to get one more in the clearing, so if you'd like to make a starter at Willow's Rise that'd be @jupiter]

"POUNCE"
Rosekit exclaimed before pouncing onto the poor mossball. Rosekit giggled as they held onto the ball and turned onto their back bunny kicking the plaything they had in their paws.

Tigerblush's eyes brightened with delight as she noticed Drizzlecloud making her way over, sitting up and greeting her daughter with a soft purr. She settled her tail neatly atop her paws, gesturing to the empty spot beside her with a small nod. "That was a quick," She commented off-handedly before continuing with a flick of her ear. "How're ya feeling? Not too overwhelmed by the whole medicine-cat-thing, I hope?" Her expression was laidback but there was still a pinch of concern as she spoke. Tigerblush hadn't been to the medicine den much, 'nor had she spoken very casually to the prior medicine cats, but the role definitely came off as stressful, and stress was the last thing she wanted for Drizzlecloud.

“Mhm, quicker than I thought.” Drizzlecloud agreed with a nod of her head, wasting no time in sitting directly beside her mother, her side pressing against hers.
“Ah, it’s…” A little bit overwhelming, but she didn’t want to worry her mother. Then again, Tigerblush would probably figure that out one way or another, so there was truly no point in trying to lie to her. “A little bit much, but I just have to get used to it. I want to stay strong for Springpaw, she’s clearly very anxious about all of this. Knowing that I’m anxious would probably make it worse.”
She flicked her tail, staring down at her paws. In all honesty, she wasn’t sure if she would be able to do it. Right now, she knew nothing but the basics. Y’know, cobwebs, sticks… Don’t eat deathberries. She definitely needed a lot of help before she could even think about confidently calling herself Thunderclan’s Medicine Cat.
With a small huff, she slouched against her mother’s side. “I’m sure I’ll figure it all out, mumma. Just gonna need some help, for a little while.”
[ @GANDERGOOSE , no worries! School is very important, so take all of the time you need. ]
