Redfeather ears perked up and looked back at him with one raised eyebrow as his whiskers twitched
" be that as it may , let's agree to disagree shall we? " he said as he cleaned his fur then he layed down . Birdsong hid back in the bush as she waited

He scowled," Fine, agree to disagree, but don't hurt her." He replied tensing as he presumed Redfeather would attack her.

I've got priorities - like feeding our Clan." She turned her muzzle towards the thicker undergrowth, scraping some dirt and leaves over the fish, making a mental note to come back for it once their hunting expedition finished. Redpaw nudged Gannetpaw off in the direction of the bushes, her ears still warm from his previous teasing. "Now hush up, mouse-brain, and go check the bushes for something! I'll go down by the riverbed. Don't want to have to drag you back to camp soaking wet and shivering because you took a tumble... again."
Without waiting for the response, the calico apprentice hurriedly padded down to the swollen river; thick with the heavy rainfall, though not wide enough to threaten the hospitalized Clans with another flood. Redpaw licked her lips anxiously, her whiskers still dripping with the excess water she'd dove in a while ago to catch that carp. With her brilliant amber eyes trained on the murky liquid, she narrowed them in an attempt to spot out any stray carps that had been driven downstream by the storm. Her claws unsheathed and ready to strike any fish, Redpaw brought her muzzle close to the water.
She huffed, "Nothing... aw, rotten luck!" Her tail swished, mirroring her bitterness, though Redpaw's ears immediately perked at a soft scuffling; just barely distinguishable past the roar of the rushing water. Pressing her body against the ground, Redpaw breathed in the air, only able to scent the dampened bark from trees, and the mud her paws thudded against. And without proper land-prey hunting training, the calico she-cat knew she had a slimmer chance of catching whatever prey was out and about than Gannetpaw leaping for that water vole. However, this didn't make the apprentice feel any less determined; Redpaw continued in a rather shabby hunting crouch, ears picked as she tried to listen for the scuffling sound once more, and locate the prey at the source.
A small smirk spread across the tom's maw, but he said nothing. Sometimes Gannetpaw could have some pretty jerk-like tendancies. Such as, teasing others. It was a balance of kind and sarcastic that was sometimes off, and sometimes just right. If you were lucky it was just right. Sometimes he was annoyingly friendly and kind, sometimes he was more boastful and sarcastic. On the bright side, he obviously trusted Redpaw not to be that harsh towards him. If he distrusted her, he wouldn't have said a thing. Probably would have been shyer. More nervous. Not quite willing to tease. "Okay, okay, your majesty." The words were muttered under his breath as he headed further into the bushes, muttering about Redpaw being a "slave driver" and how he wouldn't "stand for this" or something like that.

There was nothing rustling in the bushes at the moment, and any prey-scents (other then that vole that he had missed earlier) were stale. Not even Gannetpaw's eyes could pick up anything, even though his other senses were much more reliable. The black and white tom shifted his weight, picking up his paws and watching the bushes as though anticipating something big happening in the next few minutes. But, there was nothing - not that he was thinking of, anyways. Frustration swept through the tom as he watched the bushes. There was still nothing. Time ticked on, and Gannetpaw was beginning to grow bored. Yet he remained there, having the patience to do so (thank StarClan) and deciding that he wouldn't give up on this hunting expedition.

The Clan needed that prey.

A scuffle, barely loud enough for him to hear but loud enough so that his ear could just barely pick it up, sounded in the bushes. Could it be that vole? No, it was too small for that. Whatever it was, Gannetpaw sprang - and instantly broke the neck of something small and furry. A shrew, an adolescent by the looks of it, and one who was not particuarly fat, was under his paw when he lifted it. Great. That would feed... a few kits, a litter if he was lucky, depending on how greedy the kits were. Gannetpaw dug a small hole, burying the shrew. If there was one - surely there were more somewhere. A family, perhaps? Maybe the adolescent had siblings who had recently left the nest or something? At least, the feline could hope. He hoped Redpaw was having some better luck then he was - maybe she had stumbled upon some fatter carp or something.

I mentioned on my profile that I was starting over. A fresh start is best for me right now; I've created quite a few new characters, and they will all be on my site, but not all will be used in roleplay right away. it's likely I'll bring them in more gradually.

Much time had passed since Redpaw had first heard the gentle scuttling from deep within the undergrowth. Her tail lashed as she dug her claws into the mushy soil, frustrated. "Pray to StarClan it wasn't something big, like a squirrel," the apprentice bitterly murmured to nobody but herself, sighing. It wouldn't have been anything like a squirrel - they hardly strayed over to RiverClan territory, and the noises that were made were much too silent to be anything as plump as a squirrel.
It could've just been a really scrawny one, a voice in the back of Redpaw's mind tried to convince her. She shook the thoughts away - nothing would get done if she decided to dwell on the missed prey. Besides, Redpaw had left the land-hunting to Gannetpaw, after seeing his spectacular performance with the vole. The thought made her whiskers twitch in amusement, though the apprentice managed to turn tail and pad quietly back to the riverside. She loomed over the rushing waters, her shadow cast over the harsh ripples.
This was the complete opposite of everything Honeypool had taught her regarding hunting fish. The technique was to not let your shadow loom into the river and alert the fish you were there; it was one of the first rules of hunting fish. Though at this point, Redpaw was getting frustrated and impatient, ears picked and listening for any sign of a carp in the water.
Maybe, Redpaw began to daydream, just maybe, if I stare hard enough at the water I'll spot a carp! ...Yeah! That sounds fair enough. And I'll drop it on the fresh-kill pile with my other fish, and those ShadowClan scum will be all, "Oh, Redpaw! You're truly a selfless cat! First, being oh-so kind to us ShadowClan cats taking refugee, and secondly, sharing your prey? Why, they 'ought to give you your warrior name right no-"
The apprentice's greedy thoughts were interrupted by a sudden splashing coming from the river. Redpaw flinched at first, though regained her cool, the fur flattening along her spine. O-oh! She thought, amber eyes growing wide as her claws unsheathed instinctively. A carp! A-a-and it has to be a big one for it to be splashing this loudly! Licking her lips in anticipation, Redpaw got into proper position (or something at least a little closer to it), diverting her shadow from looming into the river. Her ears flattened against her wet fur, paw raised as she tried to spot the location of the carp. Suddenly, a sleek figure flashed in the corner of her eye, to the right, though when Redpaw struck the water, only one of her claws struck a scale as the carp fled in the water.
"You won't get away from me that easily!" Redpaw growled beneath her breath, recoiling from the water and giving her thick coat one last shake to free the excess water from earlier. The calico narrowed her eyes, leaping into the river in pursuit of the carp. She'd covered basic swimming maneuvers with Honeypool, and luckily, Redpaw was much too stubborn to even think of drowning, even if stubbornness wasn't what measured her swimming skills. The apprentice was just lucky that the river wasn't gushing water as roughly as it could've been during a storm, and Redpaw's calico-colored head bobbed up above the waves. Her fur was damp and plastered against her skin, though the river wasn't as deep as she'd thought, allowing her to stand on the tips of her paws if she tried hard enough. Redpaw glanced back at the water going downstream towards her, holding her breath as a wave consumed both the young she-cat and the carp she was pursuing. Opening her eyes beneath the murky riverwater, Redpaw blinked as she caught sight of the sleek carp that had escaped her earlier.
She paddled through the water, extending her foreleg as far as it would go in an effort to snag her claws beneath one of the scales. It felt her many vibrations, however, and with a flick of its huge tail, fled deeper down the river. Redpaw grit her teeth, irritated. She felt her throat tighten with the lack of oxygen and resurfaced, breathing in heavily. Bitter, the young apprentice managed to drag herself to the side of the river, panting and dripping wet. Redpaw hoisted herself out of the riverbed, shaking off all the liquid that covered her body. A shiver ran down her spine, but the feline was much too irked to be bothered with the cold. She would survive, anyways - the worst thing to happen was that she would develop a little cold and have to visit Geckoleaf and Juniperpaw. Digging her claws into the mud, Redpaw stormed off further down the river in an effort to find more carps that were hopefully less clever.

No matter how much she wanted to believe it. And, she shouldn't care about him. Because he didn't care about her. As a clan mate? Sure. He had to care about all his clan mates...then, again that was minimum that he cared about anyone. But, as anything else, he didn't care. So, he didn't understand why she would care. ''As a clan mate, you should care. But, as any other...I think you should know the answer to that question.'' He was hurting her feelings...without trying to. Dream could be rather insensitive, and not care much what others think. Their feelings always went over his head because he was so focused on trying to paint the bigger picture. Right at the moment, she was keeping him from doing that.

Now, Dream was in a complicated position. It was rare that he thought about the kits. Which he still refused to accept as his own...but, they were indeed his. The tom blinked at her, letting out a soft sigh. She had shouted out the reasons her kits didn't like her apparently. It made the tom uncomfortable. Like little insects crawling under his pelt. ''That's a shame.'' What else was he supposed to say? There was nothing he could say. Even if she said those words, he still wouldn't come around. He just didn't want to be a father. Didn't she understand that? The reason he left. But, instead he carried himself next to her to sit down. Not too closely. He didn't want to give her the wrong idea. ''Ah, listen here - Uh - Fawnpatch,'' He paused. While he was talking to her, he was devising a plan to get away. It was already enough complex emotions around them. Frankly, Dream didn't do emotions. ''I'm sure they love you! You're the only one they have.'' Here, he was speaking what he knew was wrong. And, uncalled for. But, Dream hardly ever thought about things like that until they were said. ''So, you have to be there for them, you know? After all, you've been doing it for...um...how old are they now?'' Dream was actually very curious to know how old they were. He didn't remember their names. He didn't know much about them. He was there the day they were born. And, truthfully - they've been so beautiful. Just gorgeous little versions of their mother. Then again, Dream didn't know a thing about them. Not their age, not their name, not even remembering their gender. Nothing. Nada.

Fawnpatch couldn't help but feel hurt. He still had feeling for her... right? He used to at least. She remembered the days when they were together, it was as clear as if it were yesterday. When all you did was daydream memories were pretty easy to keep. But he had said that as a clanmate she should care, it made her feel like that was all she was to him. Just another clanmate. He had felt something before, she was sure of it. Except, now he didn't seem to. Know the answer to that? Of course she didn't! Well, at least she didn't want to. She wan't to lash out at him, to force him to admit he cared about her. Of at least he had cared about her. Even in past tense she didn't care. Fawnpatch just wanted to be positive he cared, or he had cared. Either way if in some way he cared about her. "That's how I care about you." she lied, which was very convincing as she had the daydreamy look she always did.

Well, at least he had enough dignity to say something about her kits not liking her. Yes it is indeed a shame." she huffed, her dazed daydreamy look beginning to look present for once. Fawnpatch looked at him like he was brainless, and he actually seemed like he was. But, she guessed he hadn't changed as much as she had expected. "Five moons to learn to hate me." she grumbled, wishing the tom understood for once. "They like you more and they don't even know you!" She wailed, the molly wished more now then ever things were like they used to be. She wished he was the tom he had been, the one who had cared about her so she could seek him out for comfort. So that she could know that at least he cared even if the kits didn't. But then she was feeling more helpless then ever.

Digging her claws into the mud, Redpaw stormed off further down the river in an effort to find more carps that were hopefully less clever.
Since catching the shrew, Gannetpaw hadn't had too much luck. There had been a close call with another vole (or was it the same one?) and another shrew caught, but other then that, not much had happened. Now, if only he could catch a vole, then he would be set! Part of it was pride. He honestly didn't want to back down. And the other part was the bubbling anxiety - what if everyone started laughing at him, thinking he was a fool? What if Redpaw thought that? What if his warrior ceremony was delayed, because it was thought that he was incompetent? What if- stop that. Stop that now. Anyone who was close to Gannetpaw knew that he very much cared what others thought of him. It might be why he was so boastful. Why he threw off personal, verbal attacks with either a nonchalant "your call" manner, and then would ignore you for days afterwards, or would say nothing and just stare as though he couldn't believe you would say something like that. It explained why he had blown off his trip as a joke, because he wouldn't want to look like more of a fool then he already was.

Anxiety... caused his pride. Pushed it to the limits. It was something that Gannetpaw hated, he hated it more then anything else. Technically he almost hated himself. Waiting for something, anything to come out of the bushes and hopefully cause some excitement, the black and white feline thought he had never been more bored in his life. A light splash coming from the river made his ears pick up, but he was nervous to go investigate - just in case it was the sound of his companion catching something, and he distracted her. Never once did the thought that Redpaw might have had trouble in the river. A vole! A new sound caught the tom's attention. His ears picked up and he crouched down, getting ready to spring. This time, he wouldn't miss the vole. The two shrews he had caught were shrimpy and they wouldn't feed enough cats, no matter how optimistically Gannetpaw tried to look at it, in the end he came back to the same conclusion.

He wasn't an optimist anyways! He was a realist. And no matter how much he had tried to change that, to look at the world through positive eyes, all he saw was what it really was. Or at least - the most likely outcome of what it really was. The Clan wouldn't be able to support ShadowClan as well, and from what Gannetpaw had seen, not many of those apprentices were doing much hunting. For RiverClan, anyways. Whatever they caught was given to their own Clan and they took some of RiverClan's prey as well. Even if they seemed to hate the "stinky fish" they were generously offered. The black and white tom sprang, and his claws nicked the vole's hide this time - but it escaped. For the third time! Though that was only if this was the same vole, which was very highly doubtful. Still, Gannetpaw's frustration knew no boundaries.

"Mouse dung!" He snarled, tail lashing as the vole slipped away. It wouldn't get far. Swimming was a strong point of the tom's, and that, plus his frustration and overwhelming surge of desperation, combined to make the recklessness that had him leaping into the water. The vole was swimming away, a trail of crimson making it easy to track. Gannetpaw swiftly swam after it, the water swaying him off course and making it hard for him to keep on the vole, but eventually he caught up to the animal. It's injury, courtesy of the tom himself, had slown it down enough for Gannetpaw to catch the small rodent. And now his frustration had been taken out on the animal. A much messier kill then he had been planning, but at least now he had the vole after three missed attempts. Or maybe it hadn't been a single missed attempt!

Still, it was too close to not be considered a coincidence. This vole could feed two, or maybe even three cats! It was a big animal, much to Gannetpaw's surprise - yes, he had finally caught something that would be a worthy contribution to the Clan he loved so much! "Take that, you sneaky rodent!" He laughed with a smile on his maw. I really hope... things are going as good for Redpaw as they are for me. Gannetpaw thought as he went back to where the other two shrews were buried. This might be enough - it might be.

PROFILE PICTURE REFERENCE

I mentioned on my profile that I was starting over. A fresh start is best for me right now; I've created quite a few new characters, and they will all be on my site, but not all will be used in roleplay right away. it's likely I'll bring them in more gradually.
