Mistleap padded out of the warriors den, trying to hide in her own fur. "Don't look at me." She thought, and scrambled over to a corner in the camp. "Maybe...Creampelt's here?"

Uh-oh. Oh, this did not look good at all. He'd really screwed up last night, hadn't he? Stars, Goosefury, what is WRONG with you? He couldn't last two days without making some cat hate him, and Rainydawn was only further proof of this.
The look on her face and the ice in her eyes froze his blood and made him stop in his tracks. His ears flattened against his head and he flinched, drawing his foreleg close to his chest. For several moments he said nothing, only studied her hardened expression with a nervous gaze. The pain in her voice made him blink.

Ugh. Might as well get it over with. Otherwise she'd hate him forever.

He set his paw back down and squared his shoulders with a deep breath. "Rainydawn, I'm sorry about last night," he said. That's all he was doing lately, wasn't it - apologizing? Fawnsqueak had said something about that once, about just being kinder in general to make sure he didn't have to apologize often. And, truthfully, he'd been trying his best to follow that advice. Psh. Some good that did me. "I didn't mean to, uh, come onto you like that," he continued. "I was just talking, and then it slipped out, and I didn't even realize how it sounded until you relayed the same thing. And I panicked and pushed you away, and that was super wrong of me, so, like... I'm sorry?" He winced. His apology sounded more like a question than anything else, even to his own ears.

Skyripple sat down with anger. Her stupid, mouse-brain sister was having kits with that ShadowClan tom, and her "mate" Driftbreeze was a total idiot. "Just let her have the perfect life," she grumbled. "I would rather join StarClan with Streampaw." Instantly she was caught up in memories. Oh, the fun times they would have together. Then, they decided to swim in a storm. Streampaw was whisked away in the storm, never to be seen again. "STREAMPAW!" Skyripple could hear her cry. "MISTPAW! SKYPAW" Skyripple sank to the ground. Streampaw was gone. She knew that. But she missed her so damn much.

He seemed to consider the name change, tilting his head to himself and looking up to the top of the den. It wasn't that he would hate to, he was more stuck on the fact he would be giving up his name just to have it back.

Coral nodded and his eyes moved back to the leaded. He was determined to be seen as a good cat and accepted by his clan...mates?

"I don't mind, as long as I can still join." He scratched at his ear, a small hum slipping from him. "I just don't want a name because of my muddy paws."

Rainydawn noticed Goosefury draw in on himself and the tiny bitter pet of her felt some kind of twisted satisfaction. Most of her just felt sad and confused, though- apparently her ability to shut out emotion was susceptible to other cats’ pain more than her own. Figured.

His apology sounded a bit like a question but she could tell it was genuine. Goosefury was clearly nervous- which felt strangely silly to Rainydawn- and he definitely looked apologetic. It hurt to hear that he was apologizing for complimenting her, though. He hadn’t meant to do that and she’s made him uncomfortable by doing it right back. She hasn’t even meant to flirt with him! She was just being honest about her favorite color- she knew it would be awkward! Ugh, she should’ve just made something up about some other color. Not the color he literally was! This was all her fault. She did this every time! Stars she needee to isolate herself away from other cats1 she clearly couldn’t stop getting her hopes up.

Rainydawn’s cold facade melted away to weariness. She wasn’t happy or stony. She just was.

“It’s alright. It’s my fault anyway- I shouldn’t go hopping into your nest every night.”

Was he going to keep digging a hole for himself? Was he going to keep going or was he going to realize at some point that it would be better to fess up and tell the truth?

"You left to clear your head, hmm? You... went for a walk to clear your head and you just... what? Kept going?" At this point, the repetition was to ensure that he was listening to the words coming out of his own mouth, "So, tell me then, Scarfang, why is it that I don't remember you being around for the battle?"

He was exasperated now. "I wasn't around for the battle! When I left I heard about it. I didnt want to come back and look a fool after I didnt help! So I kept walking. I'm back now. And I am sorry for leaving."

His tail swished and his whiskers twitched.

"And why wouldn't you share that immediately? A pool of blood and tracks can be a sign of a threat to our clan and you deem it unimportant? I really don't see a viable explanation for that unless you're incompetent or trying to hide something." he replied. Her nervous stuttering lent something to her case - it could have truly been a slip of the mind and she forgot but if that was the case, how could anyone forget to mention something like that?

"You're late," he replied flatly, barely glancing up to acknowledge the other warrior, "But given you're one of the few warriors around here that seems to have his head on straight and you've gotten the job done I don't see reason to give you too hard of a time. I'll be sure to tell future patrols in that area to keep an eye out. I know it's quite a trip to Lionsrange but what took so long?"

"So, instead of helping your clan fight a battle you decide to defect and now you expect me to welcome you back because you say you're sorry? How can I be sure you won't just run off again next time trouble arises?" Sootflare could sense the agitation coming from the other tom and if he was exasperated by this conversation, he could only imagine how the deputy felt in that moment.

"Look, I just want to come back to my clan and right the wrongs I caused." He snorted. "You should want another able warrior in your paws I'd think." The amber eyed tom gazed levely at the deputy.
