He hoped that Tesler would approve.

Paige stood next to Tesler, watching the mayhem play out below. Interesting that Beck doesn't kill his enemy, she thought. She never noticed it before.
Skye couldn't bear to watch. The roaring of the crowd was enough to make her cower in fear.

Chris had derezzed two programs already. "How come you don't derezz them?" He blocked a disc flying towards him. He pulled out his staff. "Missed me?" He loved using his staff.

Chris was unable to block an attack from behind. He fell to his knees and was grabbed by the neck. He was held up, and the program doing it pulled out his disc.

Beck kicked the back of the attacking program's knees, a basic but effective maneuver. He prepared to make another move if the program persisted.
The one he'd arrived with seemed like the worthiest candidate for a teammate, so he hoped to Flynn that the two of them could work together. That was how he and Cutler had survived, anyway.

The program stumbled, but was unharmed. He still held Chris up and drove his disc into his neck. Chris couldn't stop it.

Beck gave a cry of alarm, and accidentally derezzed the program from behind. He didn't realize his disc was lit, and practically kicked himself because of his mistake. The firewall would need serious medical attention-- something Beck didn't know how to administer.
Instead, he turned to the other programs surrounding him and began fighting them off, making sure the blade of his disc was inactive this time.

Chris hit the ground and didn't get up. He had dropped his staff and disc. His neck was bleeding poxels, and he would need to be taken out if he didn't get derezzed.

Paige didn't bat an eyelash at the sight of-- Chris, was it?-- getting a disc blade to the throat. She'd been numbed to that sort of thing by now. "Have you made your decision yet, General?" she asked flatly, not looking over at him.
"Not yet. He's all defense, no offense. Hardly someone worthy of you."
"If you don't mind my saying so, sir, his fighting style compliments my more aggressive strategies. We'd make quite a team."
"Quiet. I want to enjoy this."
Skye heard the sounds of chaos below, but didn't want to look. She was already shivering in terror.
