"Tell me, based on smell, which border are we at now?"
It felt dumb to ask but he wanted to make sure his apprentice was ready.

Minnowpaw sniffed around just in case his mentor was testing him.He looked up."Were at Thunderclan right?",asked Minnowpaw.

Re: RiverClan Territory
Cricketflight let out a nervous squeak.
"Yeah. Just making sure, alright? You already know some history, but I don't know much about their life style. There's lot's of trees. So they probably learn how to climb them."
Most non clan cats he knew climbed trees and it was unusual to not know. Perhaps he could share that knowledge.
It's weird to think it's an oddity in the Clan's.

"Why would they climb trees? They could just fish for food like us.",said Minnopaw. He couldn't understand why other cats wanted to waste time chasing prey around when they could walk up to the river and get food.Unfortunantly Minnopaw didn't know how to fish or hunt yet.

Re: RiverClan Territory
Cricketflight chortled softly and turned to Minnowpaw, briefly sitting himself down.
"Well, not all of the Clans have rivers with fish like we do. The Clans have all adapted differently depending on what their territory gives them. We have the rivers of fish and they have trees, just like the moor cats have rabbits and tunnels".
He shrugged, not entirely certain if WindClan actually used the rabbit warrens. He heard that they did, but wasn't for sure about it.
"I do know that if you leave the territories and go further beyond, most cats that fend for themself know how to climb trees. It's good way to get away from a lot of predators."
He looked back to the trees, almost wistfully.
He sort of missed his life before the Clans, but not often or for very long. There wasn't much to love about it other than there were no rules like they have. Even now he still didn't know them all.

"Beanpaw," they address him. "You're going to hunt. I want you to catch two fish large enough to feed two grown warriors, and one land-dwelling animal. You can leave those to collect after the assessment." They pause, giving him time to commit that to memory.
"I also want you to find me some things on our territory. A shell, uncracked or broken, the feather of a bird that you find pretty, and one living flower plucked from the ground." Again, Sassafrasfire gives the apprentice a moment.
"You're going to bring those to me, but this last part isn't going to be a simple delivery. I suppose we must touch upon every aspect of your skills- You can stash your treasures somewhere nearby once you've tracked me down, because I want you to ambush me and show me how well you're able to fight. Claws away, obviously."
The warrior becomes quiet one final time, gazing off into the distance as they wonder what else there was to say. Unable to think of anything, they nod conclusively to Beanpaw and flick their tail. "Any questions?"

Beanpaw
________
He turned around swiftly, clear blue eyes focused on the cat in front of him. Almost immediately, those eyes widened in alarm. Fish?? As in, the one thing he wasn’t 100% on?? Ooo... okay. And some normal prey! Yeah! Okay. Whew... he could do that. But before he could head off, Sassafrasfire stated speaking again. There... there was more???
The apprentice visibly relaxed a little bit. Oh, okay. Some... some stuff! Ooh, he better remember this. Shell, feather, flower. Yeah. Shell, feather, flower. Shell, feather, flower. Okay. Okay! Nice. He was about to turn around again, when... again, his mentor’s voice pierced his ears.
An... an ambush?? Him, AMBUSH? Ambush THEM? Fighting? He was almost panicked when — claws in. Claws. In. Thank. The. Stars. Whew. He was okay enough with his fighting skills to not be as worried. Okay. With one last glance at Sassafras, and a nervous nod and smile, he turned around and walked toward the river. Fish, fish, fish. Great.

Despite the predicament he was in, Eelsting found himself smiling as Mossygrove went along with his story. She seemed pretty focused on freeing him, which he was grateful enough for, but helping him save his ego even a little bit seemed like an even nicer thing to do. He chuckled wryly as the other warrior agreed that his fake fight was manly and plucked at a stick that he could reach, tossing it away. Her apology for the slight tug was met with a poorly concealed wince but somehow his big mouth remained perfectly functional.
“Yes, you get it! I was horribly out matched- it’s only unfortunate that I wasn’t able to chase those brutes off. I’d hate to see any problems coming from them- did I mention they were really big? Cause they definitely were.”
His tone was nearly sarcastic by now since he knew that his story could hardly get less believable. At least Mossygrove wasn’t questioning what the real story was! He braced to be pulled free but seemed a little extra snagged. No problem, he’d simply push himself forward as Mossygrove pulled and he’d be free!
Well, he was free alright, but Eelsting ended up putting a bit too much power into his push and the clumsy warrior now found himself launching from the bush at an unfortunate speed.

They reached the river in good time, and the sun was still high in the sky as Mossygrove took a seat on the bank. She looked at the warrior, hoping he would speak first and have something to teach her. She was admittedly afraid to start a conversation with him, so she'd let him lead in the hunting for now.

Mossygrove let out a yowl of surprise when the warrior launched from the bush and bowled her over on his way. Standing up and forcing her fluffy pelt to lay flat, she couldn't help but utter some nervous and amused laughter. She didn't really care what the real story was here, as it was likely far less amusing as what Eelsting was saying. He probably just tripped and fell, she knew that much. But going along with the rogue story was much more fun.
"Well, we ought to report those rogues to Sootstar, shouldn't we?" She gave him a sideways grin, testing his honesty a little in a humorous way. He of course didn't seem deceitful or anything, just...a tom telling a tale. There was no harm in it at all. "Or should we go chase them down ourselves, so Sootstar has nothing to worry about?"

Re: RiverClan Territory

Leave it to Eelsting to thank a cat for helping him by smashing directly into her and sending them both tumbling. The sleek smoke tom shook his head comically to stop it from buzzing and looked up sheepishly at poor Mossygrove who looked little better than he at this point. Pulling himself up from the ground and picking embarrassedly at the left over twigs stuck to his fur, Eelsting offered a paw to help her up if she wanted it.
“Sorry about that! Guess you just don’t know your own strength, huh?”
His grey-green eyes twinkled teasingly and he let out a laugh to match Mossygrove’s. Her suggestion that they tell Sootstar about the rogues gave him a momentary pause and sent his crooked grin faltering, but Eelsting recovered quickly enough to realize she was teasing. Thank the stars- it would have been a nightmare trying to get out of that one.
“Oh we should definitely track them down! Surely he’ll be tremendously impressed when we hand him three scruffy rogue pelts! No need to worry him about them while they’re still on the lamb!”
