Dreamkit stared around in silence. She never liked to go to sleep. Dreams always haunted her. But this time, she was willing to try. She curled up in a ball and put her tail over her nose. She drifted into a light sleep. Nightmares haunted her and when she finally awoke, she found it had only been a couple hours.

Milkkit pouted. No one was paying any attention to him! He looked over his shoulder at his mother and Galekit, throwing him off balance. The white kit flopped over on his side and stared at his mother with adoration, letting out a small mewl to try and get her attention. He'd been sitting up! For like three seconds, but still!

"Come on, Dreamkit. You need to lay back down. You didn't get any sleep at all last night," Merryflame mewed softly.

"Fine, mom," Dreamkit said, grumpily as she curled up into a ball next to her mother. She wasn't tired, and pretended to sleep instead.

Re: WindClan Breezerock
[ @Arie @spade ]
Stag and another young warrior whom Rushingmoor recognized as Basilwhisker were humming beside him and it seemed to be calming his son so he didn’t intervene. Instead, Rush ran his tail soothingly up and down Stagleech’s back and watched Dawnstar with a hawk’s eyes. His mind roiled like a hurricane but could not come up with a better way to save Twi than to humor Dawnstar for now. They were stuck tightly between their wish to eviscerate the pompous windbag and their wish to save Twilight. At least Rushingmoor was.
It took him a moment to register what Dawnstar was doing to that kit but it had him lunging forward with a tremendous snarl. He only made it a few pawsteps before it became clear that the child was dead and Dawnstar was too far to intercept. There were few things as horrifying as the murder of a kit, though Rushingmoor had thought he could never feel more horror after finding out that his two only friends had met their demise at Dawnstar’s paws- though Twilight had an unknown amount of lives left.
The warrior wanted to collapse but stood strong for Stagleech as he returned to the young tom. Where was Twiggy? Stag didn’t want to know. Rushingmoor fought against himself as he tried to decide whether to tell Stagleech the truth or offer him some peace of mind that now escaped him himself.
“Twilight has been kidnapped by Dawnstar. We don’t know where she is, but she is alive, Stagleech. We will get her back- I promise you. I don’t know how long it will take but no matter what happens, know that I love you and so does Twilight.”
Mushy placed his forehead on Stag’s trying to offer some parental comfort though he had little to give. Lifting up again, he said his eyes to Basilwhisker.
“Basilwhisker, can you stay with him? I need to talk with Coldamber.”

Fawnbriar’s suggestion had reached Rushingmoor’s ears too somehow and the striped tom knew that if any cat would be discussing Twilight’s rescue, he would be there too. Rush walked swiftly over to Coldamber, faltering only when he got close enough to the deceased kit to recognize him as Breezefeather’s son. A choked feeling crept up his throat for the first time since hearing of his close friend’s death and coparent’s kidnapping and torture. He hadn’t been able to feel the emotion through the shock but seeing Breeze’s son lay dead after everything that had happened to the deputy already? He almost couldn’t hold it in. Stars, would Breezefeather never catch a break even in death?
But he had to keep going so Rushingmoor turned away and finished his journey to Coldamber. Meeting her eyes with his hollow golden ones, the striped warrior paused for a moment before speaking in a voice that held no hint of weakness. Everything emotional had been locked up deep within him during the last few pawsteps away from Thunderkit and he was all business now. Emotions had no place in a disaster such as this.
“I heard that you may be discussing the situation in private. I will come.”
He didn’t bother asking though Coldamber was the one in charge, being the last remaining high rank aside from Snailswirl. Rushingmoor’s relationships both with Twilight and Breezefeather spoke for themselves and he would not stay away from such a discussion even if she asked him to.

Littlepaw’s voice barely registered in Otterberry’s ear as she reeled from the devastating of Breezefeather’s death. Nothing in all of her 55 moons had hit her as hard as this but even now in this time of great grief she had to be strong. She had Littlepaw to think of. And so, straightening herself with every last ounce of strength she had, Otterberry clutched her son close to her. She held him only for a moment and then let go, stepping away to look at him with hard eyes. She would break down later but he needed strength from her in this moment. Otterberry had known that she needed to let her son fly on his own wings once they reached Windclan but had been reluctant to relinquish her role in babying him. In the throes of this disaster, though, she knew her strength would not be enough to shield him. Littlepaw would need to fight for himself.
“I know you are scared, Littlepaw... I am too. This was not what I wanted for you when we came here but we are here now and I cannot abandon my birthright again... not now. My son, I love you more than life itself but I cannot shield you from the effects of this day. You are stronger than you know! I will always be here for you my little love, but I want for you to grow your roots in this clan like I never could. Train well with Seedheart and be the strong young cat I know you are. You will be okay... even when I depart this world.”
Of course Otterberry would always fight for her son and protect him but she would be gone one day and she needed to know that he had a solid foundation to fall back on and the will to protect himself. Thus far she had separated them somewhat from the rest of the clan but she could no longer do that. She had to let Littlepaw pull away from her enough to connect with and grow in the clan for his own safety and his own fulfillment in life. She had to give him what she had lacked.
Licking him swiftly on the forehead, Otterberry moved to stand beside him once more so she could watch the end of the tragic meeting. All she succeeded in doing was catching the death of the kit. Otter winced and felt tears pick her eyes but stayed back. It wasn’t for another moment that she recognized the little kit as the one she’d seen playing with Breezefeather and her heart squeezed. Thunderkit, he was called. Breezefeather’s son. Tears began to flow openly and she murmured to Littlepaw that she would check on him later and that she loved him before she stepped away. If she could not bury her best friend than at least she could bury his son
Otterberry walked up to the unfamiliar queen who held Thunderkit’s body and spoke somberly to her.
“I wonder if I might help you in burying him? I... I will not be able to sit vigil or bury the body of my best friend but i want to see to it that his son receives both.” [ @paradise ]

Cloverkit bounced around the nursery happily. She wondered what she should do. Maybe she could go get more rocks.

As Fawnbriar made her way back towards Hallowstep, a queen stopped in front of her and asked if she could help bury him. Bury him... A bolt of guilt shot through Fawnbriar. She hadn't even thought about that. She'd just wanted to get Thunderkit out of the way of all the traffic. "Oh, um, of course," she said, shaking her head to clear her thoughts.
Apparently the queen had been best friends with the deputy. That made sense. Fawnbriar had really only spoken to the kit a couple times. "I just have to, uh- talk with Coldamber. Do you think we can do it after the meeting?" she asked, hoping she didn't sound terribly insensitive.
