Venompaw looked up to Shrewstep and nodded, “I’ll be careful, brother. Don’t you worry about that.” He mewed before turning to Dawnstar once more.

Dawnstar took in the group of cats that gathered at the foot of Shadowledge. It was small but should be able to handle the pack of dogs without too much trouble. Ignoring a certain mongrel's stupid jabs, her eyes flashed over to Nightfur who seemed to think that she was deaf.

"Nightfur," Dawnstar narrowed her eyes the cat. "Since I am not deaf, it sounds like you two just volunteered to be bait, thank you. ShadowClan will honor your bravery. Larkwing, I must ask, where in StarClan's name have you been? I haven't seen you around here in at least a moon." The words sounded insulting even to her ears. If they were going to badmouth her, she prefers they did it to her face. Cats who didn't have the guts to face her were dung. They sat there and complained about everything she did but didn't actually want to do anything to change it. They just kept whining instead. Sniveling cowards, just like the rest of them. Besides that, Dawnstar had no recollection of allowing Larkwing back into ShadowClan.

"I'll be splitting you into four groups, two for a frontal ambush and two more to come in behind. Unfortunately, I've only seen this pack during the day, so we won't be able to use the night to our advantage. Not that that would be a possibility anyway, so many of you can barely see your tails in the dark." Scorn could be heard harsh and crude in Dawnstar's voice. Too many got far too used to relying on the light, only a few could actually prowl through the darkness like an actual ShadowClanner.... that reminded her to make sure to take Badgerpaw and her mutt out for night time lessons, she'd prefer they not be as great a disappointment as everyone else in the clan.

"Since Nightfur has so kindly volunteered, their job will be to play the rabbit and have the pack of dogs chase them. I need two more cats, quick on their paws, as a backup." Dawnstar's plans would be ruined if one of them happened to lag and get caught by the hunting dogs. "You'll most likely find the pack somewhere around the Mourning Ruins, what I need to be done is them brought from the Mourning Ruins into Icy Heartlands and to the Broken Boulder there, from there four ambush patrols will box them in and... well I'd rather have the all dead, I suppose shredding them would be enough." The clan leader pout mildly to herself, she really did want all the dogs dead, prey thieves deserve no mercy, but again very few lacked the same lust for violence and death as she did so she was expecting some of the dogs to get away alive. "The territory is the densest there and there are more than enough places to hide four patrols of cats." Dawnstar perked both ears to see if there were any volunteers to play bait alongside Nightfur. She needed two faster cats and since she wasn't certain about her clanmates speed, besides the coward, the other two she'd like to make sure they were fast enough to keep the pack coming.

Dawnstar sighed, she'd have to break this up into parts so everyone knew what their jobs were. First, the runners.

(FYI I am making up mini landmarks as I go along, whether these became a thing or not is to be seen)

Cloudheart was surprised that his sister was volunteering to do that. But, she was surprising him a lot. He wasn't going to run, though. He was going to fight. Maybe Skyleap was going to be bait so she didn't have to fight. Interesting.

" I'll be the bait too! Said Moonpaw, stepping forward. She was willing to die for shadowclan, and that loyalty and Determination burned in her eyes like a fire, shining and sparking for all to see.

Smokepaw looked down at his short legs. He wouldn’t be able to outrun those dogs to save his life.

Whitepaw looked up at Dawnstar. “I’ll volunteer as a backup.” Whitepaw meowed.

Great, Dapplecloud wouldn’t have to volunteer to be a backup. She wanted to fight.

Embershadow flicked his ears, acknowledging Dawnstar's comments but choosing not to reply or think about them. Right now, his duty was to protect his Clan against the dogs. He opened his mouth to volunteer as a runner, but hesitated when a few others called out first. He closed his jaws and sat down. He would be happy to serve his Clan however Dawnstar saw fit.

She had to be joking. Of course she'd make him bait. Nightfur felt a hot wave of embarrassment come over him for being found out, but he wondered how much he could show Larkwing just how brave he really was with this, if he survived. He smirked. Of course he would survive. He yowled, hoping his Clanmates were still listening; "You all better honor me when Dawnstar's finally gone. Think of this as proof of who can lead this Clan better." The thought of being Leader gave him a rush, and he gave Dawnstar a confident look. "Being bait sounds great to me."

He couldn't stop his eyes from glancing at Larkwing, though. They were both made bait, weren't they? StarClan help him! What if she got hurt? He then thought better of it. Larkwing was a feisty she-cat, she wouldn't let some dogs gets the better of her. Plus they'd be together, and together he couldn't think of anything that could get in their way. For once he wasn't shying away from this, which made him feel powerful in a way.

Badgerpaw would rather fight then be a stupid runner. If those cats weren't fast enough to where the dogs get them they just proved how weak they are. He wanted to rip one of their throats out like he had twice already to two rogues; his brother and that helpless one he attacked. Oh and that molly he thought was his mother in which he tore her throat out as well.

Hopepelt would rather fight. Possibly the frontal ambush? Really, she didn't care as long as the dogs stopped hunting on ShadowClan territory. As long as that happened, it was a win in her book.
