Berrystorm nodded, taking a few pawsteps forward. ''When hunting, you're out in the open. The first thing you do is take a look at the sky and make sure that there are no predatory birds---buzzards, eagles, hawks---around,'' the warrior instructed. ''Then you make sure that your prey's scent is flowing towards you and not the other way around. It's very important to remain downstream.''

''Try to catch the rabbit. I want to see how your thinking process works whenever it comes to hunting.''

Catch a rabbit? She thought. How was she going to do that? She shrugged, and spotted a rabbit, nibbling on some grass.

She perked up, excited, and raced after the rabbit as it spotted her and ran away. It shot down a hole, and disappeared. Emberpaw slumped, and suddenly started to worry. Now I've done it! How could I mess up like that? She looked up at Berrystorm, ashamed. S-sorry... She mumbled. Do you want me to try again? I'm sure I'll get it eventually! I promise!

''It's okay. Not every apprentice gets it on their first try,'' Berrystorm reassured Emberpaw, her gaze soft. ''Let's try for something easier. What else can you detect?''

Emberpaw sniffed again. Well... She muttered. I think I smell a mouse... She looked around, wondering where it was. But... where is it?

Berrystorm frowned. They weren't far from Sunset Grove. She glanced around, her eyes narrowing. ''Look over there,'' she mewed, gesturing to the rustling heather nearby. ''Maybe it's hiding behind that heather. Just be careful, and make sure that your pawsteps are light and airy. Oh, and don't step on anything---twigs, sticks, even frozen pieces of grass or heather---because mice can feel vibrations throughout the earth. That's due to their small size.''

Emberpaw nodded carefully, and slowly stalked over to the direction of the smell. She spotted the tiny creature, and her stomach fluttered with excitement.

She stalked closer and closer until she was sure that she would catch it. Emberpaw then prepared for the pounce, and let on the mouse, slamming a paw on its tail so it couldn't escape. Then, she bit the back of its neck, and watched as it went limp. She purred. How was that? She mewed with the mouse in her jaws. @kira

Pride fluttered in Berrystorm's chest. Emberpaw's first catch! That she knew of, at least.

''Nice catch!'' Berrystorm exclaimed, touching her maw to Emberpaw's head. ''Thank StarClan for its life. That mouse died to feed us. Then bury it and we'll come back for it later. We'll hunt a little longer and see if we can find something else.''

Emberpaw nodded, and after thanking StarClan like her mentor said, she buried the mouse, and followed her mentor. @kira

Berrystorm led the way into Sunset Grove, her tail swaying behind her. ''Here we are; Sunset Grove. We can hunt forest prey if moorland prey goes to ground, though some warriors say that the trees give them claustrophobia,'' she meowed. ''Prey scent. What can you detect, Emberpaw?''
