Windstrike watched as the apprentice seemingly went for his underfur, prepared to send him flying below him, until being thrown off by him pouncing at his side. It knocked him off balance for a moment as he struggled to turn towards the tom clinging to his side, barely avoiding getting kicked in the face. This was actually really resourceful, because of his small size it was practically like being backed up against a cliffside, unable to turn and run. All he could do at the moment was throw paws in his general direction, hoping to hit him at least once to knock him off before his eyes flew open in realization.

Rolling over as if getting comfortable in some moss, the tom's smirk returned to his face as he hoped to squash the smaller feline under his weight so he'd let go at least. If he got lucky, he could quickly flip over and pin the apprentice to get the upper hand. It was all about thinking ahead, also he absolutely despised how exposed his underside was at this moment. If Shrikepaw was smart enough to escape from under him he could easily land a blow if he wasn't up fast enough. Luckily, he wasn't named Windstrike for just any reason. Attempting to force the apprentice to release his pelt, he wriggled a bit, trying not to come too close to the edge of the cliff, though it would be quite funny to watch the tom go tumbling down the side.

"You're stuck under a warrior, what do you do? Can't be suffocated down there, can you?"

Not right now... she needed to teach him how to defend himself so that such a thing as what happened likely would not happen again, or at least so that the likeliness that he would lose an eye would not happen. "We're going... to be working... on the offensive. I want... you to attack... me. Come.. at me... Buzzard."

He felt as if he couldn't shift his gaze from the sky. He couldn't... or else. WHich is why the feeling of his mentor's tail around him startled him. It startled him so much that he jumped into the air and yelped. Oh, oh Stars. That was... embarrassing. With another quick glance at the cloudy sky, he spoke. Well, stuttered, "I, I'm--!" he couldn't even get two words out before the tabby cat pulled him into a hug. He didn't know what was going on until she began to let go. Her embrace, though a little bristly, had felt nice... but he didn't want to be clingy or anything. So, regretfully, he stepped back as Doetuft did. And now,, attack her? Um, uh. O...kay. WIth a nod and one last desperate glance upward, he leapt forward. He was aiming for her side, maybe even to knowck her over. Or something. He... didn't know.

He was acting more strange than he usually did and Doetuft couldn't exactly place what it was that unnerved her apprentice so much. Well the hug had unnerved him, she was aware of that but what else she didn't know, but what she did know was that he did want to talk to her after this training and well... she wanted to go over it with him too. It was vital to talk about these things and they'd never gotten an actual opportunity to do so. So she was going to take that as soon as she'd worked him up and through and, of course, kicked his ass a few times. He was going to face Dawnstar eventually but that would hopefully be in a long while first. It was hard to work the body while the mind was somewhere else, she knew that herself all too well. Yet squaring her shoulders, she listened to his pawsteps and managed to step to the side avoiding him, and aiming to lift a paw up that would proceed to send him tumbling over and into the sand. "Faster... Buzzardpaw... faster." He had to focus on his ability to react, it could save his life potentially.

Burningspark sat near the cliffs. He wasn't stupid enough to do the training by the edge, but maybe it wouldn't have been a bad idea. Test their skills and reflexes but... if one of the apprentices got hurt or died, Burningspark would again be taking the blame for their incompetence, and that's what got him here in the first place. He wasn't ready to die for being stupid or having stupid apprentices. "Alrighty then, I believe we're all here." His voice dripped with disappointment, not at them for being timely, but simply at them for being there. He didn't like social interaction, much less with a bunch of bouncy ignorant furballs. However, keeping his conversation with Doetuft in mind, he sighed and managed to not look too grumpy. "What do you all know?" The dark russet tom asked, his gold eyes cutting to each apprentice. "And Fadedpaw, I know you don't know anything yet. We haven't gotten there in your training, but this can count as your first sparring training." He turned to his apprentice with a disinterested flick of his burnt ear before turning to the other two.

The tabby cat grabbed at... nothing. He was left empty pawed, and could only watch as her paw swung towards him. Her words echoed in his ears. Faster. He only barely managed to duck, as her paw disturbed the fur atop his head. Nope... nope. Nevermind. It had caught on his side, sending him into the soil and sand. Blegh. He desperately spat out grit and dirt, Leaping to his paws. With a desperate cry, he dove forward, trying to catch his mentor by surprise. He hoped he’d gotten up fast enough and maybe even startled her with his cry. Or, just got lucky. Either way, he wanted to knock her aside. Get the upper paw. Or something.

“My mentor took me battle training once and I practiced as a kit so I know some things,”Marigoldpaw mewed eager to start training. Oh man this is going to be fun! I can’t wait to reck someone!

Burningspark gave all three of them disapproving glares. He didn't like the anger radiating off of Fadedpaw but he was more annoyed neither of the other two apprentices had much more experience. Letting out an exasperated sigh, he rumbled, "So basically you all don't know much." He flicked his tail and looked them over before started "Alright then, our first move will be with claws sheathed. It will be a leap and hold kind of move. One of you will spring onto my back and bat at me with your paws - make sure your claws are sheathed or I will send all three of you to the medicine den - while the other two should try and attack me from bot sides." He explained.

Listening to Adderfang's explanation of how he should push up and roll his shoulders, and about how thrashing didn't really work, Shrewpaw wiggled his shoulders experimentally. There might be one obvious flaw with this plan, when the cat pinning you was about twice as heavy as you were, but he might as well give it a shot. Maybe he'd get really lucky and only get sat on by a tiny apprentice? Bending his front legs under is chest, he pushed up in what he thought was a fairly sudden motion, except Adderfang weighted A LOT. Turning his really fast push up into more of shakey, staggery stretch. Oops. He'd have to work on getting stronger if he was actually going to pull this one off quickly. Still, he was now almost halfway up, so he tried to roll his shoulders, thinking wave. HE WAS A WAVE! HE WAS A WAVE! And repeating that to himself over and over did help, his motion becoming a bit more fluid, although he was fairly certain Adderfang was still up there, judging by how much his legs were shaking, holding up the weight. So, not wanting to have to flop back down and try again, the small apprentice dropped his left shoulder, hoping she would just.....skid off. Although that might not work. He wasn't sure what he was supposed to do when his opponent weighed about a ton, but he was giving it a shot. @Rani

Adderfang grunted as she increasingly struggled to keep her grip on the apprentice in the face of the rolling movements, though she still didn’t let go. Shrewpaw would have to work for it but as he suddenly dropped his shoulder with how unstable she already was Adderfangs paws just skidded of the younger toms back and he was freed from her grasp. “Good job that kind of unpredictability is good in fights, it’ll be a boon in the future. I guess thats the second pin escape down, if that doesn’t work in battle you can ram the back of your head into them too the shock of the impact can sometimes buy you some wiggle room or space. Do you want to practice either of those pins and escapes again of do you want to move on to special moves or a spar straight away?” The warrior asked stepping back to give the apprentice some space.
