For once, the Abyssinian spotted a clanmate wandering the clearing aimlessly rather than being the one to walk around himself. "Heya, Wildfire!" Lionpaw called, quickly making his way towards the other cat. "How've you been?"
Wildfire looked up "who? me? I'm fine I guess how 'bout you?" The red she-cat said quickly
Awakening from a strange dream about flying rats, Dustwing momentarily forgot where he was... until he remembered.
“Poppycloud?” He croaked, opening his eyes, “The birds are quite loud today, eh?”
The old tom heaved himself to his paws, his ragged yellow fur matted with sleep. As he shook out his pelt, his “wings” flopped against his side, he scowled,
“What’s the use of having these if I can’t fly?” He harrumphed, asking the question he asked every morning without fail, “Seriously though.”
Even in her half-asleep state, the elderly tortoiseshell laying beside Dustwing could feel the edges of her pale jade eyes crinkling with a warm sort of mirth, taking part in the simplest of pleasures just by listening to her mate's voice. "You might not be able to fly beloved, but I swear your imagination soars at a height no bird could ever dream of reaching." Poppycloud purred sagely, her voice deepened by time and crackly like her own bones, which began to play a symphony of pops and cracks as she slid into a relaxing stretch, picking herself up to stand beside Dustwing and rub her head against his fluffy cheek, eyes cast onto what little parts of the sky she could see from the den's entrance. "Well now, it seems we'll be treated to quite the pleasant day what with all these birds about, as loud as they are. Perhaps you can try your paw at becoming one with the flock?" Poppycloud mrrowed teasingly.

Dustwing purred with laughter as Poppycloud spoke,
“I’ll leave that to those younger cats, eh?” He licked her on the top of her head, “Anyway, if I flew off, who’d take care of you, my love?”
He too stretched and fluffed out his fur, “I’d much rather stay here in the den with you, despite the call of the sky.”

"And for that dear, I am grateful." A wide smile graced Poppycloud's muzzle, the very corners of her mouth framed by faint wrinkles. "So, now that I've tethered you to the ground with the rest of us flightless cats, how about we go and watch the clouds for a while? Maybe you could tell me more of your stories, hmm?" Her purrs rumbled deeply in her chest, filling her soul with pure joy.

Rapidkit raced across the clearing. Other kits talked about elders telling stories, and she wanted one! Her tangled fur flew wildly in the wind. She was almost there! It was so far! And there she was, after her long, long journey across the huge, dangerous camp, filled with big, tall cats to dodge so she didn’t get crushed. She stopped abruptly in front of two elders. “I want a story!” she demanded in a tiny, shrill voice. She didn’t care that those two were talking! @Willowfern (not sure if I should mention @Peachblossom or not, lol if you want tho I can save this until later instead)
“Of course,” Dustwing smiled, rubbing himself against her, just as he was about to open his mouth to say more, a kit burst into the den.
“Whoa whoa, Tiger!” Dustwing chuckled, rolling his eyes at the youngster’s enthusiasm, “I’ll tell you a story if you say please,” He wasn’t going to reprimand this little one, she was just excited.
He turned back to Poppycloud, “Eh, looks like cloud watching will have to wait, eh?”

"Well I suppose so!" Poppycloud laughed softly at the young one's wide eyes and tangled mess of fluff. The firebrand of a kit's name certainly held truth it seemed, she hadn't even a moment to realize who the blur of fur was until they began squeaking for a story. The sight made her smile softly, reminding her of times long past when she herself had taken Rapidkit's place, with eyes full of wonder bright on her face.

Her name was not Tiger! It was Rapidkit! She was about to tell that elder and show him to call her something she wasn’t, but he already moved on. Like that! But she did want a story, so she said, “Please! Now can I have a st- ory!” There was the voice thing again! Where did it come from? She always did the voice thingy, and it was so annoying! Her word broke! And she didn’t even do anything to it! Her friends laughed when she did the voice thingy, but it wasn’t funny! @Willowfern @Peachblossom
“Alright alright!” Dustwing smiled, “Don’t rush this old cat!” He let out a mrrow of laughter.
He sat down with a huff and flopped onto his side shortly after that, searching for a comfortable position,
“Okay then!” He meowed, motioning for Driftkit to sit, “I have a few stories, but I’ll let you choose... the story about the hawk, or that one time I went fishing?”
Dustwing chuckled at both memories, “Both are pretty funny, but you can choose, eh?”

"Several Clanmates have come home after wandering off. I'm pleased to welcome back Hailstride, Icepaw, Sheepkit, Leafkit, and Smokekit. I'll be taking Icepaw on as my apprentice again." Buckstar figured it wouldn't be too hard to manage two cats.
"And, once again, mentor reassignments are in order. It seems that some cats think it's okay to vanish without a trace whenever they see fit, and leave their apprentices behind. I hope your next mentors will do better."
"Valleypaw [ @Zero ], you seem to have had some awful luck with mentors as of late. I'm reassigning you to Hailstride [ @Arie ]. She's a powerful warrior, and I trust her with my life. I know she'll do well."
"Riverpaw [ @feather lily ], I'm assigning you to Sunstripe [ @Exis ]."
"And, Forestpaw [ @Wolfgirl8 ], Sloefrost [ @RedSquirrel ] will be your new mentor."
"This meeting is dismissed."
He jumped down from his post and scanned the crowd for a moment. "Lightningstrike and Swiftskip, I'd like to speak with both of you in my den please."
With a flick of his tail, he slipped into his den.
I wonder if one of those new cats will be my mentor... and I heard about the leaderless WindClan, maybe... maybe he went back... Maybe my will to! Those she said it hopefully she knew it was hopeless. Dawnkit murmers why... why did you leave me mom...
