"Nope , never had one before actually." he answered with a shake of his head. He was still pretty young and inexperienced , so it didn't surprise him that much. But he hoped he'd get an apprentice-- maybe when the kits became apprentices , they'd be assigned as his apprentice. "Ah! But I'm still going to teach them things so they can be the best version of themselves!" sprigcloud said with a hearty laugh. Technically , you didn't have to be a mentor to teach the other apprentices things.

He wondered if Gentlefoot ever had an apprentice. "Have you ever had an apprentice , Gentlefoot?" he inquired , curiosity blooming in his tone. He assumed she probably had one , but he wasn't sure.

Gentlefoot glanced down at the kit. "No, I'm sorry," she told him gently. She looked back at Sprigcloud and answered, "I'm training my first one now-Reedpaw. He's really sweet and eager to learn." She smiled at Riverkit. "I bet you'll be an apprentice soon, too."

The arrival of riverkit caught sprigclouds attention , the kits words jabbing at his heart. "Reedpaw sounds wonderful. I bet it's a bit of a rocky path though since he's your first apprentice." he commented. Nobody was perfect when teaching their apprentices , but he was sure being assigned your first apprentice would be a bumpy road. Whether it was the new mentor or the freshly made apprentice , someone was bound to make a mistake. The tabby looked to riverkit , nodding in agreement with Gentlefoots words. "Gentlefoot is right. I'm sure you'll find your mom soon too , little buddy." He said in a reassuring tone.

"That's great then! Glad that mentoring him is easy for you." he laughed , though upon hearing riverkits answer . he frowned slightly. Poor thing. Had his mom disappeared from riverclan or possibly even died? Sprigcloud glanced over to gentlefoot with sad , sympathetic eyes. He'd look back to riverkit , patting the kit on the back lightly with his paw. "Don't get so down , riverkit. You know what? Your mom is probably lost , it's very easy to get lost , especially if you leave the territory. It's huge." he told. He didn't want the poor kit to be hopeless , thinking his mother would never come back even though that was a possibility. Someone as young as him didn't deserve something like that.

"When you're an apprentice , I could take you out into the territory to look for your mom. I'm sure gentlefoot wouldn't mind taking you out when you're an apprentice , either." he said. Hopefully that would cheer up the kit and give him some hope , at least a little bit. It hurt sprigclouds heart to see such a sad sight. "In fact! I bet she's waiting for you to find her , isn't that right gentlefoot?" he expressed with a nod.

Gentlefoot nodded. "She'll be so happy when you find her," she told Riverkit encouragingly. "And Sprigcloud and I can help you look." Her heart ached for the poor kit-perhaps he would never know his mom. But there was always a chance. And she intended to make sure Riverkit never lost hope.

Sprigcloud nodded to confirm gentlefoots words , a smile growing as riverkit notably cheered up. "Yep! We'll take you out into the territory as often as you want when you're an apprentice." he smiled , "Might even take you to the beach. When you find your mother , she'll be so proud of you." he chimed. If riverkit couldn't find his mother in the future , which was certainly a possibility ( and the bigger one ) , he knew the young cat would be sad. Assuming that would happen , sprigcloud planned on taking him to the beach when he was an older apprentice. "But be warned , there's crabs at the beach. They'll pinch you if you get too close!" he warned in a light hearted tone.
