(NO SUSPENSE! NOT ALLOWED!)
Thornpaw was.......not feeling well. The cobwebs had undoubtedly stopped her from bleeding out, but that was all they could do. They couldn't feed her, or quench her thirst, which after two days in the tunnel were very large problems. Especially the food. She could survive for up to a week without water, but three or four days without food, and she would likely die. Or at the very least, many of her organs would begin to shut down. So, on the third day, she decided to try and escape.
Struggling to stand in her weakened state, she stumbled to the wall, and began scratching at the earth. After an hour, she had scratched out a rough hole in the wall, and heaved herself, accompanied by much pain in her leg, into it. From there, she clawed out more dirt, until she at last heaved herself into the sun. Dazzled by the light, she stood quavering for a minute, before setting off weakly towards what she supposed was camp. Still hobbling on three legs, she didn't move very quickly, and she had to stop and rest often.
While in the hole, she had managed to push the bone back into her flesh, the pain knocking her out again. She figured by now it was beginning to heal, but decided not to test it. Better to be safe than break it AGAIN.
Some time later, night had fallen, and she hadn't reached any landmarks, despite several more hours of toil. Knowing it would be foolish to continue, Thornpaw lay down beneath a bush. With any luck, it would collect some dew, and she would be able to take a drink in the morning. But food was even more pressing. She could hear prey scuttling near her, but she knew she couldn't catch it. She could barely walk, let alone pounce or run! So, she lay there, and finally drifted off to sleep.
When she awakened, the dew was on the bush, and she eagerly lapped it up. Her thirst somewhat satiated, she continued on at her slow, staggering pace, even weaker than before. Suddenly, a rush of wind hit her, driving her into a bush. Dazed, she crept out the other side, and flinched back. A huge thunderpath lay stretched before her, shimmering in the glare of the lights. She knew now she had gone the wrong way. She had never heard mention of this place before, not ever. Then, she saw something. In the center of the hard, black stone, lay a rabbit. Not immediately recognizable, for it had been run over many times, but a rabbit.
Well, only one thing to do. Go get it. Thankfully, the monsters weren't busy that morning, so Thornpaw was able to drag it back to the bush, and eat. Not that it was a great meal. By most standards. But not having eaten for four days, it was delicious. Sure it was smoked and dirt caked, but who cared? It was FOOD! After her meal, she turned, and made her shaky way back towards what she hoped was Windclan territory. By the time she reached her hole again, two days had passed, and she was feeling remarkably better.
She had managed to catch a starling with a broken wing, and she had found a small puddle after a heavy rain. Her leg had also begun to be healed in the six days since she broke it, and so she walked with less of a limp now. It was incorrectly set, so her motion was off, rocking her from side to side as she moved, but she could walk. Her sides also had some very impressive scars on them, stretching as she moved. Suddenly, she stiffened. On the wind, she caught the scent of her mentor. She took a chance, and called out
Yewswipe? Are you there? @
