Ashpaw sat down in a corner of the clearing, clearly deep in thought.
They were sitting underneath some shady bushes — a more secluded area. They didn’t know why, but it reminded them of outside the camp.
Ashpaw missed being out there when they were much younger.
Ashpaw missed lots of things — their sister, the old den.. their mother.

It didn’t bother them now, of course! Why would others think that? They didn’t even know them! Ugh, everyone was always so nosy. Mousebrains.

Despite their seemingly rude demeanor, they were genuinely happy to be able to leave camp without high rank permission.

Though, it didn’t help that they didn’t have anyone to go with.

Well, it was fine. As soon as those owls were dealt with, the amazing Ashpaw was back in business and ready to train!

... Ah, no more awkward silence. And a normal question was thrown at him. That was good.

"4 Moons... I don't really look as old as I actually am." he shrugged again, letting out a light huff of laughter. He flicked his tail against the ground, his awkward paw shuffling stopping.

The Dancing Bird

The tom had been idly sunning himself before being confronted by a rather gory smile from Magpiepaw. He was fond of her and he found his usually stern expression melted away quite quickly. Admirable determination and a knack for battle, much akin to himself.

”Magpiepaw, it’s been a while.” A smirk played on his lips as the hyperactive youngster threw herself this way and that. ”I’m a father now I suppose, how’ve you been?” He was curious, he hadn’t seen much of her lately. Then again he was busy running around and dealing with the chaos the rats had presented.

Midnightpaw sat around, tired and restless. They were plain out bored. Hmm there must be something they could do. The apprentice looked around before deciding to go see the kits in the nursery. They seemed to always know something fun to do.

After another training session, Silentpaw was ready to sleep for a hundred moons straight. He started to b-line towards the Apprentices Den, before pausing in his tracks and completely changing his route. He'd stop by the fresh-kill pile, snatch something and eat, and then go to the Apprentices' Den to rest his limbs. Great idea. Perfect idea, really.

The multicoloured apprentice grabbed a fresh squirrel from the pile and as he turned his eyes caught a bundle of fur that stopped his heart for a second. Black fur and copper eyes.
...
But no. It wasn't Shadepaw. It was someone else. Dammit, why did some cats have to look so similar? He shot the black-furred apprentice a strange, unreadable look before heading to his own place in the clearing, setting the squirrel down. It would be too annoying to eat outside the Apprentices' Den. Way too crowded and way to many cats trying to steal his food.

Noticing Silentpaw, Ashpaw’s eyes suddenly gained an unnerving glint.
Approaching Silentpaw, they nodded upwards sharply before sitting down beside him.
They hadn’t spoken to another cat their age for moons, but they thought it was probably a good idea to start talking to others soon.
“Ay.” Ashpaw meowed quickly to the other.

Ah, great. He should never have even looked in their direction in the first place. Suppressing a sigh, Silentpaw shifted slightly to glance at the newcomer, deadpan eyes looking over their dark pelt. It was scary how first glance, Silentpaw had thought it was Shadepaw. She really did a number on him. He then turned his gaze to look into the other's amber eyes, flicking an ear to hide his discomfort. What did they want from him? COuld he just flat out ignore them? That wouldn't be rude, would it?

Silentpaw subtly raised his eyebrows, waiting for the apprentice to say something because he sure as hell would not.

Despite their attempt at being cool, Ashpaw seriously began rethinking that entrance.
Maybe they should say something different now, Silentpaw seemed to not want to talk.
“So, how’s your training doing?” they queried with a somewhat friendly smirk.
There. That should do it.
Perfect. Just perfect.

Oooohkayy,, a question. A non-yes-or-no question. Something Silentpaw had dreaded his whole life. He provided the other apprentice with a small shrug and a nod of his head. What else could he possibly do to answer the question? Without speaking, of course. Hopefully this shadow twin didn't mind. This other shadow twin he'd met a couple moons back was INTOLERABLE. And apparently, he was intolerable to them as well, which he could care less about. But for now, this cat sitting beside him was the focus.

”Oh. Alright.” Ashpaw replied to Silentpaw’s shrug.
This.. wasn’t what they were expecting.
A cat who didn’t speak?
It wasn’t new to them, of course, but they hadn’t spoken to anyone like that but their sister. They hadn’t spoken to her in moons!
Ashpaw sighed.

They would have to make do.

“Okay, er.. like, is your mentor cool? Like, yeah or no? I don’t actually have a mentor right now, I mean I DO but yknow, stuff happened uh-“
Ashpaw suddenly realised they were rambling.
“Hah, uh.. just.. is your mentor cool or something?”
Great job, Ashpaw. Messed it all up!
They nervously looked at Silentpaw, eyes shifting away.
