Oh, look at that, they spoke! He blinked as they sat close to them. Oh, wait, he had to respond. Uh. Just a simple hello. "Hi!" They said warmly with a nod. Was that too enthusiastic? Maybe. Whatever. He'd look weirder if she didn't respond. They flicked their tail, bi-colored eyes scanning the cats face for any sign of dislike towards Starrypaw. Ugh, she needed to stop being so insecure.
It was a simple conversation. He grinned at them, pushing away the voice in his head.

A small smirk appeared on Ashpaw’s face.
This cat felt.. familiar. Not as if they’d met before, but Starrypaw reminded them of themself in a way.
“How’re you?” Ashpaw queried, looking away.
Just.
Keep.
Looking.
Cool.
Those were the words resounding in their mind.
Ashpaw felt compelled to listen.

The angst in this den is quite literally palpable. It seeps through the cracks and crevices, soaks into the nests as it radiates from every apprentice with something of a messed up mind, or day, or family, or circumstance. Cinderpaw has contributed to this gloom in her own way before. She doesn't want to contribute any more, though, she wants to be able to pick herself up out of any slump like water rolling off her shoulders. She doesn't want to mourn any more. She misses her mother, and her siblings, but family dies. That's life. She still has Wispypaw, and Birdecho, and Sleepysunrise, and Quillpaw, and Quietpaw, and papa. She has them, at least, and they will not leave her. She will scream and cry and beg and hang on with her claws for as long as she can if it means keeping them here, with her, safe. And the way she can do that is with her full name... a name she should be getting soon if all goes well. It's determination. It's fire. It's a desperate need for order and control.

Ok, this wasn't..er..was? He didn't know. It was getting easier, but at the same time it wasn't. "M'alright. What about you?" He responded, shrugging. He needed to talk to his mentor about socializing, because this was a pain in the ass. Starrypaw felt that he looked too disengaged laying down, so they sat up. He shuffled his paws, looking awkward

They paused.
What was that in the corner of the den?
They squinted at the corner, suddenly making out.. a white cat?
They weren’t a normal cat, though.
It looked.. out of place.
Was that.. a spirit?
Ashpaw blinked.
It was gone.
Odd. Meh, probably nothing.
They looked back at Starrypaw.
“My bad, just.. kinda. thought I saw something. Uh.. is your mentor cool?” They spoke calmly, trying to keep their cool.

➢ The Apprentice makes her way from the Clearing into the Apprentice Den, she wasn't used to the lower temperatures that leafbare brought. A shiver runs through her fur as they settle in one of the open nests. With so many Apprentices, Hollowpaw would've expected the den to be packed but she supposed it wasn't simply because everyone had different schedules with training, hm.

The white and black shecat turns a bit in her nest before finding her way into a loafing position, eyes also finding someone to stare at. Silentpaw. They had interacted once and that was at Sleepysunrise's training. Though Hollowpaw had no intention of keeping his company as a friend perhaps he was willing to talk? He didn't look tooo good at the meeting...especially at the mention of Foggymask's....death. The thought of it brought a numbness back to her paws, even in its faintest form it bothered her. Blue and amber eyes not leaving the grey and orange cat.

Just when he thought he'd have a peaceful rest of his day in the corner of the Apprentices' Den, he felt eyes on him. Oh great. What now? Letting out a soft, barely audible sigh, Silentpaw gently lifted his head from his paws and turned, eyes instantly meeting another apprentice's. Uh.

Silentpaw rapidly blinked, instantly tearing his gaze away. That was... Awkward. He was never going to do it again. Nope, nope. Why were they staring anyway? WHAT DID THEY WANT? ... It was probably nothing. Cats zone out all the time, and sometimes they end up staring at someone. He was probably overthinking. Hollowpaw - that was her name - and Silentpaw had never once spoken. They have definitely met at some point, one of those times being during Sleepysunrise's training session, and perhaps they saw each other once or twice around camp. But never once have they TALKED. Or anything. Strange.

No more RookFire as the medicine cat apprentice…that was truly a shame. He enjoyed the tom and his knowledge…his openness to teaching. What would have caused it? RookFire was doing a great job in his opinion…but this also meant something else. An o p p u r t u n i t y…

He hated that, that thought. Having hope bubble in him from another cat’s demotion- failure- perhaps disappointment and pain? And goodness, was he even capable of a route aside from warrior-hood? It felt so…wrong due to the way he was raised. No cat would want him healing them- goodness no! So why for once was his fear gone and replaced by some determined…feeling. It was wrong but it didn’t quite feel that way…

Starrypaw, confused, watched Ashpaw stare at the corner of the den. The apprentice began to open his mouth to ask if they were okay when they turned back, asking if her mentor was cool. Hm. Maybe. She hadn't interacted with her too much. Starrypaw blinked as he realized he wasn't answering. Oh. Yeah. "She seems cool, yeah. We haven't done much training." Starrypaw replied with a shrug, fluffy tail flicking. "Is, uh, yours? Your mentor, I mean." She asked curiously. That was a proper response, right?

Ashpaw still had the vision of the spirit stuck in their head. They would have to try and figure out what that was at some point.
But, now they had to answer another difficult question.
