For a face that had already fallen so far with her own unfortunate train of thought, how much further it seemed to drop was almost surprising. Time, it seemed, to tally off another instance where Shadowkit not being able to see her was probably ideal, at least considering how much worse he would likely feel if he could meet her pity-laden gaze.
Mushroomkit was different; Cedarsong did her utmost to hide any worry she had for his condition, recognizing clearly how the extent of the attention the kit received bothered him. It took a lot, but she had been able to put on a good face for him; swallowing any unhelpful or overbearing motherly instincts as best she could, as incredibly, incredibly difficult as it was to uphold for so long. Perhaps it was wrong to be relieved she didn’t have to do that now, but the molly truly doubted whether she’d even be able to.
“I’m sorry, love.” She felt a level of guilt, not being able to figure much else out to say- was that too simple? Insensitive, even?
It was useless to worry over that, but she did anyways. As much as Cedarsong should have infinite wisdom to give Shadowkit in terms of comfort, with such similar yet opposite situations, the dusty cat had figured out absolutely nothing to aid in dulling the feelings that came with losing kin. A few moons of fawning over other cats, other kits, finding duties she could obsess with each day to keep herself focused, distracted, productive- it did nothing but make her utterly unable to be alone or bear the thought of staying still long enough to process her grief. She ran on distractions alone. Was that what the kit was doing? The queen swallowed thickly, looking ahead without much idea what to do. Same thing as always, then?

Shadowkit glanced in Cedarsong's direction. Love? No- never. She wasn't allowed to call him that - and he would have objected in that moment, but he began to sense something wasn't right. So, when she asked about stupid stories, he involuntarily nodded. "I remember- one." he began hesitantly, taking a small step toward the creamy queen. "-Ish. About ShadowClan being evil and stuff." he shrugged. Why was he acting like such a- normal kit, all of a sudden? Using words like 'ish'? No- that wasn't him. But he did kind of want to hear a story- just one, really quick. If Cedarsong insisted. And she seemed to need it. Her voice almost sounded sad as she spoke. Like it kept hitching, or something. Shadowkit wasn't the most adept at emotional whatnot, but he could tell she needed something in this moment, and for whatever reason, he wanted to provide that 'something', if he could.

The tom couldn’t help but let out a small chuckle, finding the absurd hilarity in where the exchange seemed to be going. He certainly wouldn’t argue with that assessment, Tripleaf’s wording seemed fairly akin to what the warrior himself did his utmost to portray himself as- responsible, succinct, perhaps aloof if he was feeling especially grumpy or some such. Inside a cat’s mind rarely matched their outside, and a cynic or extremely judgemental tom Flintthroat was not, but hearing he came off as collected at the very least wasn’t something he was about to take negatively.
Combined with the slight relaxation after hearing his clanmate was, thankfully, not preparing to gossip about others and was rather just bluntly curious as to whether the tom was as critical as his demeanour suggested, the dark cat felt himself loosen a little in the situation. Tripleaf wasn’t his typical company, but he seemed harmless enough.
“I hear you, no worries. I can’t deny trying for that sort of impression, really.”

"Well, glad you're truthful about it. Some cats try to carry themselves on the outside differently then on the inside and just deny they have any other personality, so glad you aren't that type!" he said. "Also, I commend you for putting up with this! Most cats that have your outside persona cant handle my bubbliness!" he blabbed. "However, If I am annoying you please do not hesitate to say!"

Hazelstripe! he thought as a burst of inspiration came. "You're Hazelstripe right? Nice to meet you." he said. "I normally have more energy than this, but I was hanging with some kits the ENTIRE day!" he said emphatically.

"ugh, yes because they are really adorable but sometimes they can be quite the handfuls." he said."I'm not saying that from experience with my own kits, I just hang out with other ones." he said. "Its adorable, really how energetic and tiny they are."

She laughed. "Yes, kits do look like quite the handful." She replied. "So, *yawns* I could sleep forever out in this sun!" She said while shifting from the shade slightly more in the sun. "Do you enjoy laying in the sun. Tell me about yourself." She mewed.

“Well, I try my best to help out the clan, but a lot of the time I just end up sitting here because there is nothing to do. I must admit, I do love to lay in the sun though.” He said. “What’s weird is, I was about to ask the same question to you!” He said “But, since you already asked it, I’ll ask a different question. While on the topic of kits, Do you ever think about how it would feel to have kits of your own?”
