Oooo, a hunting patrol? With spiderthroat, muddy, and hollows? Say no more! The tripod happily hobbled over, taking to the side of his former mentor. He noticed the look on their face, however. Oh, right, sunkissed creek was where the sick camp was. "Muddy!" Wolfhawk purred, trying to think of a way to cheer the older cat up. "I caught some mice in a huntin event a while back, but that was just luck. I still dunno how ta hunt, can you teach me?" the brown cat asked, green eyes wide and filled with excitement. Plus, this would be the first time he's spent with muddy in a while. Hopefully the distraction could help cheer the older cat up. He looked around to see the patrol gathered - it seemed they were only missing Fireflypaw. That was one of Spiderthroat's spawn, right? And butterflypaw, but she was already here.

Oh. More patrols. Good. It wasn't like he'd just been sent on one of those by... the herb cat that totally had a name. This time, though, it was Pokey sending them, and thankfully, Sprucejumper had decided to keep an eye open for those. The last thing he needed was to give the calico any more ammunition to tease him, thank you very much. Hard pass on that.
So... first things first. Border patrol? Ew. Easily the worst type of patrol ever. Needlessly dangerous and he didn't really excel at fighting. His skills would forever be better employed in more useful things like hunting. And hunting. And did he mention hunting? Still... it wasn't like he could argue and ask for a better patrol, so he would have to just grin and bear it. Or... well... Bear it, in any case. The grinning part was... less than likely.
To make matters worse, Sprucejumper was conflicted. On one part, he was disappointed. And a bit jealous. Alright. A lot jealous. The Boulder had been placed on a hunting patrol... with Puppy and... and... Herb. Yes, that was as good a name as any. There was also that incredibly peppy, overly chatty cat that seemed vaguely familiar to him, but he gave her less of a moment's thought. Why were Puppy and Herb with The Boulder? They weren't warriors. They were herb cats. Here he was, stuck in stupid border patrol duty and once again he was in a position where he couldn't even say hello to his former mentor.
On the other paw, it didn't really matter, did it? Much as he hated to admit it, he had barely spoken to the cat ever since they'd gotten sick. As far as he knew, The Boulder was over him. He wasn't a kitten anymore, after all. Not only that, but he'd recognized one of the cats he had been put on patrol with. It was Sentinel. Snotzilla's friend. His apprentice would no doubt be happy to see her friend, and he supposed it would do her some good to reacquaint herself with the scents of the other cats that wanted to kill you. You know, other than Angry. It would also be good for her to see friends. She had seemed rather depressed shortly after getting better from her illness. He'd never been sick before, but he had to guess that usually cats were happy to be healthy again, not miserable, so time spent with a feline she liked would be sure to bring some pep to her step.
Approaching the other cats gathered there, he nodded in greeting at Sentinel and... the other one. He'd noticed Pokey speaking to her, but frankly he had been paying much more attention to The Boulder at the time than to the deputy once he'd understood the task. She seemed quiet. Speaking about as much as Sentinel, which was an instant point of likeability in his eyes. As silent as his companions, he sat besides them, looking towards the clearing in the hopes that he would see Snotzilla there.
"Sunpaw!" he called in what was by now an overly familiar action for him, knowing his apprentice would arrive as soon as she heard him if she had somehow missed out on Pokey's call.
He'd heard his name, and somethin about a hunting challenge? He didn't quite understant, but he'd had a job to do and he guessed he'd do it. Walking towards his group he started his wait. If someone had spoken to him, he didn't hear it. Not because he was ignoring, it was just because his head hurt.
Dad was on the other team with his two siblings. Go figure, and he was still here with his newer mentor...why he'd been changed to this one, he sorta understood. But. He disliked it. He was planning on trying hard, still was. He apparently had a reputation to uphold, or so his sister kept saying. He didn't understand the social cues to well...but he'd try of course. He didn't want to let dad down.
"Hunting competition? Whoever catches the most?" it finally clicked in his head. Oh. Oh he'd beat dad, that would be hilarious. A smile bloomed on the calico's maw as he thought about how funny it would be do beat the deputy of TunderClan. The all mighty blood God said no one ever. A nickname he'd come up with, would anybody use it? Of course not, calling yourself a nickname was pretty stupid and pretty awful to hear...almost like you licked a lemon and your face sinks in on itself.

He understood. It hurt. It did. He didn't miss the look Mudhound dropped towards, their deflation. Truthfully, he felt awful. But you don't get better by wallowing in your anguish and sadness. You don't do better by avoiding the problem that made you fall down. You look at it, you bark at it, hiss at it, tackle it, bite it. Anything rather than look away.
He knew it was, rude. He himself didn't want to go back, to smell the stench of the sick and the rotting. But he himself needed a step forwards and he was too...he was too scared to do it alone. Something he'd never admit. He hated bringing Mantispaw back to that forsaken place. But. He needed his kits with him. Something he never thought he'd ever think. But they've grown on him like barnacles truthfully.
"Once Butterflypaw gets here we'll head that way. I'm wantin to go slow though, make sure the territory is lookin good and all that." an excuse. "So really there's no rush, I'm thinkin at least." he tacked on at the end.
He'd caught a potential hair of the leader after he'd turned to look around for her. Hoping to spot her outside her den. Believing it was her, Spiderthroat called out. "BUMBLESTAR." ( @dino. ) a bellow. He'd make sure it was her first before doin anything. If she'd walk towards him, or yell at him (anything to get his attention back) he'd explain why exactly both medicine cats were coming with him. It was intentional.
"Maybe we can grab some plants or flowers, if they're sproutin, along the way. Just in case?" another thought through idea. If the duo of males and Mudhound didn't wish to pick flowers (Mudhound's mood should perk up, especially with two tiny apprentices) than he knew his girls would. More often than not the brats enjoyed covering him in petals. It brought him a sense of warmth he couldn't explain.
With the slow pace he planned on taking. He didn't expect to win that hunting game. As much as his competitive streak was screaming at him to win, he knew that this attempt at helping. At healing. Was more important. He was never good with emotions, much less expressing them. But this, acts of service, he could do. This was him trying to show that he cared for them. All of them. Even if it didn't make sense to them, as long as it helped, that's all the deputy could care for.
His kids were making him a softie.

Grunting as he rose to his paws, the Hornet sauntered his way up to the deputy as his name was called for a hunting patrol. Stars, it felt good to be back and patrolling. Besides, this would help to ease the guilt that still quietly gnawed at his stomach. He would never fail ThunderClan again. He couldn't. And what better way to start then by giving those still weak strength but with food?
Raggedear glanced at Nettlepaw and Beetlepaw as he joined the pair of apprentices, giving them each a warm blink. "A hunting competition?" His voice rumbled at Beetlepaw's suggestion, whiskers twitching with amusement. "Why, I think there's no better way to get our blood pumpin'!" He agreed with a firm nod.
"Now, who else are we waiting on?" The tom looked around for his other patrol mates.
Oh stars... They were tired. Newleaf was slowly approaching and they couldn't wait, but for now: cold, icy snow. Their ears perked at the call of their name, oh! A patrol! yeah- okay sick! who was going?
Autumnsong... never heard that name before, Raggedear... pretty sure they were both at that hunting thing that was held the other moon... they'd been on the same team! Er- they thought they were at least. Oh! Nettles! Their apprentice and favourite Thunderclan kiddo. they weren't sure who Ivypaw or Beetlepaw were, but hey, meeting new cats was always fun, right?
The pure white warrior made their way over quietly, their pale orange gaze scanning the clearing... Ah! There's Nettle! and Ragged! Is that Ivypaw or Beetlepaw? They said, squinting to get a better view. They still weren't sure which apprentice this was, but greeted him with a friendly smile.
Another hunting competition? They'd placed in the last one Thunderclan had done... and that was fun enough! Another one would be cool! "Morning everyone!" The Thunderclan warrior purred with a smile "A competition sounds pretty fun!" They said, puffing their fluffy chest up a bit.
They glanced at their apprentice, worry flickered in their eyes for a moment, They weren't sure if they were handling the exile of their sister very well. Dandelion worried that bringing it up would make things worse, so more so waited for Nettle to come to them if they wanted or needed to talk.
OOoooooooo!! Dad was calling patrols! And she was in the first one, obviously! Hehe, plus she was with Minkvenom. They were gonna show the rest of those suckers who's best. This was her first border patrol - she hadn't seen Smallpines yet, so that was exciting. If any of... Whatever clan's there ... Kicks up a fuss, they'd get to kick butt! Well, Hornetpaw would probably sit there and cheer, considering she didn't know what she was doing yet, but she knew the other cats would be really cool.
"Minkvenom!" She sprung on over. "Where's Smallpines? What clan's there?" She asked with a head tilt.

The tripod look a tad startled at Wolfhawks approach, blinking wildly at the loud peppiness that was usually their calling card. Wolfhawk didnt know hunting? Hadnt they taught him, they swore they had before...
Lost in musing and trying to remember Mudhound didnt notice how their eyes went distant and how in the end they didnt respond to the question at all, thoughts kind of drifting off without them as the tripod just sat.
It wasnt Wolfhawks fault really, just with the shock and sudden influx of emotions it was all too easy to lasp back into memories and silence and just... drift.
Spiderthroats attempts didnt get much either though their sudden yell for the leader caused the hornet to jolt and flinch hard, rearing back and hunching from the harsh noise.
Though, being so violently snapped to attention did mean they caught Spiderthroats proposition, and unable to stop themself from voicing the bitter thought the tripod scoffed and muttered "Flowers from where. Everything is still dead and awful from the snow, only green is near shadowclan." before lapsing back into silence.
They just didnt wanna go anymore, they wanted to go back to bed now and sleep so they didnt have to think.
Why was she being shouted at? She'd stuck her head out to check on things just briefly, but apparently it had been long enough for Spiderthroat to catch sight of her as she'd attempted to tuck herself out of sight again. With a grunt, Bumblestar shouldered through the lichen shrouding her den's entrance.
"What." The grunt was flat. Mudhound seemed upset, and that's really the only thing she could pick up on, so she maneuvered in front of her sibling to fix Spiderthroat with a sharp look."There a problem?"

Autumnsong's ears perked as she heard her name called for a patrol.
She, along with her apprentice, Beetlepaw, were on a patrol alongside Dandelionmane, Raggedear, Nettlepaw, and Ivypaw.
The thing about this though, is that it wasn't just any 'ol basic patrol, it was a competition!
This was sure to be fun, and Autumnsong was quite sure she, alongside her apprentice, would catch LOTS of prey!
"Well.." She mewed simply, turning to look at Beetlepaw, before glancing back at the four others in this with her. "You guys hear that? We are doing a competition together!" Autumnsong added with a light chuckle. "If you all are ready, we should start heading to the Cattail Pond. Best we get a head start so we can catch lots of prey for the Clan!" The shecat asked the four, well... five, including Beetlepaw. It seemed her apprentice was ready, and Raggedear too, now she just had to wait on the others. Hopefully, it won't take too long.
