Rainydawn attempted to leap out of the way but Flyfur managed to tangle up her legs and she tumbled forward. The weight of Flyfur landed heavily on Rainydawn’s haunches and she slammed her chin painfully on the ground. Slightly dazed, Rainydawn still realized that she had dwindling chances of getting away and she used the momentum of the original fall to propel herself, and hopefully Flyfur, forward. The bengal hoped that she’d manage to flip them and dislodge Flyfur but if she couldn’t quite get there she planned to roll heavily to the side and forcefully pull herself from Flyfur’s paws.

Flyfur gripped the ground with her claws and "chickened" Rainydawn so her only options were to dart foward or back out, careful not to put her full weight onto her, but enough to keep her in place, hopefully

The sight of rigid legs surrounding her brought a bit of panic to Rainydawn’s chest and she had to pause to think clearly. Going forward or backward were clearly things the Flyfur expected. Instead, Rainydawn shifted to get her paws fully under her and bunched her muscles. Pooling all of her strength, Rainydawn thrust upward with every bit of energy she had and threw herself forward. If it worked, she would have shoved Flyfur up enough that she could dart forward.

The shove upwards dislodged a few claws and twisted at least one awkwardly but Flyfur shifted enough of her weight to her front, upon seeing she wouldn't dart backward, believing she would rush foward. The force, however made her legs give out and Flyfur came to the ground in full force.
Whether or not Rainydawn had taken the chance to dart out didnt matter to her in the moment as fight or flight clicked in again and she hunkered into the ground again.

The maneuver didn’t work exactly as Rainydawn had expected but then suddenly an opening appeared. The warrior didn’t think, she just took it. She shot out from under Flyfur like a rocket- straight into a root. Rainydawn tripped head over tail into the dust and got a mouthful of soil. Once she made it to her paws again, she spat out the dirt with a wrinkled nose and couldn’t help laughing at her own silliness before facing Flyfur once more.

Flyfur had fallen full bodied onto the ground and the combination of tiredness from previously swimming and then getting beat to heck and rebutting this ball of energy, and a twisted claw caused her to just.
Stay down, allowing her claws to sheathe themself and waited for a reaction from Rainydawn. Save her energy in case she decided to jump on her. She might give up. But she really didn't want to.

Rainydawn tensed to jump bit paused when she saw Flyfur looking exhausted and sheathing her claws. Rainydawn herself still felt energetic- but that was helped by the pulsing of her heart caused by the adrenaline of being trapped. She wanted to win but she was also concerned about her clan mate. Remaining a cautious distance away, Rainydawn examined Flyfur and asked with a concerned tone,

“Are you okay, Flyfur?”

She grunted. "Yeah, just old."
Flyfur heaved herself back up, aware that her plan to spring her off as she came over to pin her was out the window now. 60 moons wasn't that old, but she wasn't mentioning that less than a moon ago she was in the nursery and out of practice by 4 moons.
"I think at this point you'd have a better chance at getting to the end." She huffed and in a lethargic manner waved her tail in surrender.
She didn't want to give up, but with the way Rainydawn kept rebutting her efforts, she would probably need to be dragged back if she kept fighting. The younger cat was also still full of energy. It amused and perplexed her.

Rainydawn blinked one surprise as Flyfur allowed her to take the place in the rest of the competition. Immediately, Rainydawn moved into a friendly posture and all sense of caution or battle melted away. She moved over to the other warrior and took a risk, bumping her with her forehead to her shoulder.

“Thanks, Flyfur! You are definitely worthy enough to be labeled an elite warrior!”

Flyfur had no intention of deceiving the young warrior. She hadn't the energy and it would have been cruel considering how quickly her partner dropped her guard.
She let out a gentle, inaudible purr. "That means much to me. I enjoyed sparring with you." She would certainly be out of the race now, but she'd stick around to cheer on Rainydawn.
"Let's get back to Wormbite and the others, yes?"
