"you could always try a different method" Mintyleaf meowed gently "my father used to like to dip his tail in the water and when to fish bite it he pulled them up, it didn't hurt as fish don't have teeth"

Mintyleaf laughed "yes, just like that, you can use that small fish to caught a larger one if you like, Large fish like to eat smaller fish"

"yes, but it works sometimes for us too, i caught my first Fish this way" Mintyleaf meowed before slipping Gently into thee Water and Disappearing under the water to come back up with a trout.

Right burdock and burnet these were some trickey herbs. Well rather burdock was, burnet was rather simpler. Burnet was simple a leafy plant found in sunny patches of damp dirt, simple in riverclan territory but burdock was a tall thistle plant often found in rockey terrain something riverclan was rather lacking of late and Snakeheart was uncertain of how to find it. In the past he'd trek up to the lionsrange and use the rocky cliffs to collect a hoard of the herb so he didnt need to go and make the journey again for awhile but now? Out of the question. Snakeheart had no battle training (for all Sootflare, Stormtalon, Kestrelstar, and so so many had promised to teach him) and they were at war and he was with two apprentices so traveling out into rogue land? Nope not a risk he was going to take with his and others lives. So where to find Burdock? The only place he could think of was the rockey rapids of the steamside near the border of the territory and even then it was a gamble.... at least they were likey to find burnet along the way.


"Alright so warning in advance I've reserved the hardest and most dirty herb to collect for us so my sympathies for that. Comfort yourself in the happy knowledge that I will have to borderline eat the stuff to heal our idiot clan later and you will only have to dig and carry it.


Our first herb is burdock but specifically the root. Burdock is a tall broad leafed thistle flowered herb that grows along the rock were walking by, it smells (and tastes) terribly bitter and once we find it we're to dig the roots up and wash it in the river to take home where we'll look for the other herb, burnet. Burnet is a small leaved low soft bush that smells sweet and has no flower, its hard to describe so Ill look for it primarily and once we find one we'll fleece it for what we need but focus on the burdock.

They probably had some and if they asked what the herbs were for he might even answer, not like he really had Reedpaw to teach anymore now that she quit (stars he still needed to tell Skystar) and the lack of a small nuisance to inform was more empty then he expected. He wouldnt be telling the apprentices of the roots numbing effect on the mouth they'd no doubt encounter while bringing the herb home though, that was for them to discover on their own (for his amusement).

Okay, so Shadepaw didn't know how to hunt. That was okay with Flintstrike, he'd just teach her. He approached the river slowly, dropping into a hunters' crouch. "You'll have to drop into a crouch," he instructed. "Use your tail for balance. Then, wait until a fish swims by. When it does, swipe with your paw and dig your claws into its neck - quickly. I will show you." Without turning to the molly, he waited patiently until a salmon swam by, not uttering a sound. Swiftly, he swiped at the animal, claws hooking into its neck. The prey went limp and he pulled it out of the water. "Now it's your turn."
