While Finchpaw wasn't much of a prideful cat themself, they wouldn't let others bring them down if it came down to it. Their eyes brightened at the sight of Arrowpaw. The two hadn't been the closest, but Finchpaw had always been the drifter. They didn't have one friend they particularly liked more than the other-except for Ivypaw. The two weren't very close, mainly because they were just so different. Arrowpaw and Ploverpaw had always had a special bond that Finchpaw hadn't ever experienced, but couldn't tell if whether they were jealous of it or resentful of it. Either way, they were a typically chill cat who didn't exactly hate or resent anyone for any reason. Though Finchpaw was an emotional cat, they didn't let it get in the way of their day to day life. Arrowpaw had always been the shy, worrysome one, but today in particular he seemed rather down than usual, and something was clearly bothering him besides his usual anxiety. Finchpaw's delighted face turned into one of neither anger nor rage, but something similar. "It isn't Airpaw and Hummingpaw, is it?" They asked, already knowing the answer. Of course Finchpaw wasn't angry at Arrowpaw, they were angry at the two apprentices that always seemed to hunt for trouble.

The smile dropped from Arrowpaws face slightly. He wouldnt lie of course, so instead he gave a small nod. Was he that easy to read? Of maybe it was simply the fact that Finchpaw could just read some cats like a book at times. He laid down next to the tom, fur brushing. It seemed ever since meeting Ploverpaw and the rest of his friends the tom has grown more and more used to always being near someone. Whether it be their fur brushing or a tail drapped across one anothers. And it wasnt that Arrowpaw was trying to make moves on anycat, he was just a affection cat. He kept his gaze to the ground though. He wasnt proud that he was being bullied. In fact, he felt ashamed. he felt ashamed that he could let another cat do that to him. No wonder why they called him weak. At this point, he believed it. Arrowpaw didnt have much of a self esteem in the first place, but the bullying only made it worse. "I d-dont know what I did wrong F-finch..is there something wrong with m-me?" Was he being bullied because he was different? Weird? Was it because of his stuttering? His walk? the way he looked? And Arrow being Arrow he believed whatever Humming and Airpaw said. He believed he was just a screw up who had low self esteem and couldnt do anything right. Maybe they were right.

The young cat's expression grew concerned as they looked at their worrisome friend. "You've done absolutely nothing wrong, Arrow. I can promise you that. Those cats just love looking for trouble. They build off the reaction you give, makes them feel powerful, which is disgusting. They feel the need to bully cats like you and me because they already have low self esteem themself, and they feel stronger when they treat us like we're less than them. It's how they make themselves feel good. Out job is to make sure we don't give them the reaction they seek. Eventually they'll stop trying because they know you don't care, and that lowers their ego a bit. Then they'll move onto the next cat, and on the cycle goes until they realise that nothing that they say matters, and they'll stop. The best thing you can do is ignore them, but if it gets bad, don't be afraid to politely tell them to stop. If that doesn't work, and if you feel up to it, you can roast them and make them feel like the true rotten pieces of fording they really are. If your not up to it, don't be afraid to ask someone to help you, like me for instance. There's no shame in needing help, okay?" Finchpaw assured Arrowpaw, hoping their words helped a bit. "I know for a fact that any one of our friends would help without question." They added kindly, draping their tail over Arrow's back comfortingly.

Arrowpaw looked up at him as he spoke, listening to every word he spoke. At times it was hard to get through to the tom with his low self esteem and all, and it took him a bit of convincing but. He knew Finch meant those words. Sure, they could be hypocritical at times but they knew they werent lying. The tom could only give the most genuine smile he could give. He couldnt remember the last time he smiled since Airpaw and Hummingpaw came into his life. And with Ploverpaw busy with finishing up his training, it felt nice to just. sit down and have reassurance from someone besides Plover. He loved the tom dearly and always would, but it felt nice to have the love from his other friends too. At times social interaction scared Arrow, he could remember when he was to nervous to even speak to Finch without Plover around. But the nervousness was washed away with ease as Finch rested their tail on Arrows back and he allowed himself to lean on Finches shoulder a bit in comfort. "T-thank you..." his voice was quiet,"that m-means so much to me, you have no idea Finch." he smile never faltered.

Thus why he had settled down in the spot he did and prepared to take a short nap so that he could regain some of the energy lost from his time in the territory; had he noticed the tom, he would have approached him and asked what was needed. He had a notion that the warrior didn't like him, he had gotten that feeling ever since he started his leadership, but never had he let that idea, or rather fact, change his view on Aspenflash. He would be willing to help him just like he was willing to help any other cat of Skyclan. He held no ill-will towards anyone in Skyclan and to be truthful, cared about every single cat as if they were his family because in his mind, they were. All Grousestar cared about was the well-being and success of Skyclan, that's all he wanted was for Skyclan to be a thriving, successful clan. He didn't seek power, or more territory, he just wanted what would allow Skyclan to leave peacefully and continue to live their lives without hindrance. Of course, though, sometimes it came at a price. His decision to move to this new territory, to move closer to the other clans and to help save them, it wasn't necessarily to help Skyclan become successful {though he liked to think it would help Skyclan be in their favor}, but to help cats in need. As most cats knew, the brown tabby held a big heart and to think that cats were being forced into a way of thinking and believing.. He just couldn't stand for it. It was a dicey move for him to bring his clan into battle, but he believed in the end it had been worth it. They now had four possible allies, Grousestar could decide which ones he wished to have because, after all, you couldn't expect to be allies with all four at the same time, there would be contempt arisen if he had decided to ally with a particular one, thus causing an enemy. And with the Dusk Syndicate, though they did defeat them, he simply didn't wish to create another enemy for Skyclan at the moment. So he would refrain from trying to be more friendly to any particular clan, but rather to all of them. Until he decided whom he would befriend.
Swiveling his ear slightly, the leader heard the familiar approach of pawsteps, a quiet sigh escaping him, but a smile resting on his lips as he waited for them to stop before him. He could feel the warmth of the sun being blocked out from his face as the approaching cat stood there, Grousestar peeking his eyes open cautiously, blinking, then fully opening them and lifting his head to get a good look who was towering over him. Aspenflash.
Sadness welled in his chest. He had not forgotten about his former apprentice, and he had not forgotten why Aspenflash hated him. He was the cause of Rowanflower's death, he had brought Skyclan to battle and in return, Rowanflower had been killed. There wasn't a day that Grousestar had stopped thinking about it; he did his best not to show it, not because he didn't want cats to think he didn't care, but because he didn't want cats to be reminded of the battle and the horrors that went with it. Because he knew that battle would be inevitable now that they were in this new territory. Sooner or later, it would happen again. But the leader still held the heartwrenching sadness that went with the knowledge of his former apprentice being slain in battle. If he could apologize every day for the rest of his eight lives to Aspenflash about Rowanflower's death, he would but for some reason, even the optimistic tom didn't think that would work. Aspenflash would always hold the anger towards him for causing his sons death. There was nothing he could do to sooth it.
Regardless, he put on his cheery smile as he looked up at the older warrior.
"Greetings Aspenflash." His voice was just as cheery and polite as his smile, but inside Grousestar could only sigh, his heart aching for the father in front of him. Aching to apologize, aching to comfort the older tom even if he didn't need it. Just.. Just something to make Aspenflash feel even just slightly better. But it wasn't the time for it, and he felt that there would never be a time that it would be accepted anyways. It stung, but it was the truth.
The news that the tom shared, caused Grousestar's smile to falter a bit, his emerald gaze falling to the ground in thought. It wasn't the fact that he had trouble believing in Aspenflash, not at all, but rather the danger that might come to the older warrior if he had to travel all the way back to the old territory in order to retrieve her.
But this is his mate.. I.. I can't imagine.. The hope that is in him right now, the thought of being able to see her again after so long of being lost.
I can't take that away from him. It's clear he doesn't care of the danger that he would be facing, but I do.. I don't wish to lose anymore warriors.. The leaders eyes were cloudy and he remained silent for a good long while.
Perhaps if I sent him out with another warrior that would be safer.. Yes.
Clearing his gaze, he'd look back up at Aspenflash with a trained, gentle smile.
"It is good news to hear that Mapleleaf lives. Of course you may travel back to the old territory to get her and bring her back home safely, but I worry for your own safety on this long journey. The only thing that I ask, is that you bring one other warrior with you on your way. You may have any cat of your choosing, or I may chose for you, whichever you're comfortable with."
There was a small pause, the smile faltering now.
"Also I.. On another note.. Aspenflash, I'm sorry. I'm sorry for everything that you've gone through. I'm sorry for being.. Being the cause of Rowanflower's death and I hope that some day you will find peace. I sincerely apologize for all of the pain and grief that I have caused and pray to Starclan that maybe one day you will forgive me."
The cheerfulness that had faltered was now gone all together, his head dipping lowly as he apologized to the warrior in front of him. His eyes didn't look at Aspenflash, but instead were trained on the ground, his shoulders sagging.
{If you don't already have a cat you'd like with him, I have Yarrowpounce ;0}
|
[ Yarrowpounce is welcome to join, if it's okay for three cats to go on that patrol? =) I promised Draping that one of her cats could go on the journey but three's a crowd y'know! cx ]
[ and ohmygosh the hatred is real ]
Rowanflower was the primary reason, and probably the only reason, for Aspenflash's powerful dislike for Grousestar. He hadn't shared a very good relationship with any of his children, not Redflare or Rowanflower or Ashenleaves, and he hadn't had much of a chance to form a bond with his deceased daughter, Stormkit, whom passed away not long after Mapleleaf's kitting. Rowanflower and Ashenleaves, as kits, had avoided both Mapleleaf and Aspenflash. In fact, Rowanflower had even unofficially become part of another family, neglecting his biological kin. Ashenleaves had always avoided her parents and siblings, running the other way whenever she caught sight of them. And Redflare... Aspenflash didn't exactly understand Redflare and her thoughts and emotions as she was much too erratic for his simple mind. It had bothered him since the loss of his kit, Stormkit, that he never had a chance to get to know her. He didn't know if she would've been cheerful and optimistic, or timid and anxious. And a couple moons after the kits' were born, when they were weaned off their mothers' milk, Mapleleaf left the nursery to return to her warrior duties. She was offered the role of deputy, and had taken it. Their kits remained in the nursery, resenting their parents. Aspenflash hadn't approved of Mapleleaf's decision to leave the nursery, but it wasn't like he could've forced her to stay in the den. He did his best to get the family together, but Mapleleaf was busy with her duties and the kits would've done anything to avoid their parents. Aspenflash had watched their kits growing up from a distance, loving them with all his heart and feeling pride at all their accomplishments. He was a family tom, and kin meant more to him than SkyClan ever would. Of course, he was a loyal SkyClan warrior, but if his kits left the clan then he would join them. After all, he was leaving the clan to find his long-lost mate. That must say something. Perhaps his dedication to his kin was the reason Aspenflash despised Grousestar. Grousestar had lead the clans away from the old territory, leaving Mapleleaf stranded. Grousestar launched a battle against each of the four clans, one of which had caused the death of Aspenflash's own son. Yes, Aspenflash had very applicable reasons to dislike Grousestar.
He didn't care that someone would have to accompany him on his journey, and it hadn't even crossed his mind of the troubles he may encounter. I'm going to find Mapleleaf! This fueled his happiness. Aspenflash was close to embracing Grousestar and showering him in grateful licks, but he disliked the younger tom too much to do so. But his dull yellow-green eyes lit up with joy, which brightened his other features. His dangling tail began to wag happily, and his worried frown quickly turned upwards in the largest grin possible. He was breathless for the next few moments of silence. Aspenflash simply couldn't believe that he would be reunited with his mate. Not now, but later, - in a few moments - would sadness engulf him as he realizes that he will have to tell Mapleleaf about Rowanflower's passing. His jaws opened to thank the tom before him, but he was prevented from doing so when Grousestar began to speak.
His joy faded as Grousestar addressed Aspenflash's hatred. He immediately became a grim-looking tomcat, his lips turning downward in a frown. He narrowed his eyes, and his tail-tip flicked with annoyance. Lowering his head until he was level with Grousestar, he growled softly while baring his teeth. He couldn't believe that his child's murderer was apologizing for killing his son! Aspenflash's sharp gaze could burn the skin of even the cat with the thickest fur. His hatred was so powerful, the cats in the other clans could probably feel it. ``You... You're sorry? Ha! You can't say sorry, after what you did, and hope that one day I will forgive you! How can I forgive a murderer? How can I forgive the cat who abandoned my mate? StarClan can't do anything for you! No, not in this situation. I will never forgive you.`` Since the disappearance of his mate and the loss of his son, he hasn't believed in StarClan. What had their starry ancestors done for him except bring him misery? His family was a mess, and his clan only seemed to make his family life worse. ``Never speak of my family again. Don't talk to them, don't even look at them. Understood?`` His tone was laced with hatred, the emotion that radiated off him in waves. And to think that Aspenflash was about to thank Grousestar!

Bouncepaw sat in the clearing, enjoying the peaceful afternoon. Enjoying a mouse, the day seemed great so far.
He had gone hunting with his sisters, Dawnpaw and Heavensong. Heavensong had already finished eating and left, but Dawnpaw was babbling on as usual. She was the only cat who could ruin the quiet.
" Tomorrow, we'll go hunting again, and we can have a competition to see who can catch her own prey." Dawnpaw said.
Bouncepaw was half listening, so he just replied "Ok."
"Great! I'm going to go tell Heavensong." Dawnpaw said. Then she padded off excitedly."
Bouncepaw, happy for peace and full quiet, sat alone.

Stepping into camp, a mouse hanging from her jaws, Petalpaw's differently colored hues scanned the camp until she heard Dawnpaw's babbling about what she would do tomorrow, she simply rolled her eyes, some apprentices simply couldn't grow up now could they..? The calico then gazed at Bouncepaw, a faint smile forming on her face, that tom seemed to be the total opposite of his sister, well, from what she could've seen as of now. she quickly went to the fresh-kill pile and placed what she had caught in it before she headed straight towards Bouncepaw, swaying her hips as she padded towards the other apprentice. "Hello there, Bouncepaw~" She purred and sat beside him, her voice was soft and delicate, her british accent adding to it. "I see your sister is still being annoying..." She added with a slight chuckle, a paw over her maw to try and hide it. "Also, for that contest... I guess you could cheat a little." She said, winking at the tom.

Oh Starclan please help him heal, please don't tell me he's permanently damaged or scarred, he doesn't deserve this. No cat deserves this. His emerald eyes watched the crumbling demeanor of his friend and he could feel his stomach twisting in knots. It pained the tom to see Rabbitfluff like this, it really did, all he wanted to do was to make sure this tom was as safe and secure as possible. While he was sure Rabbitfluff didn't need it, or rather wouldn't accept it, he would happily take care of himself for a moon, or longer, if that's what it took to help him recuperate; he would hunt for him, get whatever he needed, no questions asked. Anything to make sure that he would be okay, anything to help Rabbitfluff feel safer, feel more like himself. Because this? This wasn't the Rabbitfluff he knew.
At the scoff, the leader smiled brightly, but hearing the crack in his friends voice quickly diminished the cheery look, bringing him right back to the reality that his friend wasn't okay right now. He had only imagined, for a moment, that he was okay, that suddenly he snapped right out of it and things would be okay again. Maybe it was his heart yearning for it, for Rabbit to be back in his old self, so that he could hear those scoffs, to hear his realistic take on things rather than his own personal naive and optimistic thoughts. But no, that crack in his voice showed perfectly well how miserable, how damaged Rabbitfluff was, causing his stomach to go back into twisting knots.
Regardless, seeing that Rabbitfluff didn't have too much trouble keeping up with him, he kept his pace and they would be reaching the clearing shortly. The dark border grew further and further behind them and soon enough the smell of the Syndicate was completely gone, unless you had an extremely sharp nose.
"Wha-." A look of distress filled the leaders face as he turned his head to look over at the other tom, catching exactly what he was implying. Why would a Skyclan cat do that? No.. I won't accept it, surely there's some other reasoning. Pursing his lips, Grousestar looked back ahead, doubt beginning to litter his thoughts. There's.. No.. A Skyclan cat wouldn't do that. I trust every cat in Skyclan, even if a cat held dislike for Rabbitfluff, they wouldn't go so far as to spread information as sensitive to that to an..
an enemy! The leader didn't respond to his friends accusation, his eyes fixated forward, slightly distant as he focused on his swirling thoughts.
Then Rabbitfluff brought him out of those thoughts, with two simple words. I'm sorry. In all the time he's known the tom, Grousestar couldn't remember a single time that he had heard those words come from his lips. Turning his head slightly, he'd look over at the smaller tom with worry.
"No, no you are.. Inclined to believe what you'd like but.. But Rabbitfluff,
I believe there's another answer. I don't believe there is an untrustworthy cat in Skyclan, even.. Even if some cat didn't like you, I don't think they'd go that far. No, surely he..." The leader puffed out a breath in frustration, looking back ahead as the camp entrance came into view. "Maybe you accidentally told him, when he was talking with you and he.. He used it against you. I'm not sure, but it couldn't have been a Skyclan cat. It just..
It couldn't have been."
Moments later, his paws carried him through the camp entrance and spilled them out into the camp clearing. Flicking his tail, the leader would frown slightly and glance around before looking to his friend. "Where would you like to go to rest? My den, the warriors den? Would you like to visit Ebonyfrost? Where would you like to go? Or is here fine?"
|
Rabbitfluff wanted to believe this would pass in a moon or shorter span of time, maybe two, and he would be back to normal after that, but the expectation didn't seem realistic when he was struggling to stay focused on the most menial of tasks like walking to the camp. In the presence of Grousestar, no less; if he couldn't trust the single living cat who could stand him and was his leader, what did he have remaining? He supposed Hannibal was right when he drove in the impression that he was alone in the world, as if that hadn't been true already.
It was a relief once they were far from the border and within the safety of SkyClan's territory, not that it helped him much. No longer did he have to worry about being jumped by a gang of Syndicate cats but he decided it wouldn't have been the most tragic event to occur, had he been the only feline on this journey. Finally able to take his mind off of that particular threat, he could spare enough attention to allot to Grousestar in time to hear his surprised and perhaps upset reaction. Rabbitfluff was half prepared to be lectured on why their clanmates wouldn't do that or some reason it was silly to think of it as a possibility, however neither of those outcomes became reality as he seemed to disappear into the void of his own thoughts. It left Rabbitfluff to grapple with the probability of such a thing happening, unsure of if Grousestar was doing the same, or if he'd rejected the notion entirely and was conjuring alternatives. Considering he felt badly for suggesting it in the first place, Grousestar's response (or lack thereof) reinforced the idea that it wasn't one worth fixating on and definitely not bringing up in conversation once again. He didn't want to concern or rile his friend--despite being well-aware Grousestar was quite the laid back tom--or imply a disloyalty to SkyClan, even if he wasn't certain of anything anymore.
He could feel Grousestar's gaze on him but was hesitant to meet it, not knowing what he would be faced with: anger, hurt, annoyance? After scraping up the courage to look, his stomach churned uneasily as he realized he'd been wrong, Grousestar appeared worried. That was not quite the intended effect, if there had been one to begin with. However, he didn't want to confirm or deny Grousestar's theory when anything was plausible and honestly, he arrived at the conclusion he didn't want to think about it anymore. He just wished he could be numb for a while and not fixate on his interaction with Hannibal. Uneasiness settling like a stone in his belly, Rabbitfluff nodded slowly and mumbled a defeated "probably" to alert Grousestar to his desire to drop the subject. Luckily, they had reached the camp, and he could slink off to rest. Or stay awake, reliving the painfulness of the interaction.
"I will escort myself to the warriors' den," Rabbitfluff meowed, throat tightening. Touched at the offer and reminded he had someone who cared about him, Rabbitfluff felt like he was about to fall apart again, and he was willing to do whatever it took to avoid that at all costs when they were standing in the middle of the clearing. He started forward toward the warriors' den with his head lowered but not without managing a soft albeit audible, "Thank you for… everything, Grousestar."

"Hi there, Petalpaw." Bouncepaw said, turning to her with a smile. He gazed at the pretty calico for a second. For sure, one of his favorite things to was talk to her.
" She can be annoying, very annoying, but I love her. And I would, but Dawnpaw would never let me here the end of it if she found out." He added with a laugh.

As the tom returned the smile, Petalpaw couldn't help it and lightly buried herself in his fur, unlike him, her fur was short, so she sometimes did this for warmth, her tail wrapped around her paws tightly as she gazed up at the tom, chuckling. "You know she doesn't have to know... I can just leave before you do and catch a few preys before taking them to a spot, wherever you want me to." She purred, chuckling once more. "After all, I may be a kittypet, but I know how to hide my scent and all that, my mentor is amazing!" She purred, the tip of her tail lightly tapping Bouncepaw's paws. "No one would know except you and me~" The pretty calico added, her smile growing.

Sunpaw padded out of the apprentices den. the light ginger tom took a moment to survey the area. It seemed as though nothing important was happening. well, that was probably for the better. He didn't like much important things to happen, unless they evolved around him. Sunpaw felt like the only thing he found important, was flirting with and/or teasing other apprentices. He didn't really find anything else that interesting. After a little while, Sunpaw moved to a different side of the clearing. Sitting down, he began to wash himself.
