Orpheus took a moment before his adrenaline kicked in, and he ran, fast. He tore through the forest, finding anyway to confuse and get away from the canine, who was snapping it's jaws as it chased him. What could he do? He was going to die! Right as he was getting closer to finding his mother!

Lark glanced behind him, realizing that Orpheus wasn't with him. Neither was the fox. He went back the way he came, hoping to find him. He yowled "Orpheus, I'm coming!" He hoped that he was still alive. The former kittypet stood no chance against a fox. @Kyrieknight

Orpheus' only response was a shriek of horror. He spotted a large tree and scrambled up, running up as quickly as he could. The fox snapped after him, and he felt his heart hammer as it tried to climb after him, only to fail. "Lark!"

Lark started to panic when he heard his name. Racing through the trees he smelled Orpheus' fear scent underneath the rank stench of the fox. Bursting into a clearing, he spotted the fox snarling as it tried to climb the tree. Peering into the leaves, he saw the kittypet clinging to a branch. @Kyrieknight

Orpheus was panicking. He was going to die if he left the tree! He couldn't fight! And the fox wasn't giving up: it was still trying really hard to get a bite. Looking around wildly, he spotted Lark, and felt his heart catch in his throat.

"Lark!" He screamed again, digging his claws into the branch he was on. "What do I do?!"

"The fox can't climb the tree," Lark told him, trying to stay calm. "Just stay in the tree for now and we'll try to figure something out." Hearing another voice, the fox turned toward Lark and went after him. Scrabbling for a grip on the slippery leaves, he found a tree and swarmed up it. If there was one thing he was good at, it was climbing. Lark looked across at Orpheus. They were now both stuck in trees. "Now what?" @Kyrieknight

Orpheus forced his panicked thoughts to make way for logical thinking, no matter how hard it was. So, he and Lark were trapped in trees from a fox, the fox wouldn't go away, and they had no hope on fighting it alone. What could they do? What could he do?

After a few moments, an idea-a rather reckless and admittedly stupid one- came to Orpheus: from his travels in the neighborhood, he knew of a house with two dogs at the fences. They were both aggressive to everything, especially foxes. What if...

"We can lure it to some dogs at a house nearby!" He called, his shoulders tense. "Maybe they can chase the fox away?!"

"How do we get down?" Lark asked. "Do you expect us to run through the trees all the way to Twolegplace?" He tore angrily at a leaf. "If only I hadn't run into a tree, too. Then we both could get down." @Kyrieknight

Oh... He hadn't thought about that. Good question. Orpheus thought for a moment before an idea came to him.

"Well, the dogs always are attracted to cats yowling," he called. Then, without warning, he started to do just that, yowling as loudly as his body allowed him.

The foxs' ears swiveled around, his eyes filling with excitement. He threw himself over at Orpheus' tree, snarling. Lark, seeing his chance, swarmed down the tree and took off. For a moment, he was afraid that he would see the fox chasing after him. But, he heard nothing and soon slowed down. @Kyrieknight
