He was successful in the obstacle, and could soon hear Bravebird calling out the last one when everyone had passed the sticks - with varying luck. After touching the rocks as instructed Owglide but on a last burst of speed as he headed for the finishing line. He hadn't gone all out yet in the race, and had on pourupe saved up energy for the last part. Now, when the race was coming to an end, he once more unsheathed his claws to a better grip after having kept them in so as not to break one off on the rocks, and lowered his head to make himself more aerodynamic and lower the resistance that the wind might bring.

SOOTFLARE

Despite the occasional twig snagging his pelt, Sootflare emerged ahead and unimpeded. The front crowd seemed to have slimmed down but Sootflare didn't have time to take full stock of the situation.

As his paws hit solid rock, Sootflare put every last bit of energy he had into the final sprint.

As if her luck in this race could not get any worse, a rather sizeable beetle tripped her up on the last of the weave poles.
Rabbit dung!
It took a moment to regain her footing, but once again she was off like a bat out of hell, sprinting for the Adder Rocks. Aiming carefully, she planted her forepaws on a rock, using it as a springboard to launch herself in the direction of the finish line with her hindpaws. She hit the ground running, and lengthened her stride as much as she could, belly fur brushing the ground. The wind slicked back her fur as she streaked along, pushing herself to the limit to get across the line, hopefully with a decent placement.

All cats are now speeding towards the finish line! Paws are drumming against the moorland and it looks to be a close one! It has been a harrowing race so far with many place changes, who is going to be the winner and take home the title of the fastest cat in WindClan?? There goes Sootflare, putting on speed... but here comes Cloudwillow! Shooting past him and showing him that even though he's got swift paws, he is still no match for a WindClan cat! And right on Sootflare's tail comes Fernpaw!

Just behind the three with an impressive speed are Swiftpaw, Rippleshade, and Pinestrike! All three cats are giving it their all and making this race close! You can see it in their eyes, folks - they are not giving up!

And bringing up the rear but still incredible close are Owlglide and Speckledpaw! Closing it out in true WindClan fashion - you can barely see their paws as they sprint home.

...AND THERE IS THE YOWL TO SIGNAL THE END OF THE RACE! WHAT AN EXCITING FINISH!!!

From where Bravebird stands now there is a prideful light in her eyes as she nods, breathless, to each of the competitors. "You all raced your hearts out!" she calls, making sure her voice is elevated to reach every cats ears. "I am so proud to know that WindClan truly does have the fastest cats in the entire forest and beyond! Now, each of you deserve to grab the biggest rabbit off of the fresh-kill pile. Thank you all for competing in this race!"

A BIG THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO COMPETED IN THIS RACE EVENT, IT WAS VERY FUN!!! I ALSO WANT TO THANK YOU FOR YOUR PATIENCE AS IT WAS A SORT OF LONG WINDED ONE!

Cloudwillow stares at the cats around her. After all that... She had... FIRST PLACE?! What a shock!

She knew she had felt her stamina fading at the end, but luck had really not been with her during the various obstacles. Dashing across the finish line, Pinestrike collapsed into a heap, panting.
Rabbit dung! Sixth place...
That was the problem with being short, she supposed. Short legs.

Rippleshade as exhausted. not something she feels that often, and she knew it. "Top.... Five...." she said in an exhausted tone. "I got there. I did it. good job everyone."

Just as he was about to cross the finish line, paws outstretched to bound across and claim first place, Sootflare felt a breeze soar past him. He stumbled to a stop on the other side and, after taking a moment to catch his breath, spotted the feline who claimed the title of winner - Cloudwillow.

Side still heaving from the effort, he padded over and clapped her on the shoulder with his tail in congratulations, "Good job!" his voice rumbled, "You raced well."

Heart beating in her throat, excitement thrumming through every nerve, Shattervenom watched as the racer's plunged toward the final stretch. She thought for a moment that Sootflare would pull ahead and sweep first place--yet right as she was about to shout for his victory, Cloudwillow shot ahead of him in a blur of fur. Fernpaw darted in at third place; Swiftpaw and Rippleshade poured on the speed, claiming fourth and fifth place with such tenacity Shatter wondered how they had the energy to breathe; behind them came Pinestrike, her shorter legs nonetheless propelling her onward to the finish line. Owlglide and Speckledpaw brought up the rear--but despite lagging behind the pack, it was clear how much effort they'd thrown into their performance; both cats were panting hard, legs churning without stop, not about to end the race on a low note.

Bravebird's yowl called the event to a close. Shattervenom swallowed hard in awe, jaw dropping open, tail lashing from the dregs of her fading adrenaline. That had been... amazing! Everyone did so well, giving it their absolute all! THIS was why the other clans had reason to respect WindClan: these were the fastest cats for hundreds of miles--felines built for breathtaking speed and impressive endurance unmatched. Pride nearly burst out of Shattervenom's chest.

She wanted to do something nice to congratulate all the participants. Quickly, in a frenzy of bubbly energy, Shatter jumped from her high vantage point to begin gathering a bouquet of wildflowers to hand out.

"Cloudwillow--excellent job." Shatter trotted toward the participants, tail wagging amicably and flowers swaying in her clenched teeth. She bestowed a huge purple coneflower to the first place winner. "I couldn't believe how fast you were... we'll have to race together sometime, 'kay?"

Beaming (or at least as much as a stone-faced cat like Shatter could beam), the glossy warrior made her way toward Sootflare. She laid a tall pair of white daisies at his paws, giving him a firm friendly bump on the shoulder with one of her forepaws. "Not bad... you looked like a true WindClan warrior out there. Congratulations."

Fernpaw was given a sprig of light blue chicory and a gentle bap on the forehead; the rest of the racers were given delicate bluestar blossoms and happy smiles. What good fun!

Of course, there was one more cat who deserved a prize...

"This was an awesome idea, Bravebird." Shattervenom plopped a bright yellow sunflower before the organizer of the wonderful race, eyes crinkled at the corners. "Thanks for doing something for fun for the clan... I loved watching. Maybe next time I'll have to participate, huh?"
