Dark paws sinking into the sand left many paw prints along the cold ocean washed bank. Gritting her teeth moonpaw bit back a smart retort as she carefully scanned the waters edge, great starclan this sand is absolutely a torture to my paws.. the beach offered no protection from the harsh cold wind that caught the oceans cold spray, by now her fur was well damp and her eyes burned with fury, curse frogfern for telling me to hunt here! Starclan forbid this kind of torture is truly cruel! shaking her black fur, she was unaware of a strong gust of wind coming her way, that is until she was halfway submerged in the salty freezing water. Jumping back to her paws she scurried away from the water spitting horrid curses along the way while she shook vigorously, sending cold droplets everywhere. Now her fur was completely drenched. Great…when I get back to camp I swear I’ll shred my mentor lifting her head she glanced towards the sky, I wonder if your doing ok sealpaw….and thrushpaw, are mom and dad still cold and harsh? Don’t be too hard on them ok? I’m sure their tired. a sigh parted her maw before she shook her head again, it’s not like frogfern knew it would be like this, I can’t always blame others sitting down she began to groom her fur dry, maybe if she hurried she’d be able to practice hunting elsewhere but she really wanted to get over her hatred for sand and her goal was to catch a few things today…

Frog'Fern trotted quickly across the harsh stinging sand its roughness
didn't settle well with their tender paw pads. Hopefully their apprentice
was already here, their talk with their clan-mate lasted longer than
expected she'd be sure to avoid that warrior when they needed to
get somewhere soon. Frog'Fern saw their apprentice awhile away and
she seemed to be having a moment because she was yowling at the..Sky?
Frog'Fern slowed down watching them tense and untense. Frog'Fern
kept their paws slowed and then noticed they were holding their breath
it would be a good moment to see if the young apprentice was actually
aware of her surroundings. Then frog'fern exhaled and walked normally
and responded "You ready to start training?" Frog'Fern squinted
at Moon'Paw fully exspecting her to lash out.

She had caught a whiff of her mentors scent before she saw them or heard them. of course I’m ready. Let’s hurry up and get things done I don’t want to be stuck in this wind and sand any longer. she turned her head away and began scanning the surface of the water with her eyes, truthfully if moonpaw hadn’t stopped herself she would’ve spat insulting retorts until starclan themselves came down to stop her. Pausing for a moment she threw out a warning behind her as she got up to walk further up the beach, carful, the wind gust are stronger than usual today and there’s no place to really shield yourself until further up. with that she set out at a brisk trot, her green eyes narrowed against the wind and in concentration.

Frog'Fern

They nodded "If anything were ever to happen to you and you where
hunting you'd most likely hunt in places that would drive any cat mad
to hunt in." Frog'Fern mumbled. Starting with the water was wise because
they need to use up the most time they had with it before leaf bare
came and gave them some type of sickness for not being prepared ahead
of time and that'd slow down Moon'Paw's warrior ceremony and Frog'Fern
wouldn't wish to be blamed and listen to her complaining much more.

"Do you know any of the basics?" Frog'Fern knew it was a low shot but
maybe knowing wouldn't get their ears wiped off. Hopefully this apprentice
at least knew to swim but since this apprentice had been in camp and
maybe not learned how to swim, it was a possibility.

The small cat flicked her tail to show she had herd frogferns comment on her. Her steps faltered a bit as she murmured inwardly, am I really that difficult..maybe I should try harder to be better… she gritted her teeth as a insult rose up but she forcefully tossed it back down. She wouldn’t ever be rude to frogfern unless she was actually upset or just joking around. Shaking her head she quickend her pace until she was nearly running. Why does everyone judge me?! It’s not my fault! Just shut up, shut up,shut up, shut up! tears threatened to spill from her eyes as she spotted the first rocky covering. Picking up her pace she quickly ducked under it. Choking back a sob she firmly reminded herself, don’t you dare cry! Weak cats cry, if your going to be weak you might as well give up everything you’ve worked for. How pathetic even a single comment makes you act up! Damn-it just get over it already! taking in deep breaths she managed to calm down and fix her composure. She has always dealt with offhand comments and some where even worse than others yet, she was deeply wounded that even her own mentor would say such a thing.

FrogFern


FrogFern watched her apprentice race off, they cursed under their breath
then thought: what's wrong now? as they raced after Moon'Paw. They
slowed and ducked under the cover and slowed their pace so they wouldn't
get in front of their apprentice. A deep part of FrogFern wanted to say Suck
it up! You have many moons left with me. But their better self responded
"Moon'Paw? What's got your fur in a tangle?" It wasn't the nicest thing to
say but it's the only nice thing FrogFern could choke up.

Was it what they mumbled? and her young ears caught their aimless words?
If so then FrogFern would have to say that it wasn't really directed at her
just a self comment. These young apprentices had alot to go through if they
thought stating reality was difficult to even hear, they had hell to cross.

Hash language warning

The black cat looked up at her mentor, eyes filled with uncertainty and anger. Like hell I’d die where no cat would ever find me! she spat bitterly. I can’t help it if I’m like this, I can change that sure, but there is absolutely no changing where I’ll die do you hear me. I promised my family that I’d die a warriors death, I’d die for my clan and only then will I ever be able to face my family. turning her gaze away she glanced over the beach further up. also of course I know the basics I’ve taught myself from watching others and training all night and day. she wouldn’t forget what frogfern had said but she would never forget the figure she had become to her. Sighing she turned around to face her again. I’m sorry frogfern, I know I’m a stupid fish-brain and I shouldn’t have yelled please decide on a punishment for me later. staring at her paws moonpaw thought back to her last conversation with her younger sister reedpaw. They where younger and so stupid and immature, but she remembered the day like it had happened only moments ago. Sitting on a rock in the clan camp she was sharing a pike with her siblings when reedpaws voice spoke out. I’ve always heard the ocean was pretty and calming. When I see it I want to see it with you all! Won’t that be fun. moonpaw had agreed and they made a promise that they would only visit lions beach when they where together. But now moonpaw stood alone on the sandy beach, the clouds dark and unwelcoming and the ocean as cold as ice on her skin. I’m sorry reedpaw, I broke our promise. I bet the ocean is lovely in spring just like you said. I guess the only thing I’m good at is messing up and breaking promises. It wouldn’t surprise me if frogfern left me as well I mean who would want to be around a cat like me. A cat of misfortune. A freak.

They stared at their apprentice with a calm expression. If anything Frog'Fern wanted to
comfort the apprentice but they didn't know if they would be accepted to "I don't know
anything about your past neither do i want to.. the past is the past and my words didn't
mean anything, Not to you. I can see you as a brave and loyal warrior Moon'Paw
" Frog'Fern paused allowing moonpaw to take in their words.

"Moon'Paw for all i could know you could be a legend you just have to work for it and
crying and getting upset about it won't do nothing but it's okay to do so every now and
then" Frog'Fern sighed and licked their dry jaws "I'm not a speech giver" they'd
mumble softly then flicked their tail and walked out "If this place gives you this much
overwhelming emotion would you want me to go somewhere else?

Something inside of moonpaw seamed to shift and it was like a grip on her had been released. No,no I must train here! I need to know this place anyways so let’s get hunting frogfern! she meowed. Her tail gently swaying by the ground.

They nodded "Alright come to the waters edge when your ready Moon'Paw"
Frog'fern then left Moon'Paw there. The waters edge was foamy and quick,
if Moon'Paw properly knew how to swim then she'd have a successful training
but if she didn't then Frog'Fern might have to teach her somewhere that
is more appropriate.

When they finally sat down they stared at the surface remembering the
first time they had failed to come up and gave up. With a sigh Frog'Fern
gently submerged their fore'paw in the fringed water there fur spiked and
it took most of their might not to yank their paw away.
