Re: Survival of the Fishiest: Water Combat Training [ OPEN TO WARRIORS AND APPRENTICE
Snakeheart really didnt get a moment to answer his question and explain if he was also supposed to try the first move on Palepaw or if he was just supposed to use the mollys movements as an example or what. No as soon as possible they were moving on to the next one and the tom decided it was best to just go with the flow and focus on trying it, he could play catch up later on his own time. After all the next attack was an ambush and Snakeheart was fairly certain he could do it.
Stepping back and diving underwater Snakeheart basically disappeared under the choppy surface, the disturbance kicked up by the others in the creek disguising his movements completely. So it really was a sort of surprise when he exploded from the depths doing his best to slap Palepaw and sort of... Latching onto her head instead as the much larger molly didnt budge from his attack. Whatever it was a success even if it turned out to not as much be a pawed slap but a fully bodied one to the face. If she sagged from his weight that'd count as him dragging her down too right? Yeah so this was totally on purpose and Snakeheart was laughing silently not trying to dislodge the water that had gotten up his nose and only jerking because he felt the damp in his ears. Diving underwater was just not his thing even when he did well at it and he'd let go and drop back down after not too long.

“Woah!” Landing back in the water with a splash, their entire body was submerged for a few moments. They quickly resurfaced, shaking off as much water as possible before it came time for the next attack. With their thick fur now fully soaked and weighing them down, things were about to get a bit more difficult.

"Sorry youngster," Starlingflight chuckled as she waded back into position. "Here's a tip when a bigger cat launches at you like that; grapple them back, and then kick off their body with your hind legs when they try to pull you under, or throw you aside." The black and white molly purred rustily as she shook the water from her cheekfur. "It will give you the uphill advantage, and disorientate them in the water." This was training after all, and as such, countermoves were important to learn as well.

“Alright, I‘ll give it my best. If you must laugh please do it when I’m below water, spare me some embarrassment,” she joked.
Taking a deep breath Frostfeather dove underwater. Opening her eyes she could make the outline of Amberpaw’s shape. She swam forward, switched her positions and planted her paws in the ground. Her breath running out, she gave a tremendous push of her legs upward, going blindly for the apprentice above water.
This was harder than it looked. Using the hind legs meant that you left it up to chance whether your legs could grip the enemy.
Her legs broke the water and she felt them slowly fall around amberpaws shoulders. She gave a sharp tug but she felt her legs slip away from the smaller shescats body and fall empty back in the water.
She resubmitted, slightly grasping for air.
“Ah well at least I felt you,” she purred, happy that her attack had at least landed.
“Alright let’s redeem this team with your attempt now!”
|
She nodded, taking a deep breath and diving underwater quickly. She could see Frostfeather pretty easily, and planted her paws in the ground as fast as she could. She wasn’t that great at holding her breath, so she’d have to do this as quickly as possible. She knew she had no chance of dragging her down, so she decided to try the other option. She leapt out of the water, slapping Frostfeather across the face with her paw, before landing awkwardly back in the stream.

Frostfeather watched the apprentice disappear under the water, her tail lashing in anticipation.
When Amberpaw leaped put of the water she was surprised to see the she cat coming at her face first her in her second of confusion she suddenly felt Amberpaw’s paw slap her across her face.
She staggered backwards and gave a small laugh.
“Well done Amberpaw, that was very good! However I do think there was something different in your attack?”

“Well, yeah! She said we could push them away or swipe at them! I wasn’t gonna be able to push you away, I’ve felt your attack! So I decided to get an attack off anyways. Was that not right?”

Re: Survival of the Fishiest: Water Combat Training [ OPEN TO WARRIORS AND APPRENTICE
Palepaw shook herself off after stepped out of the water, eye sliding over to watch Snakeheart slip into the water before turning to face the pond and waited for the impending attack.
As the Medicine Cat exploded from the water, she did her best not to instinctively reach foward and slap him away from her, instead flinching backwards a step before locking herself in place, remembering this was part of the exercise, paw having already raised itself to try and bat him away before setting it back to the ground.
She nearly shrieks with laughter as the wiry tom wrapped his paws around her in an attempt to use his weight to drag her down, choking back just enough of the sound it came out as a shrill bark instead as she stumbled foward, effectively setting him back down on the ground.

Wolfsong gasped as she returned to the surface and lashed her tail, casting droplets of water around her. "Great job Streampelt! That was perfect!" She purred, water streaming from her silver fur.

Moonfrost ducked her head below the water and slithered forward towards where Cloverdew was standing. She reached her paws out towards the blurred figure... and pulled down a leaf from a hanging plant. Surprise lit her eyes as she broke the surface again, and discovered she had ended up a tail length from where Cloverdew actually was. I missed... she thought, ears drooping in disappointment

Re: Survival of the Fishiest: Water Combat Training [ OPEN TO WARRIORS AND APPRENTICE
◤━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━◥
As Kestrelstar took another lap around the island, his yellow eyes observed his warriors. It was a toss up of those who were getting it and those who were.. flailing. But that's what the purpose of this training exercise was. A way for apprentices and warriors to prepare for the upcoming conflict. With all the tension on the border, peace would soon break and when it did, his cats would be ready.
"Willowvine. Yellowpaw. I see that your hunger has trumped your desire to strengthen your battle skills," Kestrelstar snapped as the two had come back from a food break. It was distasteful, especially since the rest of those training didn't stop to get a break. "Yellowpaw, while I understand that Willowvine was paired with you for this exercise, I do not appreciate your bad words directed at Frostfeather. She had done a great job with you," he shot towards the apprentice, a disappointed look on his face. Without saying more the leader simply gave a snort and went on examining the rest of his Clan.
Yellow eyes caught a glimpse of Frostfeather and the apprentice she was with, Amberpaw. She was a good warrior, and he gave a nod as he watched the two. "You don't always have to reach their neck - striking up towards their chest will also do the trick," he advised the warrior, and glanced towards Amberpaw. "That was right, Amberpaw. In a real battle, that would've stunned the enemy."
The next duo to catch his attention was Palepaw and Snakeheart. He knew well enough that the she-cat was about due for her assessment, but he hadn't seen her reassigned mentor Beansprout anywhere. He didn't say anything, instead watching the two with amusement causing his whiskers to twitch. It was obvious the tom hadn't much warrior training under his belt, though he hoped soon he'd be able to change that.
"We've got two moves left that we're going to try! This next one works well, especially if the cat your facing can't swim. You can either start underwater, or on the surface," the leader began, walking as if he was sliding through water. He then reared up on his hind legs, bringing his paws down onto imaginary shoulders and pressing them into the ground as he landed. "You'll want to use their waterlogged weight to bring them under the surface, either holding them down with your forepaws or hind legs - if you manage to get them that far under." The gray tabby lifted one hind leg and slammed it down to demonstrate. "This move is effective if you allow them to come up a bit for air, before plunging them back down."
Was this a ruthless move? Of course. But so were the violent deaths of all the lost RiverClan warriors. They needed to be prepared.
