Exiting the camp was simple enough, with the whole patrol was definitely harder. “Alrightly, Folks! With our new medicine cat and her apprentice, we are on the search for anything that made aid them both. We are also on the hunt for prey, the pile still needs to be filled from the formal. I’m splitting us into two groups! So listen up! Chickadeesong, you’re with Galebird and Pumpkinpatch, you three should get along fine, and lastly Bumblestar, you’re with me!” Yeah, did they have a reason to be with Bumblestar? Yes, they needed to chat and hopefully have a calm one, searching for herbs and prey would keep it a calm discussions. “We meet up back here by dusk? Is that alright with everyone, I didn’t expect as many cats..haha” Houndchaser mewed through the territory before finishing with this last statement. “As Spiderthroat said, if the plant looks even the smallest bit useful, bring it back with us. It with undoubtedly get sorted out” The warrior flicked their tail, padding back up to the smaller Shecat. “Let’s get started, shall we?” then something extremely important popped in their brain, calling it out to everyone. “ Hey! This is also extremely important, We’re also on the lookout for Alderkit. Mapleface reported them missing, asked me to keep an eye open for her kit. If you see them, take them back to camp at once!”

Bumblestar followed the group out, remaining silent for the most part. An herb search was simple enough and she didn't think it required any further discussion, not from her, at least. She glanced at the others, then turned to follow Houndchaser and leave her other patrolmates to their own devices.

Look for herbs and prey, check. Keep an eye out for Alderkit, check. Pray this outing with the other warrior didn't turn into an argument she didn't have the energy to deal with... definitely check.

"We should keep an eye out for marigold, whatever berries we can find... maybe burdock, too, just in case." Rats hadn't been an issue since the day Bumblestar helped sweep out the Mossy Den, but who knew?

Sparrowfur stretched and made her way over to the shade underneath Firestream, flopping down rather ungracefully by the tree before grooming her paw and lazily dragging it over her dark dabby face. She felt a leaf fall gently above her and upon looking up, she nearly jumped three feet in the air. She let a sigh of relief escape her before she chuckled.
"Didn't see you there Firestream! Good view?" she mewed

One of her ears angled towards Gentledoe as the other she-cat spoke, voicing Galebird's own thoughts when she said the spot shouldn't be hard to find, but the last sentence stuck in Galebird's mind. "I don't want to take the risk of remaining in the area for too long, especially since a warrior was just killed here." This was their own territory, they should not have to be afraid and on the lookout for murders when walking in their home. From the day she joined Thunderclan, she had worked towards building a good sense of safety around herself and her clanmates - be it reinforcing the dens and walls when she found nothing better to do or keeping an eye out for when her clanmates seemed hurt, it had always been important, and anything or anyone coming to rip that away from her... she had to find out who did this and make sure they wouldn't come back.

 

Her thoughts were interrupted by the thick and heavy cloud of scent they seemed to have walked into, and it wasn't hard to see where Darkpetal had been killed. Slowly drying blood spilled, smeared, and splattered all around the spot, staining the forest floor in a deep red, gradually turning more brown-like as the blood dried. Pushing through the disgust the smell dragged up in her chest, Galebird took a few more steps to go around the blood, searching for any more clues that could have been left behind. Any pawprints leading away that they could follow and possibly find a smell where blood wasn't pushing every other scent away. She saw some fur here and there, but it was all too covered in blood to even see if it was dark or brown.

"You're not being realistic," She whisper - just to herself, unsure if the others were even able to hear it - and walked around the blood to get back to her patrol. "No," She answered to Gentledoe. "And yeah, we should head back." She would still seek out Dovefluff to ask more about this, anything to make her home a good and safe place again.

The meeting was over, and Galebird had found herself with the urge to be productive (again, she wasn't great at feeling passive), so when a few of her clanmates had gotten together for a quick resource-finding patrol, she had been happy to come along. They were a total of five cats, a bit larger than a patrol tended to be, so she was hardly surprised when Houndchaser suggested they'd split into two groups - or rather, commanded, but considering they had the first one to decide to go on the patrol, Galebird supposed they could take the lead here, if anyone was to oppose that, it would be Bumblestar, but the leader remained quiet so Galebird thought nothing more of it. She was completely fine with not being with the leader at the moment, even if there were some things she would have liked to discuss, and instead, split off from Houndchaser and the leader with her two other patrol mates to go in a different direction.

One ear angled back and she glanced over her shoulder as Houndchaser added the things about Alderkit, nodded shortly response, and tried to hide the slight sting the news of the missing kit had brought as she walked with Chickadeesong and Pumpkinpatch. She was about to ask them if they had any preference for what they'd look for; herbs or pery, but that thought was interrupted but a slight rustle among the small plants ahead of her, and the sweet scent of blackbird once she tasted the air. With smooth and experienced movements Galebird slunk ahead of Chickadeesong and Pumpkinpatch (after giving them a quick signal with her tail to inform them what she was going to do) and stalked after the bird. It was much too busy trying to drag a worm out of the soft soil to notice the silver-furred hunter coming towards it, and with a quick pounce forward and bit, the feathery created dropped head in her jaws.

Pumpkinpatch walked silently with the other warriors as Houndchaser stopped and explained what they were doing. She nodded her head in response to Houndchaser.

"Alright, Chickadeesong, since Galebird left us on our own, we should look for herbs, " Pumpkinpatch stated. She waited for the warrior to join her as she walked away.

The giant maine coon mix had attention this was great! They werent all totally into it, weird Mudhound thought all youngins were the battle obsessed type until they matured with age and stuff, but they'd ease into the flow once things started.



The little apprentice with the crippled leg like Mudhound didnt seem totally excited yet, they could actually understand that best not many mentors trained for cats missing a whole limb. Him of so little faith! The warrior was missing the exact same leg and fought just fine! They'd go teaching Ripplepaw a thing or two here today that was for sure.
Then there was the more concerning case.... the tiny molly looked almost... Sick when the warrior started explaining. A real divergence from how happy she was when they walked over here. It was kinda worrying but this was a lesson the apprentices really needed to learn, it could be life or death. So yeah working through this to some degree was key before they started was important and the warrior sat down expression open and concerned and head cocked.
At least the other two apprentices were into it and keen to help Pebblepaw too and Mudhound shot Goldenpaw and Wolfpaw a wide grin at that. They'd have to wait a moment but internally the warrior promised they'd all get started soon.


"You cant Pebblepaw? Well thats too bad this is gonna be really fun an' I know I seem big to such a little thing but I promise Im all fluff." Mudhound sunk a paw into their especially fluffy (and pudgy, blame their primordial pouch not them!) belly with a giggle before winking and tacking on seriously. "But if you really cant do it thats ok. You can try then sit out or just practice solo moved until we're done. But I just need to know why ok? No judgement I just need to know." The normally carefree cat was strikingly honest and open, as Mudhound was often capable of doing and they truely wouldnt think badly of Pebblepaw. But if the apprentice wanted to stay away she'd need to at least confront why she was doing so. At least then some progress would be made for her sake, one was or another in a way that shouldnt break her entirely.



Suddenly remembering the warrior tacked on a "It doesnt have to be in front of the others too, we can go off to the side and talk while they stretch if you want." The shaggy cat had long been told 'privacy was important even if you dont care for it' so they'd keep to that lest their grandmother appear from nowhere and drag them off by their ear.

"I was bad and got hurt and... got good cats killed. I um... Cinderpaw helped train us a little bit ago and I got scared then too. I dunno when the scary feelings will go away but..." A shrug - half hearted and pathetic. Just like how she felt. Backing down again, right when she had a chance to actually learn something. Was this going to be the same song and dance for the rest of her life? Would Wolfie and Golden become warriors without her? Would they... forget about her? Or worse... would they suffer the same fate those three from before had because of her? No. She couldn't let that happen.

"I can be brave, I've got to be if I want to protect my brothers and the rest of my family." She thought of Foxflurry, Sorreldust and Crowpaw. Cats who - along with Wolfpaw and Goldenpaw - couldn't meet the same fate as those three warriors. She would need to be strong like Cinderpaw had been during their training session. Brave like Goldenpaw was when he stood up to Flameheart. She couldn't keep panicking in the face of danger. The feeling of Wolfpaw's fur on her side and Goldenpaw's bright smile calmed her nerves. "I'm going to be scared but um - I do wanna try please."

Besides, the warrior promised fun right? Pebs could do fun.

Hmmm. This was a complex little cat wasnt it. Though a lot of apprentices seemed to be, changed and hardened by clan life. Maybe thats why granny Houndsong had taken half of Mudhounds litter and left the clan and why the two siblings that were currently in thunderclan were so different. Deep thoughts for another time. What was a thought for now was Pebblepaws survivors guilt and incorrect assumption of responsibility for the event. The tripod internally wondered if this was something Pebblepaw rationally knew was incorrect and just internalized or if she honestly believed it and resolved to later sit the apprentice down and try and talk her through it. But again now was not the time.


What was the time was healthy boundaries and making sure this wouldnt go to far for everyone! Mudhound could do that. First though... "That sounds like a horrible situation and Im sorry you had to go through that. But the 'scary feelings' dont really have to go away actually. You just have to be able to live with them. I mean look at my leg." The warrior rotated their stump up to the group showing the ever bare patch of scar that capped a now useless limb. "I went through a bad thing and now Im petrified of dogs. Like once I couldnt do anything but curl into a ball and shiver at a far off bark so scared and you wanna know something? Im still terrified. I just know how to act through the fear. I dont let it take living life from me or stop me. Feeling the fear doesnt make you not brave and being willing to try even if you are scared? That's brave to me! So you've kinda done it already, good job!" Mudhound really meant it and was all too proud of the little molly already beaming at her as they wagged a bit.


"But to make sure this stays fun Im gonna put one rule in place. Besides the no claws thing though, duh. If anyone gets scared and wants to stop immediately just say 'stop' or stomp three times if you cant speak for any reason. If you start to feel off but dont wanna stop completely just say 'slow' or stomp two times, we can stop doing the specific thing that made you worry or just dial things back. If you get asked if youre ok and wanna continue just say 'clear' or stomp once! And if anyone makes fun of anyone for doing this then uuuuuuuuh..." What was a good threat? Oh! Got one! "Then Ill dunk you in the river! And boot you out of the lesson! Everyone clear?" Mudhound would wait for replies before chirping "Good!"

Finally ready to start the warrior happily stood, shaking themselves off and grinning excited to test their insticts on the point of this lesson."Alright so Im an evil large warrior breaking into your camp! I wanna get in there," The tripod pointed as the other cave wall 5 fox lengths away from the group. "And you have to stop me by any means. This is a trial for you to figure things out a bit them we'll get into techniques so dont stress. I just wanna see what each of you thinks of. Now try and take me down! Go!" With the excited barked order Mudhound kicked into motion and.... walked. Slowly. Steadily. With paws firmly planted walked with all their strength behind their paws, tail tucked in, and head down and forward. This was kinda a trick lesson here, sure the tripod wanted to see some of their fighting techniques but.... They'd find them useless without claws to back up the moves with pain. And none of the 'paws alone would even slow the giant maine coon. Hell even two wouldnt manage it. Mudhound was just to strong. The warrior would just keep walking. Maybe they'd get clever with the tactics or maybe they'd figure out the point. Against a warrior, much less a large one, you usually needed others at your back and working with you.


It was also fun to be fair. Mudhound was basically offering themselves to just take all kinds of trouble with a grin letting the hellions run wild to warm up.

Sorreldust followed Thunderblaze into the territory, her movements felt.... like they were in slow motion. She couldn't seem to make herself walk fast enough for her brain, but as long as she could keep up, she wouldn't mention it.
Whatever, time to focus on hunting.

Ripplepaw dragged his hind leg quickly over to mudhound as he kept walking. He then used his good hind leg to roll onto his back and under Mudhound and began to pummle at his belly with his front claws while his back paw slid him.
