WindClan: Life Before 2023's Fire

It was funny how a mere change in rank and added lives would make her words have enough weight to make a cat grin as Racconcloud did. Even though she had already come to terms with this new rank of hers, it was baffling that she was the leader of Windclan. Unlike the rank of a deputy, which she hadn't wanted nor felt like it fit her, she fell into the role of a leader easily. The she-cat's never had anything close to ambitious thoughts or intentions, when others dreamed of becoming a clan leader she dreamed of being an elder. Retiring early and living an easy life, she's always been more of a loner. Her lackadaisical nature made it difficult for her to bother with forming connections or fretting about much of anything. Now things had changed, more so then she had ever imagined.

Her tail swished back and forth as her head slowly tilted itself to the side in that birdlike manner that had made her eldest brother wonder why she hadn't been named after an owl. She could read the mischievous from the tom and his following words drew her eyes towards the sky. Twlightstar knew he was just playing with her, it brought an unusual feeling of mirth to her chest. She returns her vibrant emerald orbs back to the tom with the smallest of smiles. Seldom did she smile with her lips, instead of her eyes always shone, and it is this radiance that often gave others the irresistible impulse to smile, too, for this smiling of the eyes is the most sincere and pure emotion that she'd show.

It's been some time since someone's bothered to tease her like this. Her eyes rolled as he described a cat that looked eerily similar to her. "Hahaha, a real joker." She muttered to herself with a cheeky glint in her optics, digging her paw into the soft snow beneath her and hauled a small clump up. She casually tossed it at the tom's face to let him know how she felt about his joke. It was an impulsive action but felt right so she didn't fight it. An old friend taught her that when it came to little things like playing just go with the flow. She was getting the hang of it bit by bit. The lilac gray molly was up on her paws and moving away from Racconcloud before he could get any ideas, they were supposed to be hunting not messing about in the snow! The warrior was a horrible influence.

Pebblepaw shuffled his paws as different thoughts crossed his mind. He did have his own version of the story, but it might now actually help. On the contrary, it could be seen as something worse to visit his old family, when he had pledged loyalty to Windclan a long time ago. Still, he didn't want to lie to his leader, either.
"I... I wanted to visit my family. I haven't seen them in a really long while and- and yeah," he said, leaving it at that. Twilightstar could probably recall that Pebblepaw had switched from Riverclan to Windclan early on as an apprentice, before any of this conflict had started. "I understand it was wrong," he decided to add, in the end.

Lynxsight nodded to Warblerpaw as the apprentice strolled over, offering a smile. "Hello, Warblerpaw!" Now where was hers? She tossed her head around. Hiya! There he is. The tabby took a step away so she could keep an eye on him better, then her ears picked up Leopardflare's voice. She turned to him, nodding a greeting.

She turned her head at -- Twilightstar's? -- voice. She remained quiet through the conversation between to two (after all, it didn't really concern her). She only felt a twinge of pity for Twilightstar. Poor cat's working herself crazy!

Well, let's get on with it! She turned to the two apprentices. "Alright, I only have one rule for training: keep your paws sheathed. We don't actually want to hurt anybody!" She smiled outwardly; inwardly, her stomach tangled. StarClan, she didn't like being the leader! She could talk to Goatpaw, no problem, but it was harder talking to someone else's apprentice too. What if she said something he didn't agree with? She flicked her greenish gaze to Leopardflare. "Do you have anything to add before we continue?"

Cranepaw looked quickly between Coldsong and Bramblebear, unconsciously shuffling closer to her. "Wait, th-that was advice?" he half-whispered to her, voice coarse. Dare he think it, Coldsong sure had a funny perception of things...mostly himself. A flicker of hope lit in him at the thought of actual training, not just some cat spouting orders and expecting that to go over perfectly. It was refreshing, a chance to start anew! "Really?" he squeaked out. "If you don't mind, that'dbenice!" The last words rushed together with his eye-twitch acting up, and he inwardly promised that he'd do his best for her. Addressing her last question, he replied, "I don't know alot... not anything. Co-oldsong tried but h-he," Cranepaw dropped his meow to a whisper, "errr, his advice is about as good as h-his teaching."

She couldn't help the sigh that breathed through her lips. "Ignore," the she-cat said, pointedly turning away from Coldsong. Her lips quirked into a thin smile at the apprentice, hoping to calm him down. "Will teach good. Become warrior." Bramblebear nodded in affirmation before looking up at Twilightstar, narrowing her eyes at the announcement. She was already testing her lives? The silver tabby stifled the urge to roll her eyes. Nine lives didn't make her invincible!

T-Twilightstar?

Confused crossed his blue eyes staring at the leader with a bubbly feelings rising from the depths of the tom's heart. It wasn't rage, no, it was amusement! "Haha! hah!," a small cackle escaped, shutting his jaw to contain his laughter. "I'm sorry-," he laughed loudly, throwing head up toward the sky as it flows out. After a minute or so the apprentice took a couple of deep breaths before resting his gaze on Twilightstar. "I know that you can lead- being a leader and all but I don't recall you being a fighter or a hunter- what can you possibly teach me?" Warblerpaw lifted his paw to draw over his watering eyes to swipe away his tears. "Honestly, I'm intrigued! Show me what you got." Wow, this is the first time I'm pumped for something. Warblerpaw flickered his gaze at the others who began their session. The calico gestured a 'wait' with a raise of his fluffy tail and did some stretches so that he won't be stiff or cramp during whatever training in store for him.
"Huh?" hearing another cat's voice, he turned back to see the older bengal striding in. "You think so?" scanning at his sleek down fur. "Hmph! Sleek or ruffled, I'll still look ravishing as always." Head ticking back and forth at the leader and warrior his patience dwindled in mere seconds letting out a frustrating sigh. "Can we start, darlings? The sun won't stay up in the sky forever you know."

This headache was going to turn into a migraine and that is how she's going to lose her first life. The leader's swung her head in the direction of the tom as he waltzed in. She was finding Leopardflare to be a pain in her rear end, saying one thing doing another. She knows she makes this leader thing look easy, but it really wasn't. It would be nice if some of her clanmates took that into consideration and tried not to be a bother to her. Twilightstar figured she was asking for too much, obviously.
She glanced down at Warblerpaw who just had to be a critic. He did know that she was a warrior before she was a leader right? How would she have become one if she didn't have any basic skills in fighting or hunting? Hunting took more effort then it did fighting in her opinion so she was a bit lacking in that department, but she could hunt. "As much as I would love to make you eat your words I've got other things to do since your mentor's here." She told Warblerpaw, purposely turning and lashing out with her tail to try and catch the cheeky apprentice in the face with it.
As she moved to walk pass Leopardflare, she could not resist the urge to extending a forepaw and went to cuff him lightly over the head. "You're going to feel bad if I pass away from stress and Brightsky's your leader again." She retorted, although like her cuff there was little heat with her words. She was stuck dealing with a bunch of clowns, lovely.
"Goatpaw, Lynxsight have fun with training, hopefully, you two can teach these airheads a thing or two about respect. Let me know if they don't behave." She called over her shoulder while waving her tail in a farewell gesture. As stressed out as she truly was, Twilightstar really didn't want to be one of those grumpy, worrywarts, who let stress rule their lives. It was time for a much-needed nap.

Twilightstar continued to frown as Pebblepaw explained his desire to see his family. It was an excuse but not a very good one. He did seem to understand what he did was wrong so she wouldn't make it as difficult as she would had he not added the last part. "Well, I was going to keep you from going to next Gathering," she started, gatherings were a time to meet all those cats you left behind in other clans so it seemed like a fitting punishment. "However, since you appear to understand what you did wrong I'll be lenient. For the next three sunrises, you're confined to camp. I want the dens cleaned out, prey given to the queens and elders, the normal apprentice duties all done. Moorfoot can help you." She looked to the warrior. It was nice that he had kept Pebblepaw from crossing the border but Pebblepaw shouldn't have gotten so close to the border in the first place. He hadn't been looking after the young one properly so he'd bear part of the responsibility. She waited to see if they had any complaints about it.
Her eyes flickered in the direction of the gathered cats off to the side. Foxpudge's dark pelt stood out to her and reminded her that she should probably tell him he could leave camp now. She hadn't been specific about how long he and Tawnystep were stuck in camp. It took some staring before she figured out why it was there so many cats gathered around him, even Mistyfern was there which was weird. It seemed like they were building something. She couldn't tell what it was from here, however, that did little to dissuade her urge to walk over there and go "RAWR! I am Lionstar!" and then proceed to destroy whatever it was they built, Lionstar was the only leader with a name she could go rawr with. Anyway, not only would it be funny to see their faces it wasn't like they could punish her for it since she was their leader. It would pass the time and relieve her stress. Her tail curled with glee at the thought.

Distracted by his exercise and constantly checking for any tufts sticking out on his chest the tom raised his head up to a face full of fur smacking his face. He shook his head sending blue daggers at Twilightstar for tail swatting him. His nose wrinkled up, flashing his fangs. She definitely did that on purpose! "Hmph!" he said loudly, nose up in the air. Ear twitched, a slow forming frown pull down on his black lips at the words of 'Brightsky'. That damn cat didn't do squat for Windclan as leader. If she returns back to her position then you might as well wipe out Windclan forever. Comparing the two, it hurts him to say that Twilightstar is definitely doing a better job than Brightsky has ever done within the many moons of leadership. And wouldn't Starclan be sick of our crap by the constant switching roles from leader to deputy and deputy to leader? That must be a lot of work for our sparkling saviors in the sky. Warblerpaw side glance the light coloured leader. If that ever comes out of my mouth then may the stars strike me down under. "How rude," he said but she was already on her way leaving the moor. Respect is earned, madam! The calico apprentice was still unsure about her motives. Facing back at Leopardflare, Goatpaw, and Lynxsight, he reeled back his attitude and let his ease seep back to his gaze, relaxing again. "Sorry," clearing his throat he pad over to the two nodding for Leopardflare to come over. Warblerpaw kinda likes his new mentor after throwing some sass at the Windclan leader.

Nodding, the conversation was going out surprisingly well until she mentioned herself volunteering on this risky journey. Oi vay. Warblerpaw made a sudden, sharp hiss at whoever mentioned Coldsong taking over deputy role and the name Brightsky made him sick. He glared at Twilightstar, "If that's your decision then please put a proper cat in charge while you're gone. We need to send out patrols A.S.A.P! Those mongrels must've reported back to their clan leader already about our borders being almost nonexistent. We need to maintain what we have here and sorry for being the constant jackass of meetings but I don't fully trust Brightsky to watch over us all." The calico looked right and left trying to spot a certain feline. Talking about her, where is she? Damn her. It feels like she does this every time when her attendance counts, escaping to do whatever she does on her spare time. It's probably a mega relief now that she's dumb down to deputy status. Sadly the next cat up is ..Coldsong. He is quite favored by Twilightstar so it wouldn't be surprising if she put him in charge. Ugh.
The headaches never ends here.
