Eventually they would end up would end up outside camp, trodding through the territory. ”Alright, Cloudedpaw- tell me what you smell.” She instructed, looking pointedly at her apprentice. Once again, her tone was firm but her eyes were warm. She clearly had high hopes for her first apprentice. ”I’m not sure if your previous mentor took you out of camp much, so tell me what you know- or what you’d like to practice more.” Willowfrost instructed again.

Larkswoop paid no attention to Willowfrost as the four cats emerged from ThunderClan´s camp and into their territory. The queen took a deep breath. Finally! Fresh air. She was tired of being stuck in camp twenty-four seven.

Green eyes flicked to Ravenpaw´s own green hues. ´´Tell me what you can scent,´´ She instructed with a wave of her plumed tail. ´´I want to know what prey scents you can and cannot detect.´´

I...Bluemoon didn't teach me anything. Cloudedpaw mewed, his voice low. He lifted his muzzle and sniffed the air, hoping he would scent something... something special. I smell cats. He retorted, not meeting her eyes.

Larkswoop opened her jaws to take in the scents. ´´Squirrel, yes,´´ The tabby mewed, her ears twitching. ´´The vole and mouse scents are strong, too. Go for the vole, it´s the easiest of the three.´´ She instructed her apprentice, flicking her tail tip to signal to Willowfrost and Cloudedpaw to crouch down.

Willowfrost’s tail twitched in exasperation at Cloudedpaw’s reply. ”Of course you smell cats.” She rolled her eyes, but gently laid a tail on Cloudedpaw’s shoulder. ”It’s okay, it’s not your fault you had a lousy mentor before. We’ll take it one step at a time.” She murmured to her apprentice before quickly straightening up. She nodded approvingly at Ravenpaw as the young she-cat quickly detected several scents. ”Good job, Ravenpaw.” She praised, turning back to Cloudedpaw. She scowled once again as Larkswoop tried bossing her and Cloudedpaw around, but conceded that it was a good lesson for him to watch another apprentice. She shot an annoyed look at her sister, but crouched down next to Cloudedpaw. ”Watch and learn from Ravenpaw’s hunting crouch. Once you see how she does it, if she does well, we can practice that together. I bet you’ll be able to catch something on your first try.” She whispered encouragingly.

Larkswoop´s ears twitched and she whipped around to glare at Willowfrost through furious green hues. ´´Get. Down.´´ She hissed faintly, voice low.

Her ears perked up at the sound of rustling. The vole must have heard her littermate´s loud mews and had run off. Getting to her paws, Larkswoop let out a sharp hiss of frustration. ´´Now you´ve done it, Willowfrost! Keep your voice down so we can actually catch something.´´ Green eyes flicked to Ravenpaw. ´´Try for the squirrel.´´

Larkswoop would depart from the patrol with Ravenpaw, but the apprentices weren't allowed to be out of camp without two warriors. As far as Larkswoop was concerned, she and Willowfrost were those two warriors.

Alright, going for the vole.
Ravenpaw went into the hunting crouch, and started stalking toward the scent of the vole.
She soon spotted it.

Ravenpaw bunched up her muscles, and theeeen...

She successfully landed on the vole, giving the killing bite.

Cloudedpaw nodded, his gaze burning into Ravenpaw's pelt. He watched her every move, then realized he was still standing. He crouched down, trying not to make noise as leaves crumpled beneath his feet.
