Slatestripe rolled his eyes at his uncle, playfully. “Yeah, yeah, and I’m sure there were hundreds of fish in the river too. So many you couldn’t even see past them!” He gave Pondwhisker a joking shove in return, keeping it light in case the old warrior was lying about his bones. It wouldn’t be the first time.

"That's right! So many fish, we were fat and happy all year long!" He laughed as his nephew shoved him, not moving much. He flicked a paw over his ear with another hearty laugh. "Come on, now. Let's try to find some breakfast!" He lumbered out of the warriors den, and into the clearing to find some food.

Slatestripe rolled his eyes again at his uncle’s clear exaggeration. He was used to it by now, and honestly he knew he’d miss it if his uncle wasn’t around. Still, he wasn’t going to let Pondwhisker know that. He’d never hear the end of it!

He hesitated as the other warrior invited him to eat. “The weather’s rather bad out. I might just stay here. Don’t feel like you can’t go because of me, though.”

Rainfern felt every muscle in her small body stretch out when she rose from the comfortable mossy bed where she slept. She saw her crush, Lilyleaf walk by, every single hair on her pelt standing on edge, willing herself to just go talk to Lilyleaf and express her feelings.

Fogcloud was curled in her nest, trying to keep herself warm.

She entered the den and saw Fogcloud shivering in her sleep. "You look cold" she whispered softly as she sat down next to Fogcloud and put her fluffy tail over Fogcloud. She soon fell asleep beside her with her tail over Fogcloud's body

Back in Shadowclan she would be out in the night, but her nerves were getting the better of her and she felt safe and comfortable with her adopted clanmates. She was in a deep sleep up until she felt movements from another warrior. She opened up her left eye to see Slatestripe. Was something bothering him? Her concern for her clanmate forced her to get up. Without waking everyone else up she moved over to him. "Hey is everything alright?", Marigoldleap asked in a whisper. Little did she know this cat didn't trust her.

As Slatestripe sat and thought, a cat stirred not far from him and voiced their concern. Fittingly, it was Marigoldleap. This would be a good opportunity for him to get to know her better. “Ah, I’m just having a hard time sleeping. I was thinking of taking a walk.”

Curling deeper into her nest, the silver she-cat squinted her eyes closed, nose under her tail to hide the tears that coated her cheek fur. Her little sister, Nightleap, had vanished, and it had been a few sunrises since she had seen or scented her girlfriend, Fawnleap. The repeating cycle caused the darkness to well in her chest once more, and a shiver ran up her spine. Shuffling slightly, she buried herself deeper in the moss and reeds, hoping that perhaps if she shrank down enough she might sink into the earth below.
