Emberkit walked out of the nursery, wondering what all the yelling was for. Cats were shouting Sparrowflight's name. Ok! She joined in the chanting. "Sparrowflight! Sparrowflight!" Her high-pitched voice was barely heard over everyone else's voices but she was happy to do this. For her Clan.

The first voice to speak up was Crowfire. Cindersky turned her gaze onto the newly made warrior, unable to conceal the shock as he spoke her name back to her. That shock only increased as Gentlepaw stepped up to flank her Clanmate. Their words were nothing that Cindersky had not heard (mostly from her parents growing up) but the implication and intention they held was enough to leave her silent.
They were not the only ones to speak her name. Several of ThunderClan began to step up, voicing their agreement. Speaking her name. Her name. Why were they speaking her name? Robinflight, Sandsmoke, Crowfire, Gentlepaw, Dovecloud, Moosecrash, Mothflight, Breezewind, Sunshadow, Rainhound, Pinecrash, Hawkice, Brightpath, Dimhazel... even Cloudyflight, her former apprentice who she had worked so hard to bridge the gap with. So many that Cindersky could no longer keep a simple count of them.
In the roar of her name she also detected the voices of those who were less than enthusiastic. Batblood was the most prominent, and a larger part of Cindersky than she would ever admit found herself agreeing with him. She had led them into a battle that had cost two cats their lives, plus countless other injuries and deaths on the side of RiverClan. His concern, as much as some of her Clanmates did not acknowledge it, was valid.
She briefly held his gaze, a certain understanding shining through. Never again would a Clanmate in ThunderClan feel as though they could not voice their opinion, and Cindersky would at least see to that regardless of whatever happened.
A few cats in particular stood out to her in their answers. The first was Stagbound, who spoke of his support so long as Cindersky did not forget about him. Her whiskers twitched, maw twisting into a soft smile. She did not think she had it in her to really forget any of her Clanmates (which, speaking of, the absence of Cinderpaw was gnawing away at her heart more and more...).
Among the voices were those who called for different options. Sparrowflight was voiced, and Cindersky had to agree. The young she-cat had proven herself a formidable leadership force in the past few moons (a quality that the apprentices of Ridgeclaw all seemed to possess). Jaystride too of course, and it was clear why as he had been the one to pioneer the camp repairs, lead a battle patrol, and overall be a connection between the older warriors and apprentices.
Hawkice was another voice she heard from Dovecloud, and her gaze went to find the young tom. He had proven himself worthy, as it had been asked of him all those moons ago. During the aftermath in the battle his help had been substantial in transporting those who had been hurt and wounded, and something that Cindersky had been forever grateful for.
One cat even voiced their vote for Nectarflame as deputy, and Cindersky attempted to locate the golden bengal in the crowd. What would she think of the nomination? She, herself, had already forgiven the she-cat for her past mistakes. And perhaps, just maybe, the rest of the Clan was on the way to doing so as well.
After the voices died down a little, Cindersky stepped forward. She remained silent for a moment, her blue gaze sweeping across the crowd. This was her home, her Clan. Cats that she loved to the deepest degree. Cats that she would do absolutely anything for. And they wanted her to be their leader... "I... All of my life, ever since I was given my apprentice name, I have had one clear goal in my life; to serve ThunderClan to the best of my ability. I wanted to work hard and dedicate myself to the growth of the home I loved so much. Never did I feel called to lead, nor did I ever expect to." Great StarClan, why did her throat feel tight? Swallowing a bit, Cindersky lifted her chin. "I care, so much, for each and everyone of you. I would gladly lay down my life in protection of every cat here; from the youngest kit to the oldest elder. If you wish for me to be your leader, then I can see no better way to serve my Clan than to answer that call."
It felt odd to say those words, and briefly Cindersky wondered if StarClan would be upset that they were not waiting to hear from them. Surely it was not the traditional route, but it was the route that, at this point, would serve ThunderClan best. And that was the only thought the silver she-cat had in mind.
Turning briefly, her gaze was cast over towards one cat in particular. There had been several call for deputies, but one cat stood out to her. She knew the tom on her other side would be more than happy to continue being a warrior. "There is one cat in mind that I could not imagine leading ThunderClan into this new golden era without. She has served as a steady paw, a clear mind, and a vibrant presence. Sparrowflight, would you help lead alongside me as the deputy of ThunderClan?"
|
Her eyes shook in horror and confusion "Why do they need to be deputy!? Hawkice is a better cat" She meowed, disagreeing with Cindersky

Netarflame narrows her eyes at Dovecloud. "Perhaps you have not been present for everything that so-called useless cat has done for this Clan. Pray tell, Dovecloud, what has Hawkice done that outshines Sparrowflight?"

Re: The Thunderwillow
A short, husky laugh. Jaystride had abstained from voting intentionally-- the idea of it was strange when he was one of the names thrown out. But with Dovecloud's little fit, he shook his head. Someone had bees in their brain, and it wasn't Bushyboy or Snowleap.
"If you're holding him so highly over one action, I think you ought to be reminded Cindersky told him to do so." How impressive! Following the single instruction given, after moons of medocracy. "Sparrowflight has been issuing patrols, handling rejoinings, helping Cindersky organize the Clan.. all on her own volition. If the Clan wants a deputy who can do things without their paw behind held, then that's what the Clan wants.
"There's a reason only you voted for him, sweetheart."

Re: The Thunderwillow
Jaystride spared a glance at Cindersky. At what point did one stop taking a cat seriously?
"I literally told you what Sparrowflight has done for the Clan, repeatedly. And I didn't touch her attempting to save an apprentice. If you want to hold the guy who repeatedly ditched his Clan on a blind pedestal that's on you, sweetheart, but you sound like a grade A imbecile."

Re: The Thunderwillow
Cindersky
Well this was irritating. Cindersky glanced towards the commotion, her face remaining neutral. It was a little annoying that this warrior had also sassed her, but had done a complete turn since the battle. Now she had insults to throw towards Sparrowflight. "Hawkice is a wonderful warrior, but as Jaystride has pointed out he has had issues in the past with going missing for extended periods of time. Plus, the Clan majority has deemed recognition of Sparrowflight and her efforts." If Dovecloud had a problem with Sparrowflight being named the deputy, then it seemed she had a problem with the entire Clan.
...Was she crying? Cindersky was confused as to why, but disregarded the thought. "It is nearing dawn. How about you excuse yourself from the meeting to go rest?"
