Berrypaw was thoughtfull. "But would we not seem suspicious asking around for the outsider who joined the clan? Do ypu know his prefix or suffix?" she asked, after considering everything.

"No" he said "what if we just go and have fun then come back with prey no one will suspect anything"

Frogpaw just didn't like Silentpaw. She didn't know why, maybe some cats were just unkind. But the way she had screamed at Frogpaw, for the first time ever, was beginning to change things. I'm not gonna be walked all over anymore! "He mea- He's mean. Thinks I'm weak, but I'm not!" Should she tell Quailpaw about Blackhaze? No, that wouldn't be a good idea. "Can hunt for myself now!" She pointed to a mouse on the top of the fresh-kill pile. It was tiny. "You my friend, I missed you!" Silentpaw didn't care much why Quailpaw had left, he had his own reasons. But her tail flicked in excitement that he was back. Maybe that was selfish, she didn't know.

Quailpaw smile softly, which turned out much better with his crooked jaw than a grin did. "I missed you too, Silentpaw," he mumbled, glancing at the mouse with the tiniest flicker of amusement. "Maybe we can even go hunting together sometime. And I'm glad you're not weak- next time you see Frogpaw, you show him how strong you are, alright?" He gave a tired little laugh, thinking of everything he had to catch up on since he'd been gone. He'd always thought that in order to fight back, in order to be different, he could never let anyone else in. But now that he thought about it he barely knew many of the other apprentices. Maybe it was time for that to change. A strange sensation tingled at his paws.

He cleared his throat. "How long have you been an apprentice? You weren't at... the last Gathering, were you?"
