He narrowed his eyes, feeling as if Rainglow wasn’t being fully honest. “If you say so,” he replied. “I’ve never put much thought into the idea of being leader. I thought about it as an apprentice, as all young cats do I’m sure. But I grew out of it as a warrior.”

"I never thought of being leader... just rocks." Rainglow mewed blanckly. He licked his paw again, drawing it over his face for the second time. Thank StarClan his brother hadn't pressed him to tell Slatestripe.

Slatestripe studied his brother closely. It didn’t surprise him that Rainglow hadn’t ever thought much of being leader. His brother was content to live as a warrior, with his rocks. And that was just fine.

“Are you sure nothing’s bothering you?” he asked again. “You seem oddly spaced out, like you’re somewhere else.”

"Hm? Oh... no, nothing. Nothing important." Rainglow didn't like to lie... so he wouldn't. It really was nothing important. Of course he has to press... he's my brother. He shook his pelt again, hoping the sunlight would dry it completely soon. The tom kept his gaze on his paws. Usually Slatestripe knew how he was feeling just by looking into his eyes, so Rainglow was determined to keep his face out of his littermates eyeline.

Sensing his brother’s discomfort, Slatestripe decided to drop it. He supposed his brother would tell him later on if he really wanted to. He didn’t say anything further, allowing Rainglow to decide where he wanted the conversation to go.

Rainglow sighed happily. "So what has your life been throwing at you lately?" He mewed curiously. "You know all im gonna do is ramble about rocks!" The tom chuckled.

Slatestripe laughed. “I’ve been quite busy lately. That kit who showed me that rock, I’ve been teaching her how to swim. I’m really trying to get used to being around younger cats, for when I have my own apprentice someday.”
