Croakingpaw crept over to the one on the other end and dropped into a crouch sneaking forward before pouncing on it and killing it quickly, watching the other rat get alerted and come towards him, so he went to kill that rat too, but missed and dodged before trying again and actually killing it.

Embarrassingly enough Adderfang missed her initial pounce on the rat and had to dodge for a bit before she was able to get a killing blow. She ended up quite close to the rat hole and had to rapidly jump back barking out a warning to Croakingpaw as four more rats came pouring out of the hole squealing wildly. Adderfang dodged and weaved around trying to avoid the rats lunging at her hissing when the largest of the group decided she was an ideal target. Well better her then Croakingpaw.

Croakingpaw growled at the rats before shooting into the mess of rats pouncing on one killing it before jumping out, almost getting bitten. He was glad to kill another pesky angry rat.

Adderfang lashed out with vicious claws while leaping mid air managing to outright kill one and heavily injure another. Sadly the injured rat was the largest one and as the warrior went to give a victorious hiss she noticed it turning to run. "Croakingpaw! Don't let the big one get away!" She barked at the apprentice moving to block the final unhurt rat from interrupting the apprentice.

Croakingpaw saw that huge rat going and quickly launched himself on that rat and killed it. Croakingpaw scanned for the last living rat, he felt confident that he’d become a warrior in no time.

Adderfang quickly finished off the rat and looked up to survey the area. All rats dead, no bites as far as she could see, and none escaped perfect. With an honest murr of pleasure the large warrior rested a paw on Croakingpaws shoulder "Excellent work just perfect. I want you to do a final sweep of the house to make sure we didn't miss anything while I collect all the rats to take back for prey and check for poison in them, yell if you need me." before turning to grab the scattered rats and seriously sniffed at them looking for any bad scents. If she found one that was bad she'd show Croakingpaw so he knew in the future but for now she had to work her way through all 7.

Croakingpaw gave a nod and began searching through the barn for any extra rats which he didn’t see any of. So he came back not finding any more rats.

In the time the apprentice was gone Adderfang had sorted the rats into two piles good and bad with thankfully only one bad rat in the lot. "Croakingpaw come look at this, this is the second reason rats are a last resort prey as they can often carry diseases or be poisoned." She flipped the rat over to reveal the mange and rot it carried before pointing out "Look at the rats pelt, it shows signs of it being unhealthy and take a smell of it it smells bitter and wrong compared to the others. You must never eat a rat like this and check the ones you've hunted before you take them back lest you risk poisoning clanmates. Froth around the mouth means they're rabid or poisoned by two legs and you should avoid even hunting those type just in case." She pushed it at him with a claw to let him examine it before grabbing three of the rats to bring back. "Once you're done looking we're done for the day and can head back unless you have any questions. Be sure to rest up for the gathering tonight, I'll be sure to tell Icestar you are ready to fight me afterwards so prepare for that challenge."

The warrior gave a smirk and a challenging gleam to her eye "Well Im not going to make it easy on you so you better be working hard for it. Good luck..." Before slinking out of the waterbarn with her rats unaware that the two wouldn't have their spar but instead have a far more vicious challenge on a far less forgiving foe.
