The monster didn't seem to have reins put onto it. In fact, if Mallory's eyesight was working, it almost seemed to be enjoying it. But that couldn't be. Monsters didn't like to be ridden! Though, now that she thought about it, no one had ever asked them. But why would they ask? Monsters were nothing but a plague!
Still, Mallory put down her dagger. She bit her lip. It... couldn't hurt, right? It would also be easier to kill it, if the need should come. "Fine. Um..how do I get on?"

Mallory hesitated, then grabbed her hand. With the girl's help, she pulled herself up, and sat down in a comfortable position. She waited for... something to happen. But nothing did. Ok, so maybe it isn't going to eat us, she thought.
She realized she didn't know the girl's name. To distract her from the monster she was sitting on, she asked the girl, "What's you're name?" As she spoke, Mallory thought she heard something. Probably nothing. But she put a hand on her dagger just in case.
