Hmm, I don't listen to many bands in particular, but out of the few I suppose I like Nirvana lol (Totally out of character for me, right?)

Oh sure! <3
I feel it helps when I put myself in the shoes of the character I'm writing with. I try to think how they'd react to different things around them and to details about their situation, what they'd focus on, the emotions they'd be feeling in the moment, any train of thought that might pass through their brain at the though of something, ect.
I especially like to include background detail from their point of view, for example, one character might think a lake is quite beautiful and the sounds of the waves to be comforting- however, another character might feel a tugging anxiety or fear when their mind wanders to different scenarios of drowning in it. Also, don't be afraid to make up some new things about them as you go along, sometimes sticking to a very limited script can make you lose motivation- so it's good to expand on their personality. It makes them more three-dimensional and relatable too.
