Slatestripe nodded at his mother’s words. He knew that current Clan custom mandated they sit in vigil, and then bury the dead. Still, he felt like it wasn’t enough. Especially for a cat in a high rank. Sure, Slatewhisker had only been in the position for a couple of moons before her death. But she’d given a lot of service during those moons, and that deserved to be honored more than it currently was.

He shook his head. Now was not the time to be thinking of such things. He had to keep his mind focused on the present issue at paw: the rogues. His mother’s suggestion to examine the body was good, but perhaps a bit callous in his mind. Slatewhisker’s body wasn’t even cold, and here he was considering examining it like a crime scene. Still, he supposed that was what should be done. He knew his mother didn’t mean it to sound callous or insensitive; quite the contrary actually.

After a moment of thought, he figured he could examine the scents on Slatewhisker discreetly. He dipped his head in a respectful goodbye to his mother and slipped closer to Pikestar once again. He was ready to help the leader carry Slatewhisker if need be, but he also wanted to be close enough to get a scent if he wasn’t directly helping to carry the body.

Slatestripe padded out into the open clearing. It was warm for this time of year, albeit cloudy. He shook his fur out and stretched. After spending the night guarding the nursery, he’d slept in most of the morning. He’d spent the early afternoon organizing chores for Autumnpaw. Now, it was time to see what else needed to or could be done.

He scanned the clearing, looking around for something to do.

“O-Ok. Um, I’ve been having trouble with my training lately and- and don’t know what to do…” Splashpaw hung her head. She knew was an upbeat, distracted cat but— lately, it had been getting more noticeable.

Slatestripe’s attention shifted as an apprentice bounced up to him. He couldn’t hold back a smile as she inquired if he was “the amazing warrior” named Slatestripe. “Yes, I am,” he confirmed with a chuckle. “What can I do for you?”

Rainglow sat in the clearing, gazing absentmindedly at the clouds. His icy blue eyes were half open as he let a yawn escape from his mouth. The tom's thick gray pelt ruffled a bit in the chilly leaf-fall breeze that RiverClan had been getting. It felt quite nice against his pelt actually. Rainglow lowered himself into a lying position where his paws were tucked neatly under his chest. The fluffy tom happily watched a small trail of ants scurry through the clearing.

Rainglow jumped a bit at the sudden voice. He looked up at the cat that had approached him. "Oh! H-hello! Yes, i-it is!"
