Inside the apprentices den the small she-cat named Acornpaw stayed in her nest. Why was it so hard to even leave the den? She was a clan cat for crying out loud, yet she wasn't a big fan of too many cats in one place. Everyone was different sizes and shapes. It was all too much for her. Forcing herself to get up

Acornpaw moved over to the entrance, peering her head out. There didn't seem to be that many cats out. Most of them must be out hunting or something. She walked out of the apprentices den before finding her way over to a spot in the camp clearing. That's when she sat down and began to groom through her fur. She made every hair was in nice order before sitting in a loaf position.

Slatestripe took a deep breath. It was time to tell his family about Marigoldleap. Awkwardness pressed at his mind, almost making him want to change his mind about telling them. He had absolutely zero clue how Rainglow or Mintpaw would react to the news.

He ultimately knew it would be worse to not tell them than to deal with the awkwardness of telling them now. So, he steeled himself. “Mintpaw?” he called out into the clearing. “Are you available? I want to talk to you for a little while.”

After finishing his chat with Mintpaw, Slatestripe went looking for his brother. He scanned the camp, unsure if his brother was around. It was entirely possible that he was out on patrol, or with his apprentice.

“Rainglow? I need to talk to you!”

Rainshine lay down on a patch of sunshine, curling her tail around her neatly as she began to wash her paws. They were slightly muddy from hunting earlier in the day, and she was almost entirely sure that a piece of a stick had managed to snag its way under one of her claws.
She nibbled on the offending claw as she watched her clanmates. She hadn't talked to anyone today, and her boredom was beginning to wear on her.
The large she-cat moved from her claws to washing her whiskers, long, diligent strokes wiping any foreign thing from the crisp whiteness of her whiskers.
To her, they were her only claim to loveliness and thus took care of her whiskers like she would one of her kits.
Why has no one talked to me today? Is it because I haven't said something to any of them?

Mintpaw opened her eyes and instantly caught the sound of a familiar voice. She thought it sounded a bit uncertain, though. Is it about my training?
She peeked out of the apprentices' den to see his mentor looking out for her.

"Slatestripe." She greeted him with a dip of her head and followed him in the clearing, wondering if he was taking her out today. He looks pretty concerned, she thought with a prick of worry. But what about? Has something happened?

Had his lie really not been that good? Batkit felt disappointed, even if he could leave the nursery. What was a real bummer was that their lie hadn't worked, and they had to be supervised outside. The kit shook their head in sadness before dragging their paws as they walked out after Streamflake. Batkit glanced over his shoulder, wondering where Icekit was. Probably having fun outside without having to be watched. It wasn't fair. Just because they had gone and had fun in the snow didn't mean they needed supervision! Batkit sat near their mother, looking around the clearing curiously as they forgot their annoyance. He gave his chest a light lick.

"Hon, do you not understand? When im outside the nursery, you may go out and play." She spoke to her kit, unsure if he had understood her words "That means you dont need to stay next to me."

Rainshine looked up from her grooming as she heard one of the queens talking to their kit.
She stopped as she saw Streamflake grooming her fur. She had always found the queen to be pretty, with her piercing eyes and silky fur. She was so noble too, willing to take care of two kits who were not her own.
I should go talk to her! Yes, I will! I'll talk to Streamflake and see if the kits like me!
Rising to her paws, Rainshine walked over to Streamflake. Her heart pounded, but she couldn't name why. It wasn't like she was going to ask Streamflake to go hunting or to be her mate.
"Hi, Streamflake. How are you today?"
Oh stars please don't let me make a fool of myself!

StreamFlake turned her head, looking at the shecat before her. Her eyes stared dead into the others. "Im good, how about you?" She gave a small smile.

Rainshine gave a wide smile in return, though it looked slightly strained due to how nervous she was.
"I uh, I'm good! It's nice weather we're having, ain't it?" Rainshine sat near Streamflake, wrapping her tail around her paws in an attempt to make herself smaller. It didn't exactly work, and Rainshine prayed that her tail didn't accidentally invade Streamflake's space.
"You look nice, I mean uh- look, a kite!" Rainshine looked up to the sky in an attempt to fix her error, praying that a kite bird would fly over the camp at any moment and save her.
