Her attention briefly flicked back to Dawnstar as the leader finished her announcements. Frogpaw let out a deep sigh - deciding it would be best to keep her trap shut in regards to the new changes around the clan.

She glanced back at her mentor and gave him a quick once over. She didn't know a thing about him, to be frank, and wasn't entirely sure what to think of him yet. With a hint of mischeif in her eye but an otherwise serious face and deadpan voice, she spoke up, "You're not going to abandon me too, are you?"

See how he responded to that.

The tom flashed the she-cat a quick smile. So. Frogpaw. He was a mentor to her. Let's see how terribly this would go. "Abandon you? Now why would I ever do that?" Lynxdusk meowed. Abandon ... huh. Why would anyone abandon others? Why does that word exist? Well, I'll have to find out. The tabby's eyes were lit up with joy. I have an apprentice ... that's ... great!

Depends on one’s opinion of the word 'better'… yeah, Doetuft was right on that account, she guessed. Sparkpaw knew that ShadowClan lay in the paws of Dawnstar now. Dawn would decide what kind of ‘better’ their future would be. The logical thing was just… to accept it and adapt. Spark knew she had to, knew it was the only productive way forward.

The pressure of Doetuft’s tail on her shoulder was soft like a whisper, barely there, yet all the same made Sparkpaw feel more grounded. It reminded her of when Talonstone offered her the same comfort, back under Highbranch. She managed a smile.

Dawnstar resumed her speech, so Spark didn’t risk replying. The cream colored she-cat lifted her head toward the shadowledge instead, waiting for the rest. Most of it was simple. Mundane. Deputy stuff, which didn’t apply to Sparkpaw… but at the very end, their new leader slipped in a bombshell.

Sparkpaw would be fighting Dawn as a final assessment?

The news came as more of a shock than anything else. Spark didn’t feel much...which was weird. Her blue eyes widened, but that was the only outward sign. It, uh. Took a moment to gather her wits. It will be fine, she thought. Talonstone was the best mentor in ShadowClan; between his help and her brains, Sparkpaw could improve enough to hold her own against Dawn. Besides! Final assessments were moons away… she had time.

Turning to Doetuft after the meeting’s conclusion, Sparkpaw tried grinning. Her mew was determined: “Whatever happens, we’ll handle it.” There was no other choice.
