Spotting his three patrol mates, Cricketsting leapt up from his hunches. He waved his tail and purred as he thought up any more jokes he could use. He exited out of the camp, padding down to the WindClan border.

The walk was tiresome and it irked the cream warrior. The scenery’s wind blew against the warrior’s face as the trees fell back, not trying to catch up with the patrol to block the hard air. Shivers sent down Cricketsting’s spine. Must be lucky to be a cat with extra long fur. His spirits lifted as he spotted a mole a few mouse-tail lengths away. He sat down, pads stinging, and used one of his front limbs to elbow -or knee?-, hopefully, someone who was behind him. With his tail flicking towards the mole, he wisecracked.

“Holy moley! That thing al-mole-st scared me to death!” He gave a shriek of laughter, then toned it down with a continuous chuckle.

Rainglow was padding behind the warrior he thought was Cricketsting, and let his mind wander. I bet the stones by the river look nice in this sunlight... He thought, gaze shifting over the horizon. But then he was bumped by the cat in front of him. He stopped, awaiting the inevitable puns about the mole that sat before them. Ah great StarClan, the puns were worse than he could imagine. Rainglow let out a quiet, shy laugh. He didn't want to feel awkward by not laughing....! But alas, he was always awkward. You couldn't fix it.

Mintpaw brought up the rear, observing silently as Cricketsting made another joke about a mole. He should've been names Cricketsing, for how he behaves. But the apprentice wasn't bothered by the odd warrior behaviour; she was intent on studying the gray tom ahead of her, noticing the waves of uneasiness coming off from every part of him.
He's Rainglow. Slatestripe's brother. The dark warrior had talked with her about him, and for his love of pebbles. She walked graciously on the damp sand, not bothering to watch where she put her paw steps, wondering if this tom had his own collection of stones. I'd sure like to see it. Her whiskers twitched in curiosity.

But now, her duty was this patrol.

Seedheart let out a small purr at the joke from the other warrior. She hadn't personally talked with Cricketsting before, but the tom did give off a calming effect and seemed to be well liked.

The tortieshelle's brows furrowed as another mole seemed to dart practically in their paws. "Do you think we can eat them?", she murmured out loud.

His laugh abruptly ended and heard the laugh behind him. Turning his head, he spotted a gray cat who called himself Rainglow. The laugh -Cricketsting unaware of the fake laughter- only made the patrol leader chuckle. The last encouragement was from Seedheart who gave an audible purr.

Cricketsting finally uttered a sigh, his stomach full of life and inspiration to make more jokes. However, he was still in the patrol and he was a patrol leader, not a comedian. He shook his head and spoke to Seedheart without taking his eyes off the moles -another mole came to the scene.

“If that’s the case, then we would be mole like them!” With a quirky giggle, he continued the journey to the border.

Mintpaw didn't react to the last umpteenth joke, and certainly didn't laugh to it. Why are they talking about moles? Wasn't this supposed to be a border patrol? The apprentice didn't like fidgeting and just wanted to reach the borders and learn to mark them, so that they could all turn back and find something else to do.

Her mind wandered off from the other warriors' conversations: her eyes were scanning the surroundings, her nose registering the route scents, her paws learning the surface of the different grounds as they got more and more farther from the river. A map was taking shape in her mind, and if Fawnleap wouldn't be there to teach her all of this, she would do it alone.

Rainglow shuffled his paws around nervously. Why are there so many moles!? The grey tom flicked his ear. He just wanted to be back at camp already... looking at rocks... or watching clouds. He would like to talk to his brother... but it seemed Slatestripe didn't have time for that anymore. That tom always was a natural leader... Rainglow's mind wandered again, particularly over the fact that RiverClan would need a new deputy. Maybe Slatestripe... A shudder went down his spine at the thought. He didn't really know why though... he loved Slatestripe! But for now, he should focus on the patrol. With a small unnoticeable shake of his head, he looked at the other cats. Oh. His mind returned just in time for a joke. How nice.

Seedheart and Cricketsing were enjoying themselves too much in jokes, she thought. Rainglow was shifting uneasily behind them, and Mintpaw understood him well.
"Shouldn't we begin marking the borders?" She asked suddenly, beginning to guess that she wouldn't learn anything on this patrol if she didn't push it.
