Alderstep looked at her, expecting her to be leaving to the nursery. Nope. Just flopped on the cold ground. He really should be concerned. It was too cold out for the kit to be doing that. "Go back to the nursery," he told the kit. Was she really sleeping? Where was one of the queens to gather up the flea-bitten cat? Alderstep stared at the kit for a while. Was he supposed to do something? He hoped not.

Acornkit rolled over in her sleep. And was shaking in the cold.

Great. Now she was shaking. Alderstep peered at her for a moment longer before inching forward and wrapping his fluffy tail around her, practically hiding the kit in all of his fluff. "This is so embarrassing," he muttered, glancing around the clearing anxiously. He should probably take the kit to the nursery...but. That was a lot of work and he didn't want to show his face in there. That felt like a death sentence to Alderstep. He looked down at his tail for a moment before wondering what to do as he looked back up.

Acornkit scruffed in the snow like a pillow and fell into a deeper sleep. As the snow piled on her fur.

Guess he would have to pick up this stupid kit. He brushed the snow off with his snout and scruffed her, standing up and doing his best to gently hold her. Alderstep stretched for a moment, then turned towards the nursery. Where would he even put the kit in there? She had no parents, so what nest did she go in? Alderstep stood there with the kit in his jaws, mentally preparing himself before he'd enter the nursery.

Here goes nothing. Alderstep trotted across the clearing to the nursery entrance, hesitating before entering. Bad idea, bad idea, bad idea, bad idea...whatever. He was no coward, no matter how annoying kits were. He stepped in and glanced around for an empty nest to deposit the kit. Aha. Alderstep slunk over to one and dropped her in it. The smell of the nursery brought back some old memories. He flicked an ear and twitched his whiskers, turning to go. Just a quick in and out. That's all he planned.

Nooo, she woke up. Alderstep looked back. "Leaving," he said, taking another step. Go back to sleep. Starclan, did he hate the nursery. Alderstep had a fleeting thought of wondering if the kit would somehow force him to stay. He shuddered involuntarily. He'd rather die than stay here.
