After one visitor, another pops up! Of course, this one didn’t seem to be that big of an issue since it was only just one cat in particular, not two or three. Or, if she and Drizzlecloud were extra lucky, four at the max! It was a little stressful the more that she thought about it, but she gradually ignored it as she focused on the tom as he entered the medicine den, audibly wincing at him jumping at the rather huge crowd encroaching upon the area. Did he not like crowds? Well, that was something that he was going to have to deal with, she supposed. The medicine den was quite crowded at the moment and she was certain that it was only going to get worse as this disease grew more. Stars, hopefully that didn’t happen anytime soon.

Her attention spiked once the tom began to speak and notify his symptoms, the dilute calico’s brows furrowing forward as she listened intently to the words that escaped the tom-cat’s mouth. Burns around the nose. Weak and dizzy. Well, Springpaw wasn’t quite certain of how to fix the burns around his mouth and nose, but she did know in fact that the tom-cat in front of her will require some burnet to help raise his strength. Not much, she seemed, but at least some that would help keep him on his paws. “W… w-well… I am… not… quite sure about… the burns… I'm pretty… sure… Drizzlecloud knows… what to do… for that… but… I do… know… what will… help get… your strength up.” She casted him a small, yet genuine smile as she gestured towards one of the moss-beds with a snow-furred white forepaw. “Please… go ahead… and lay… on one of… these… while… I get… the herb… required.”

Brownface nodded and laid down in the nest, dipping his head with gratitude. “Thank you.” He would usually be a little more snarky or sarcastic to lighten the mood, but he could tell the younger molly was quite stressed and anxious as it was. I can’t say I blame her, he thought. And besides, he has more respect for medicine cats then to act like that towards them.

tw; mentions of gore and other triggering aspects. please don’t read if these disturb you

Swirling. Spiraling. Spinning. That was how it was every time it started. Every nightmare that has concurred in her fragile memory has always ended up either being the same or worse. Either way, the nightmares were usually always the same in a way that was worse or surreal. The same, blood-stained disheveled grassy clearing was always visible in her vision. Roaring, bloodied screeches of cats caterwauling as they gave out their fierce battle cries in the midst of war. The old, intense ringing of white-noise that painfully echoed through her strained ears everytime cats around her roared and bellowed with fury. The distant rippling of the unfathomable river smacking hard against the riverbanks as it passed through Sunkissed Creek was still a painful reminder that ShadowClan had taken a place that was once ThunderClan’s piece of territory. A place they were always plentiful with herbs and prey that was now clutched in the paws of ShadowClan themselves. It was relatively a painful memory, but that was the least of the issues that came across the calico’s fragile mind. The main thing that crossed her mind was the absolute, unbearable, agonizing pain that pulsed through her body as she lay on the freshly blood-stained ground and essentially covered it with a fresh layer of berry-red liquid by each passing second.

Darkness had swirled around the corners of her vision, her breathing shallow and her head feeling like it was being submerged underwater. Her air-needy lungs were burning desperately for oxygen, and each gaping breath that she took felt relatively weaker than the last. Her brain screamed and writhed, maliciously hissing at her that she was nothing but a mere imposter invading the dreaming world. Her blood-stained teeth gritted, her limbs swaying as she tried to look for an escape route to what had seemed to be an eternalized imprisonment. Such movements did nothing, resulting with only pitifully meander attempts at escaping the grasp of the tom who had torn through her flesh with his ivory-colored claws, of which were now stained in deep scarlet as speckles of red decorated his deep, jet-black fur. His broad, curved shoulders eliminate against the bleak light of the sun barely concealed from the clouds. His cold, pure icy blue gaze filled with an intent to kill and his facial expression filled with both immaculate fury and delight. The two emotions that the tom-cat bore while he tried to commit a cowardly act such as murdering the medicine cat apprentice herself.

Her accelerating mind was buzzing and her heart was pounding aggressively against her ribcage. The tri-colored fur along her face was stained in red against the quadruple layers of scars that were oozing with blood, brutally stinging just as equally as her bloodied lips bore back into a pained grunt. Her jaws opened to let out a scream of which to no avail. The words that had wished to come out only clinging to the back of her throat, becoming clogged as sharp canids wrapped around her neck, digging into the flesh with ease as they tore through soft tissue and muscle. The same feeling suddenly recoiled over the calico again, making her freeze as her mind went blank. The metallic taste of blood was quick to crawl its way up towards her mouth and drooled out of the corners of her lips. The pain here was indescribable, and everytime she experienced this indespicable feeling, it felt more and more numb than the last everytime she witnessed this daunting dream.

This has to be StarClan’s way of toying with her. Sending her a constant repeat of the infamous incident of where a ShadowClan brute was trying to mercilessly murder her and leave her corpse out in the bloodied clearing for a random guilt-stricken warrior to collect. It was entirely impossible to escape the repeating horrors of witnessing both clans fighting tooth and claw against each other and the endless struggle of trying to escape the expelling wrath of this tom-cat heaved atop of her as he was fueled with the powerful desire to murder her on the spot. It was painfully exhausting at this point. The repelling nightmare only just started, and she was already wishing that she was dead and left behind to be scavenged up by the ravens and crows and whatever predators that would appeal with the taste of cat. Sure, it wasn’t a healthy thought to give of a situation that only happened merely so far ago, but it was a dying wish that she held deeply within her heart ever since the incident happened. Ever since the incident that permanently changed her life for the worst.

The already lethal grip on her throat suddenly tightened, the acrid taste of blood began to grow as it dribbled out from corners of her mouth, further staining the naturally vibrant snow-white fur along her chest as it flowed onto the deep, crimson-stained surface of the dying ground. Another thing that was rather bittersweet to recall; the same disgusting feeling of her own blood seeping into her long fur every time the tom tore open her flesh. Whether it was along her face, hind leg, underbelly, throat, it was all still the same damn thing. Sure, it was agonizingly painful and sure as hell difficult to breathe in average breaths of air, but in the end, it was all the same. It was always the damn same thing every single time she witnessed this practically endless nightmare of herself gaining this putrid injury.

Brows furrowing and inner consciousness weaving, the weakening calico reared up her back legs and halfheartedly raked them along the soft underbelly of the tom-cat, using whatever strength she had left in her weakening body to try to overthrow the tom-cat off her. It gave off some sort of reaction, to say the least, but it wasn’t one that she had always preferred. Just like in the real world, this perpetrator didn’t let go. He kept his tight grip and had his strong jaws locked as he waited for the time that the young thirteen moon old medicine cat apprentice would finally lose circulation and die to his wrath. Just finally die and never to be seen again as she becomes forgotten about in the very pits of the void.

Her stinging eyes scanned the bloodied battlefield, blurred by the spiraling darkness and blood that poured down her face. Her vision felt so blurred by the mixture of both her blood and the darkness that she had to visibly squint to try to get a clear picture of the fighting felines to try to spot her mother from the crowd in front of her. It was a bit different than what had happened at the battle, but was it going to turn out to be the very same? Most likely. It wasn’t like that this dream kept happening for a reason. It’s been going on for a while, and it was like a constant loophole that bore no ending to it. Almost entirely unstoppable if she thought about it hard enough. Against the hard strain of the caterwauling cries of both her clan-mates and ShadowClan, her tired eyes made contact with those gorgeous sapphire hues and she could’ve sworn that she felt her heart stop beating for a second while she watched her mother’s face contort to a mixture of worry, anger, and love for her daughter that was pinned beneath the mercy at the bloodthirsty tom-cat. Springpaw’s brain began to contour between the nightmare and waking world, merely dragging Springpaw away from the world of pain as a lack of consciousness took over the form within the hellish dream, her ears distantly taking in the hushed words that escaped her mother's mouth as darkness overtook her vision.

The pale light eliminating through the narrowed entrance of the medicine den was more than enough to knock the slumber out of Springpaw’s painfully exhausted body, her eyes cracking open to get adjusted to the dim atmosphere decorating foremost of the medicine den itself. Mixtures of different scents flooded her nostrils, and it sent a much comforting feeling through her aching body as she dragged her gaze towards the darker depths of the medicine den, where she could easily make out the indented holes of where herbs were neatly placed and organized. Her mind slowly grasped through with the situation that she was in as she silently kneaded her paws against the comforting surface of the green moss-bed beneath her paws, watching as her claws seeped into the green plant-bed before sheathing once more. It was a simple way to distract herself from her troublesome thoughts, but it wasn’t enough to just keep her distracted long enough from the havoc of a nightmare that she experienced once again.

Her pained muscles tensed, and her barbed tongue rubbed along the ridged roof of her mouth. Right. The nightmare. Drizzlecloud had no clear indication of what the young calico was currently going through, did she? Springpaw felt herself internally biting at her cheek as she silently gnawed at the flesh, her tired mind contemplating her choices as she tried to evade her gaze away from the darker areas of the medicine den for now. As of now, Springpaw wasn’t sure if she should even bother telling her mentor about these concurrent dreams. They felt like they were constantly eternal; that they were a constant burden that Springpaw had to carry on her back for the rest of her life. Or, to put it into retrospect, they felt like a punishment that StarClan sent her to just revisit the dreams over and over just so that they could taunt her suffering from such unbridled dreams and agony. It was horrid, but did Springpaw have any other choice? No. It was either to deal with it, or constantly mop around about it.

The quiet sound of pawsteps drew Springpaw out from her temporary daze, the calico’s oriental-shaped ears swerving towards the entrance of the den as she listened to the sound of two felines entering the medics’ den. A heavy sigh drew forth from her nostrils, the faint outline of frost eliminating in the air as her mind finally snapped back to reality. Of course, she was bound to expect visitors at some point during this grave time period. Everything was an expendable mess, and it only seemed to grow worse and worse as time grew by. With a quiet grunt escaping past her lips, the molly pushed herself up onto all fours as she ignored the way her muscles screamed from the lack of momentum they needed. Her body felt relatively stiff and each muscle complained from moving so abruptly after waking from a horrid sleep. Not to mention, her fur was an absolute disaster, so it wasn’t like she was in any way prepared for visitors to come strolling into the den.

The sound of a tom-cat calling her name briefly caught her off guard, puzzlement overcoming the emotions that trudged through the calico like a stampede of cows. Why call her name instead of Drizzlecloud? Wasn’t Drizzlecloud more noticeable than she was at the given moment due to her state? Or, was Drizzlecloud currently out collecting herbs and now Springpaw was in charge of all the patients that came strolling in. Yeah, that second option seemed more valid to her, and she may as well stick with it. Using her tail to flick away any excess moss sticking to her messy fur, the molly quickly brushed out through her tri-colored coat to at least make herself look presentable for the cats that had entered the den… whoever they were. “C… c-coming your way!” Springpaw called, ignoring the way her throat burned as she tried to make her voice loud enough to be heard. It was a difficult aspect to do due to the way her vocal cords currently were, so it wasn’t going to be an easy task to just explain what was going on with them through vocal communication.

Upon satisfied with her grooming, the calico shook off the haziness that clouded her gaze as she trudged her way towards the entrance of the medicine den, squinting her eyes to get a clear view of both of the felines that entered her dead. A sudden rush of both concern and puzzlement flourished through her as she took note of the familiar golden pelt of Lioncrest and the familiarity of her mother’s silver pelt alongside him, seemingly leaning on him for comfort. Springpaw could feel her breath catching in her throat, but she held herself from saying anything in regards to it as she eyed the situation in front of her carefully. With Lioncrest’s next set of words, it seemed that something was wrong with her mother, and Springpaw could feel herself undeniably hoping that none of the poison had guaranteed to take any potential harm to her mother and that it was just only merely a cold or something as close to that coming around. Something like that would just make Springpaw feel more worried about losing one of the only family members that she grew close with during the events of the sinkholes at the old camp. “W… w-well… go ahead… and bring her… to an unoccupied… moss-bed… I will… see what… I can… do… to help…”

Hanging around in the medicine den was growing more and more difficult to keep herself submerged from all the patients coming down with this poison. It was sad, really. That something as deadly as this kept coming around and was growing worse by the passing second. Before the molly could further dwindle in her thoughts, the sound of someone entering the den soon caught her attention, making the calico crane her head slightly to look in the direction of her sudden visitor entering the den. A tom-cat and a kit. It has seemingly been growing more and more common that duos are entering the den more than just one cat. Seems that cats have even come down with illnesses that were worse than just this poison itself. “O.. o-of course! G… go ahead.. and place… yourself on… one of… the moss-beds… and I will.. see… what I can… do to… help.” Springpaw casted the tom a sweet, yet genuine smile as she gestures towards one of the nearest beds, before focusing her attention solely on the kit that was placed into her view.

Something wrong with the kit? Well, that was definitely not good. The young kit seemed awfully chatty for him to have become ill, so that couldn’t have been the issue. Although, he did keep talking to himself… which Springpaw wasn’t quite certain to call a strange occupance. She talked to herself sometimes, so maybe Shrewkit was doing just that? Either way, it was better to get the deed done and over with. “H-Hmm… S-shrewkit?… Who… are you… talking to… if I… may ask?” She questioned, ignoring the panging feeling in her throat while she questioned the young kit, furrowing her brows forward in both question and concern as she asked who Shrewkit was speaking with.

Thankfully, the tom-kit ate the flower head that she had just offered over to him, thankfully not making any disgusted comments in regards to just eating a flower. Just as Springpaw mentioned, the head of the dandelion should hopefully go into effect by drawing out any toxins inside the young kit’s immune systems. Smiling softly at the young kit, she nodded her head in gratitude as her lips formulated into words that heavily bubbled up in her throat. “W… w-well… that should… hopefully help with… reducing any potential vomiting… in the future… it should… also help… with getting… most of the poison… out of your body… just keep… some moss… right beside… you just… in case…” her words were slurred and her throat was burning like absolute hell, but that wasn’t the most of what was on her mind. She wanted to make sure most of the poison got out of the kit's body and hopefully stayed that way for the rest of the time. Her heart welled for the tom-kit when he mentioned the fact that he missed his parents, her lips worming to a frown as she felt words of comfort bubble deep within her, only to die down as she felt her vocal cords growing more and tired of her relentless attempts to speak. So, the most of which the young healer did was carefully draw the tip of her tail comfortingly along the young tom’s shoulders, giving him a comforting look in hopes that’ll it’ll help make him feel a little bit better.

Drizzlecloud’s sudden words made the blue-gray molly crane her head up towards her mentor’s direction, her eyes filled with both concern and gratitude as she listened to her mentor telling her to go rest up and take a short breather. It was understandable why her mentor would tell her to go rest herself; her body was still recovering from the incident of almost getting brutally murdered in the piece of territory that was formerly theirs. The thought almost made her hackles rise up out of indignantly, but she held such impulsive urges back as she took in her mentor's word with a short nod, giving her a quick look before departing her way towards her moss-bed. “If… he starts… to feel queasy… again… come get me… and I’ll bring him… another… dandelion head if… needed.”

Headaches and weakened vision. Well, those two things were at least easily curable. However, the molly wasn’t quite sure if they had any celandine left in the storage to help ease those types of problems with the tom-cat’s eyes, but it was better to check it anyway than not. However, for his headache, she was absolutely certain that they were going to need poppyseeds to help ease the pain to an extent in order for the headache to go away. However, other than that, both things seemed durable with both of those specific herbs required. Thankfully, before the young molly even started giving out her diagnosis, her mentor was quick to approach by her side and question the tom if he was feeling quite alright. Thankfully for her, Springpaw had already gotten that part of the ordeal down and gained her symptoms. “W… w-well… the most… of which… we can do… is give… you some… poppyseeds… to help… with your headache… and… give you some… celandine… to strengthen… your eyes… please… do not… shake… your head… it will… make… the headache… worse…” the calico explained, pointing a small forepaw up at her own head as she remained focused on the tom in front of her. “To help… elevate… the pain… sit down… and use… your paws… to rub… the sides… of your temples… for thirty… seconds… it will… help ease… the pain… do it… for longer… if it… still feels… like a issue…”

The passing days had felt abrupt and painful, her closing wounds still painfully agonizing even while they had healed to an extent that it was just gnarly skin along the prominent areas. It wasn’t easy to keep her head held high after such situations had occurred. She was almost murdered, and yet, ThunderClan almost lost one of their most dearest medicine cats. Hell, Springpaw bore a good knowledge of herbs that she would be absolutely certain that it would only cause her clan no good if she suddenly died because of a bloodthirsty warrior's wrath. It was a hurtful thought to think about, but it was the only thing scurrying through her mind like wandering insects. Her thoughts came to a sudden stop as she listened to one of her clan-mates entering the den, her head quickly whipping around as she watched the silhouette of Bravesky set a kit down on the grounds and began to call out for both of the medics. Springpaw’s brows furrowed forward as the young healer listened intently to the brief words that escaped the warrior’s maw of him calling both of their names. What could be the possible issue now? Was there something wrong with the kit that he brought into the medics den? Well, one thing in particular could be that said-kit could’ve came down with the potential poison, but Springpaw didn’t want to see herself believing that.

Humming silently beneath her breath, the molly waddled her way towards the duo of felines as she watched Mousekit fidget along sea’s place, clearly not showing much signs of being still as Springpaw watched sea happily play pretend in sea’s place. “What… could be… the problem… Bravesky?” She questioned, focusing her attention back up towards the warrior as puzzlement and intrigue grew in her dazzling blue eyes, the molly awaiting for what the tom had to say about bringing Mousekit into the den.

Poppy ow...

The words shredded his heart into tiny little pathetic pieces. He couldn't even protect his own daughter from whatever was ailing them. Couldn't be strong enough to help the medicine cats nurse her back to health until she was a giggling bundle of joy once more. No, she wheezed and coughed and asked him for help that he couldn't offer. When Drizzlecloud approaches them, he can't even bring himself to move his head. Only his eyes stare at her through their corners as he lays and continues to heave, forcing himself to stop the tears that threaten to spill.

"She... She has been very warm... But cold..." He rasps, gaze now resting on his daughter. Can't help the way he frowns as she continues to wheeze against him. "And her breathing has... Has been harder... For her... And... Her stomach..."

As he rattles off her symptoms, his entire frame is wracked by violent coughs, which surprise even him. In his time of falling ill he hadn't done such a thing-- the way it forces his body to convulse is so painful. It feels like his entire body is on fire. So painful he doesn't even notice the spatter of blood that no decorates the medicine den floor from his fit. Dizzy... He was growing so dizzy again. The two cats that stand over them shift from side to side as he gazes forward, eyes sunken deep into his head and bloodshot from the lack of sleep he's dealt with. This really was it, wasn't it? There was no escaping it this time. Stars above, if he had known this sickness was going to kill him he would have come here sooner. Wouldn't have kept pushing. Wouldn't have written it off as just a case of whitecough. In his haze he thinks he sees another figure in the medicine den behind the two healers but it moves too fast for him to make out who was watching him.

Swallowing hard, he tries to focus, teeth bared in frustration as he desperately tries to force his eyes to stop making doubles of the two in front of him so he can continue to speak. Continue to tell them about their symptoms...

Was there even a point for him? Should he waste his breath on it? There was so much that would go left unsaid if he didn't start speaking now. And if anyone could be trusted to deliver his dying messages to his loved ones it was Drizzlecloud and Springpaw. Always reliable. Kind and warm. The tears begin to well again and he doesn't bother to try and stop them this time. Was he sad? Was he scared? He didn't know. All he knew is that he didn't have much time. Not enough time, he was running out of time--

"P-Please... Focus on my Poppy..." He whimpers, eyes pleading. "If you could pass on... Some words for me... I w-would... I'm not... Going to..."

Not going to what? Survive? He couldn't say that in front of his sick daughter. Couldn't put more stress on her like that. She was suffering enough and she was so unaware of their situation that he wasn't going to make it hurt more. Make it harder for his daughter to heal. She had to survive. Had to live on. Become a warrior, become what great cat he knows that she is going to be. The drive she had... The positivity... His Poppy was going to accomplish more than he ever could have dared to hope to of. So he doesn't finish his question. Just continues to talk.

"Eelkit... Plumkit, Acornkit... A-And Fawnkit... My little ones..." He mews weakly, staring at Springpaw desperately. "Tell them... Father loves them... So v-very much. T-Tell them they're so... Strong... And I'll be watching them... And I believe... In every one of them."

The tears begin to slide down his cheeks, dampening his fur. Squeezing his eyes tight and forcing back another cough, he continues to speak, not to either of them in particular but perhaps at this point in his delirium to whoever would listen.

"Mapleface... My... My girl... Mapleface, I... I was always so... Proud of you. So proud of you... You'll pull through... I know it... You'll be strong. You'll be... An amazing mother... Hopefully our little o-ones will grow close... I'm sorry I... I wasn't here to... See it."

It's so tiring. Speaking his feelings into the air like this. Not only was it emotionally exhausting but it seemed as though the more and more he spoke the lighter his body became. As if everything that sat so heavily on his shoulders was being lifted away by the glittering lights at the top of the den that he never remembered were there. Was it night? Were the stars listening to? He hopes so-- he can only hope that Starclan welcomes him and all his guilt.

While Spiderthroat was doing that, Drizzlecloud darted off to go and grab two more heads of marigold. The cobwebs and the moss would do good for blood clotting and stopping the blood–but they had to fight any infection that might have begun to fester, too. There was no doubt in her mind that Mudhound would end up with some sort of infection, so it was better to tackle it right off the bat.

“Good, thank you, Spiderthroat.” Although her words were muffled by the marigold as she came back–surely he’d still get the message anyway. She just managed to catch the words that Mudhound said before their head smacked the moss bed beneath them.

“Too big and strong to die, perhaps.” She correctly softly as she seated herself at their side. Spiderthroat had done a nice job with patching up their poor stump and the side of their body in extension. Still, she needed to apply some marigold. Casting a glance towards Spiderthroat, she offered him a smile, an anxious one but still a smile nonetheless. “I hope you’re okay, too. I’ll get to tending to you in a second once I finish things up here, okay?”

Honestly, Drizzlecloud just assumed that he had some awful injury that was similar to others that she had seen today–and the blood that was caked onto his pelt only supported that theory, but then again, he had been able to help her with patching up Mudhound without a problem. So, what I’m saying here is, what does she really know?

“This is gonna sting, Muddy, but it’s a good kind of stinging, promise.” She began to munch up one of the marigold heads, and she used her paw to carefully lift at the cobweb bandage that Spiderthroat had applied, just enough so that she could slip the marigold poultice onto Mudhound’s wounds. Just to be sure, she tore the second marigold in half, chewing up one half of it to apply to the other slices that made their way up Mudhound’s side, towards their hip. Once she seemed satisfied with her work, she sat up straight. “Lovely, Mudhound. You can rest now, okay? I want to give you a couple of poppy seeds first, though.”

She cast a glance towards Spiderthroat, a silent stay there, before she toddled off to grab some poppy seeds.

When Brownface arrived, she was honestly just glad to see that his condition wasn’t as bad as some other cases that they had already seen so far. With this sudden outbreak from that wretched poison, they were already seeing quite a bit–different severities and different symptoms. Thankfully, by Brownface’s demeanor and his explanation on his own symptoms, it really didn’t seem to be that bad. Still, she didn’t want things to get worse, so best to treat this right now, right? Nip it at the bud.

“I know how to help you with those burns!” She practically sang–except she didn’t, because cats don’t know how to sing. Once Brownface had seated himself in a moss bed, she toddled off to go and find some of that comfrey that she had recently found. Once she had managed to find it, she plucked one of the leaves from the herb and began to munch on it, creating a poultice in her jaws. She came padding back over to where Brownface was, and she stuck her muzzle up a bit, a silent way of asking him to lift his face so that she could tend to his burns. She couldn’t really open her mouth and ask him, cause her mouth was full, after all.

Drizzlecloud purred–for someone who was seeking out healing, this molly was quite chipper! She appreciated the different approach that this warrior took to seeking her out for help. If it were her in Nightgaze’s paws, she’d be in a pretty crummy mood right now–power to her for not letting some injuries get her down.

“Gets difficult sometimes, but that’s why we have two medicine cats rather than one, I suppose!” She chuckled at her own words before she leaned down to scoop up the half-marigold head in her jaws, munching away on it. By the way she chewed on herbs, you’d think that they were delightful–but no, they all had pretty yucky flavours, marigold being pretty bitter. Perhaps she was just good at pretending? Who knows. With her paws, she divided the clump of cobwebs into two separate piles, one being bigger than the other. Once she was done chewing up the marigold into a poultice, she kneaded at the smaller clump of cobwebs until she was easily able to pull them apart. Then, she leaned down to apply the marigold poultice to Nightgaze’s claw–or, where her claw was supposed to be, at least– and then she tugged at the small bunch of cobwebs to wrap up Nightgaze’s paw.

“And next, your leg. Can you extend your leg a bit for me? It’ll probably hurt a bit, but we have to make sure that your leg is positioned correctly for when I prop the stick up beside it.”
