Silentkit's mother is an ex-shadowclan cat named Ivyshade who dropped her suffix after she left. She would occasionally tell her kits stories about the clans

Silentkit plopped her face in the snow and took a huge mouthful. After she swallowed, she sat down. "Miss Mama. Tell about Clans. Barn is home. Why home burn?" If Quailpaw had had a similar experience, maybe he would understand?

(Good idea. It always makes a much more believable character when you draw from your own experiences and real-life stories; Silentkit sounds like a charrie I want to follow!)

Quailpaw tensed, fighting with the past. Letting out a slow breath, he began to regain control, but his response to Silentkit was unfortunately curt. "I don't know. Probably those stupid twolegs." He bit his lip-- he hadn't meant to be harsh, but it was hard when Silentkit's story reminded him of such long-buried emotions and feelings.

Quailpaw hadn't been in a fire, but he knew what it was like to lose everyone. All at once. Bloody, snarls, barks, claws that slashed-- and gone.

He hated twolegs.

Sighing, he apologized. "Sorry. I didn't mean to snap. But yeah. It might have been twolegs."

Quailpaw's reasoning made sense. Mama always told her to stay away from twolegs, that they were very unpredictable and always bad news. If twolegs caused the fire, then that meant they were even worse than she thought! Why would they do something like that? We weren't bothering anyone! "T'legs...burn home. Your home too?"

Scorchstrike walked into the nursery with a few sparrows. Hunting during leaf-bare was difficult, but she made do. Seeing a queen that she'd never seen before, she padded over. "Hi! You new here?"

Lilacshiver jumped slightly. she turned to see the she-cat standing in the entrance to the den.
"yes, I'm new here. I don't know much about the uh...clan," she murmured, not daring to take her eyes of the she-cat.
"I'm lilac -shiver. Lilacshiver. what's your name?"

Oh, so Lilacshiver was new. That made sense. "I'm Scorchstrike. Here's one of the most important rules of our code-Queens, kits, and elders eat first. You want a sparrow?" Scorchstrike figured the darkness of the nursery prevented the newcomer from seeing her wounded face. @Warriorfan09

Poppyshine looked at the kit that was curled up in the center of the nursery with curiosity. Dawnstar had plopped her down but Poppy couldn't see a mother in tow. She looked around for her kits. "Hummingbirdkit, Heartkit, Mousekit, Lilackit," she called, spotting her kits. She approached the kit and bent her nose down to examine it closer. "Hello darling," she said with a small purr. It was much younger than her own kits but she could never turn a young cat away. She noticed it's multiple burn scars and furrowed her brow.

Quailpaw looked down, amber eyes clouded. "No. But--" He glanced at the kit uncertainly. It wasn't an easy story, but somehow... he felt that she needed to hear it. Or that it needed to be told. Either way, Quailpaw opened his jaws to continue. "The twolegs sent dogs. A whole pack of them. I was living with my family--" He choked up a bit. "--And a whole lot of other cats outside of ShadowClan. They came and, they... " His voice fell to a whisper. "They killed them. They killed them all. He looked up at me, and I tried to save him but I was too little, and there was so much blood--" Quailpaw's face, crowded with confliction, suddenly cleared and he remembered he was speaking to a kit. Trying to collect himself, he glanced away. "Well. I came here, and I'm glad. It's a g-good home," he encouraged the kit. "But it might take some getting used to. And some letting go." His expression softened. "Why don't we go back into the nursery, where it's warm." He worried the kit might grow chilled and soaked with the fresh-fallen snow.

"Sorry." Was all Silentkit could think to say. What were you supposed to say to someone after that? She didn't know enough words. All she could do was bump her head into Quailpaw's flank as an odd sign of affection. She turned and walked back to the nursery.

Silentkit flinched as an large queen came up to her. Other kits bounced along with her. Were these all the queen's kits? Silentkit nodded in acknowledgement. All these kits running around, knocking into each other, yelling, playing, it was all a bit much.

Poppyshine watched the little kit nod and flinch in concern. She sat down nearby and asked, "Are you alright, dear? Where's your mother?" She lowered herself slowly down to the ground, wrapping her tail around herself. She could tell she would be ready to resume warrior life soon.

Silentkit didn't know where her mother was. They had been separated in the fire and hadn't found each other since. The same fire that made it painful to speak, although eating snow seemed to help a bit. "Mama...fire. No home. All gone. Walk here. Big brown cat find." Her voice was all croaky. @Paradise
