Fourpaw padded into the clearing from the apprentices den, sitting down and slowly beginning to lick the tufts of moss from his dark brown fur, ears erect and listening intently to his surroundings. He removed the last bit of moss from his chestfur and sat up, curling his tail around his paws, the four pale rings greatly contrasting the rest of him and standing out against the darkness of his fur as he looked over the clearing quietly.

Doepaw's dark blue gaze shifted to the tom cat that had recently immersed from the apprentices den. Her eyes followed him as he sat down, a weird admiration for the cats confidence welled up inside her. She knew that the tom was brave, something she lacked at times. As she laid there watching him she debated up with herself to stay out or talk to him, or at least try, although he didn't seem like a social butterfly. Gathering up the urge to stay put, she hoisted herself to her paws and made. Her way towards the tom, her white and brown dappled fir glistening in the sunlight. "Uh, hey." She meowed trying to sound casual. "You looked...well uh lonely." She said awkwardly.

Fourpaw watched the she-cat come up to him, remaining silent as she spoke. Did he come off as lonely? He didn't want to come off as lonely, those who were lonely were seemingly weak, he thought anyways. Was it unusual for a clan cat to be lonely? How would I know? he thought flatly before returning his attention back to the dappled she-cat.
"And?" He asked, inserting slight annoyance into his voice. He narrowed his eyes slightly and looked the she-cat up and down. He had seen her before, she was an apprentice that he hadn't seen very often, but he could sort of remember her name. Doepaw. That was it, right?

Doepaw's expression fell. Her eyes dulled with slight disappointment. Why is it hard to talk to anyone besides Fadedpaw and Sealkit? Why do I have to be so awkward. She thought annoyed at herself more than anyone. She silently dug her claws into the ground under her trying to calm down. "Well I dunno, I thought I would make you, not lonely. If you want to stay alone that's fine though." She said with an air of confidence.

Out of the corner of his eye, Nightkit noticed a white mass coming toward him. He raised his head to get a better look, and noticed that it was a cat slightly older than he was. His stubby little tail flicked slightly as he warily looked the other cat. She seemed harmless, though he didn't quite know what he was so jumpy and defensive about. This was his own clan, the other cats weren't going to hurt him.


"I'm Nightkit," the black kitten replied in a low tone, still standing stiffly as though it was the only position that made him look threatening in even the slightest bit.

Cloudpaw smiled a little, wondering why the other cat seemed so...stiff. And scared. She wasn't going to hurt him! "Well hi, Nightkit! It's nice to meet you," She purred in her friendliest tone. She didn't want to scare the ebony pelted kit, and backed up a little, glad she wasn't too much bigger than the other tom so that she wouldn't scare him. "Do you like to play?" She asked, guessing that would be a good way to break the ice between the two, perhaps if she could get him to play, she could get him to lighten up a bit. That, and she loved to play herself...just because she was an apprentice now didn't mean that she couldn't have fun with other cats! Cloudpaw waited for his reply, her black tipped tail twitching with delight as she did so. Everything in life seemed interesting to Cloudpaw...never mind what it was, life was interesting.

"What makes you think you can talk to me?" He asked sternly. She wasn't like the rest of the apprentices, he could see that since she was actually talking to him, something that not many other cats actually did and he didn't really know how to react to that.

Doepaw was about to pad away when the apprentice picked up conversation again. She smiled inwardly that he had actually responded and bent her head to take a few self conscious licks to her chest fur. "I don't know. I feel like I can talk to anyone, really. As long as you've got the guts to do it, then you can do whatever you what. At least, that's what I think." She mewed in reply.

He had relaxed a little, although he was still a little nervous. "You know I won't hurt you, right? I'm probably not that much older than you either...how old are you?" She asked, cocking her head to the side. Cloudpaw was not the best with being subtle. She generally said what she meant, although that didn't always cause her to have the best friends. Her tail twitched a little as she kept her blue hues fixed on the kit and then quickly remembering how uncomfortable Smokepaw had been when she had done that, averted her gaze from him, looking up at the sky and trying not to act as though she had just been staring at him.

Nightkit shrugged his little shoulders. "I don't really have a favorite," he told her, which was again the truth. Any game would work for him. He blinked as she began talking again. He knew that apprentices had to be six moons in order to even be apprenticed, and he still had a little over four moons to go till then. But he was, like most kits, excited for it. Though he'd never show it. "I'm almost two moons old," Nightkit answered. Just a little while until I'm an apprentice myself. But it's so far away.

Fourpaw's ears flicked up in slight surprise. She actually had a response to that... He thought, not really sure what exactly you should do when someone responds to something like that, so, instead, he stood up, his long tail sweeping the ground behind him.
"You're pretty tough." He observed, looking her up and down, his eyes still narrowed slightly.
