Goldenclaw scoffed when he was answered by silence, sitting back. "What? Too scared?" He mocked. He was well aware of his advantage with speed, but another thing he excelled at was infuriating and provoking his opponents. The quiet ones were more fun. "Too scared to fight? Don't worry: when I beat you, I'll tell the others you put up a worthy fight, even if just barely!"

His first mentor insulted him so many times and that golden-pelted tom he mentioned had bothered him so incessantly that Talonstone could care less about the insults. Power hid in action, not false threats. Goldenclaw must be a lizardbrain to doubt his abilities. Where had he been when Dawnstar assigned instructors? Even before that, when he transferred over from the thunder? The lizard shouldn't recall the latter, of course; that information should be lost to time. Talonstone fought the previous leader for part of his final assessment. His skills should never be taken lightly.

Stoic as ever, the frosty warrior looked on bluntly, silently taunting Goldenclaw by not rising to the bait. Lucky for him, they were the only ones at the training cliffs at this time. He could name a pawful of felines who would fight on his behalf, though they would most likely sit down and enjoy the show rather than assist if he didn't ask for it.

Duskfern had led Webpaw to the Training Cliffs. She had been a bit forgetful, and with all the drama, there was a lot going on. She arched her back before relaxing, and beginning to speak.
”You should be able to handle a half-turn belly rake.” she started, then paused for a moment and prepared to explain.
“And don’t worry. It sounds complicated, but it’s easy once you get the hang of it.” Duskfern mewed, encouraging her apprentice. “What I want you to do is turn on your back, use your back legs to slide under me, rake my belly with claws sheathed of course, then get back up.”
She waited patiently for any questions, ears twitching.

Goldenclaw narrowed his eyes when Talonstone kept silent. He was ignoring him, wasn’t he?! The nerve of the oversized white mouse! It was an honor to be in his presence, especially when talking to him. He stood up and walked over to Talonstone, his voice dropping to a dangerous, taunting tone. "What? Think you're better than me and not talk? The quiet ones are always like this... especially when they have mates. Honestly, you all lose that fire once you have some mushy love story..."

Then he must be quite lucky that he didn't have a mate, Talonstone mused sarcastically to himself. The frosty warrior hadn't purposely riled someone up in forever, and it was time that he let some of his tension go, even if his preferred method for infuriating someone seemed rather unorthodox. He'd killed how many felines again? On accident, sure, but wasn't accidental murder a sign of strength? And mental instability, but that ran in the family, he presumed... Talonstone only seriously harmed if threatened to the point of injury, or if someone activated his protective instincts. For now, Goldenclaw was still safe.

Webpaw nodded. "I'm ready." It didn't sound to complicated to her once her mentor explained it, and she was determined to prove her fighting abilities during her final assessment. "Tell me when to go."

Goldenclaw huffed, turning away from the icy warrior. "Fine. If you’re gonna be like that, no point in me wasting more time on you. I'll see if there someone more interesting to fight. Talking to you is as pointless as talking to a mound of dirt, which perfectly describes you. Now, keep using that silence, and it might impress someone with lower expectations than mine."

What a lizardbrain. Finally, finally, the warrior spoke. "Are you aware that you stand on shadow's land, Goldenclaw?" They were shadowdwellers. It was in their blood to fight swiftly, silently. "With your incessant whining, you remind me more of a loud-mouthed thundercat," Talonstone scoffed. "Perhaps you crossed the border and forgot to return home?"

He glared down at the smaller feline. "You are the coward. You are the one threatening to forfeit. Fight me, you pseudo-shadowdweller..." The warrior copied in a deep, mocking half-growl, "If you dare." His voice wasn't quiet, but it wasn't loud, either. Just the right volume to command attention; just enough derogative to provoke.

Oh, he hadn't talked like that since his later apprentice days. It felt... nice, actually, to pull out the verbal whip. Besides, Goldenclaw deserved it.

Goldenclaw grinned, his eyes gleaming in the shadows. "Ah, so the little mouse does have some bite. And if you're going to try to insult me, I've heard better insults from a rat. But, it'd be rude to compare them to you," he snarled, puffing his chest again. "Besides, are you really that upset I'd forfeit? You didn't seem to care to fight a few moments ago. Must feel nice trying to puff yourself like those bunnies on the moor, huh? No wonder you went there; they are your kind, after all!"

Suddenly, she felt a surge of excitement come over her. She remembered when she herself was an apprentice, training like her life depended on it. Back in those days, it was the best time of the day. Swinging back to the current time, Duskfern glanced at Webpaw with her yellow eye.
”If I told you when to go, would it still be a surprise?” she challenged playfully, twitching a whisker.
Of course she was to dodge. This way, Webpaw would adjust to it and discover the correct moments to attack. If she absolutely had to be still, she would. Her technique was all part of the training, however.
