Dawnpaw kept herself a tail length behind her mentor, pacing herself as she took in everytging her mentor said. She nodded in understanding. "Of course, Smallleopard."

Smallleopard flicked her tail against Dawnpaw's nose. "Sorry, was I not loud enough, or specific enough?" She asked, giving the air another sniff. "Smell the air. Tell me what it smells like." She spoke in a louder voice this time, making sure Dawnpaw heard what she said. She took a small step towards the border, careful not to cross it, and breathed in the scents of Riverclan. She never liked the smells of Riverclan; it was always, Always, oddly fishy. It wasn't the good fishy either. It was just a foul stench of fish, constantly. She gave a small shudder thanking Starclan she was in Shadowclan, and didn't have to deal with the reek of the other clan's scents. Though she may have been distracted by Riverclan's scent, she made sure to keep an eye out for any Riverclan patrols coming by. Encountering enemy patrols were never fun, even if you were on your side of the border. That actually reminded her of another lesson for Dawnpaw. "Also, if you ever encounter an enemy patrol, as long as they're on their side, Never, Ever attack. Even if they're being antagonizing, so long as they didn't steal our prey, or cross the border, leave them alone." This was a rule Small leopard never really had to worry about, as she didn't get annoyed to the point of fighting easily, but she didn't know her apprentice well yet. For all she knew, her apprentice may have as hot a temper as a fire.

Smallleopard gave out a small mrrow of laughter. "You don't have to be so formal with me." She stepped back to her apprentice's side, now feeling a bit more warmed up to her. "I'm your mentor, not your mother." She said before quickly adding, "Though, I do appreciate your respect." not wanting to seem rude. She gave a delighted glance at Dawnpaw. This was going very well. Dawnpaw seemed intelligent, respectful, and friendly. To put it simply, Smallleopard couldn't have asked for a better first apprentice. "That right. Good job." She gave a quick nod in approval, before further questioning Dawnpaw's deduction abilities. "So what clan is known for fish and marsh?" Smallleopard preferred allowing Dawnpaw to figure it out for herself, feeling she would understand better if she had discovered it for herself.

“Nothing.” He sighed he put all of that stuff he was thinking and put it in the back of his mind. He started smelling the air to make it look like he was looking for something when he smelled a rabbit he jumped in the air with a quick bite the rabbit was dead. He burried his catch and looked at Emberpool with a slight smile.
