WindClan: Life Before 2023's Fire

Finally.

The fish he'd been carrying started to give his mouth a rather metallic taste, and he dropped his catches on top of the prey pile. A breeze drafted over his pelt, and Kestrelwing shivered, but not from the cold. Why did cats insist on living so out in the open like this?? Didn't they feel unsafe? RiverClan may not have had any trees, but at least their camp was more guarded than... this.

Looking around the gray tabby turned to look at his patrol mates. "Right. Drop your prey off there and let's make sure Snakebite didn't get buried under a rabbit or something," he huffed, nodding to them before spinning on his heels. The clearing was full of familiar yet unrecognizable faces. Kestrelwing wasn't the type of cat to really interact with others at Gatherings, aside from one chaotic apprentice which he didn't happen to see at the moment.

However one cat did look familiar to him. "Twilightstar. I take it Snakeheart made it here correct?" he asked, trotting up to her with a slightly narrowed look. It really only stemmed from concern for the medicine cat - after all, he was still their only high rank. WindClan were their allies, but Kestrelwing didn't know them as well as Snakeheart did or even the others.

Following behind Kestrelwing, Bumblestep lugged the tasty trout into the Windclan camp. It was... much different than the home he was used to. The smells were... overpowering! It felt like his first gathering all over again. His curious gaze took in the exposed clearing, not used to the swift breeze constantly hitting his black pelt. It's always so interesting to see how other clans live! He thought to himself as he dropped the absolutely divine tasting trout in the freshkill pile. Fish and rabbit, I wonder what that flavor combination tastes like?

Trying to remain respectful, he dipped his head to the inquisitive gazes directed his way. "I'm sure Snakeheart is fine, he could fend off the mightiest lion with simply his sharp tongue." He chuckled.

The large she-cat bristled at the unfamiliar smells entering her camp. It was too...salty to be those evil rats from Shadowclan. What in Starclan's name was Riverclan doing here? They weren't enemies per say but... you couldn't really ever tell. "What, did Riverclan lose even more high rank cats?" She scoffed. Why did every clan feel the need to waltz right into their home?

Dustypaw slipped past other warriors to come up next to her mentor. She was a bit nervous, because she was the only apprentice, and except for Skyleaf, she didn't know anybody. She looked around, wondering who Redraven and Nighttail were.

The Windclan camp was so......different. That was the only way Splashleap could really describe it. The breeze was free to roam wherever it wanted, which was a nice concept at first but also pulled your fur every which way at all times, which was a bit annoying. Dropping her fish on the freshkill pile, where they looked quite out of place, fur clashing with shiny scales, she looked at the actual cats of the camp. They were all thinner, for chasing rabbits and providing less wind resistance she supposed, and they didn't exactly seem that friendly. Considering they were supposed to be allies, it wasn't the warmest welcome, and one she-cat in particular had her fur in a twist.

It was very tempting to scoff right back, but she didn't want to make any problems, even if the other cat had started the snipping. Instead, Splashleap tried to stay calm, mewing smoothly That's not why we're here. Aren't we allowed to visit our allies? We brought some fish to share! She didn't want to confirm or deny the high rank losses. That wasn't something she should be talking about, at least she didn't think so. @Rockfall

Rosepaw shook her head, "I know they're Shadowclan, but they're still cats, I doubt they would go after kits."

"But you're not allowed to fight until your 6 moons old," Rosepaw protested.
